Opis:
Prolonged running has been popularized globally in recent decades. This study was aimed to reveal information about foot morphology, shoe comfort and plantar loading among recreational heel-strike runners. Methods: Twenty-six runners participated in foot morphology, perceived scores and peak pressure tests after 10- and 20-km track running. The foot morphology was measured using a 3D foot scanner, perceived scores were recorded using a visual analogue scale and plantar pressure was measured via insole plantar pressure measurement system. The statistical significance level was set at 0.05. Results: The heel midsole materials properties were measured before and after 20 km. Significant changes were observed in ball width and girth, arch height and foot volume. The perceived scores showed significance in overall, forefoot and heel comfort, arch support and forefoot width. Peak pressure to the heel, medial mid-foot and metatarsal greatly increased. The first metatarsal showed consecutive increase from static to 10 km, and 20 km, while big-toe showed a decrease. Conclusions: The morphology variations and forefoot loading concentration may lead to discomfort and possibly imply dermatological problems and metatarsal bone stress, particularly on the first metatarsal. Combining changes of heel midsole property, knowledge of foot shape, shoe perception and plantar pressure is of great value for recreational long-distance running shoes design and materials selection.

Opis:
In this note we present a method for recognition of flatfoot abnormality with the help of some new shape-measure describing numerically this abnormality efficient enough. The proposed measure can be easily implemented and used for automatic flatfoot level diagnosis. Experiments carried out on a number of the plantograms, analysed using the computer programme prepared by first of the authors, proved the usefulness of this new approach.

Opis:
In this note we present a very simple database searching method for footprints of the desired flatfoot abnormality. The method is based on the new shape-measure introduced in [7]. The used measure describes flatfoot abnormalities very well, do not use reference points determined manually, so is it easily implemented for fully automatic footprints comparison task. Experiments carried out on a number of plantograms, with the help of the software prepared by the first author, approved good searching results of the described method.

Opis:
There is limited research available on the effect of asymmetric structure on the performance of the prosthesis. In this paper, 12 sets of prosthetic feet with asymmetric structures were developed using a planar polar coordinate system. The effect of asymmetry on the prosthesis performance was investigated. The prosthetic feet with asymmetric structures were modeled in a gradient manner within a polar coordinate system. A finite element (FE) model of the prosthetic walking process was formulated, and dynamic simulations were conducted to simulate the loading of the prosthesis during the support phase. Evaluation indices such as energy characteristics, contact pressure and roll-over shape were selected to investigate the effects of the asymmetric structure. The results indicate that θ1 and θ3 asymmetry significantly affects strain energy density. Moreover, incorporating heel asymmetry proves to be more advantageous in reducing contact pressure of the prosthesis during the middle stance moment. The optimal parameters for asymmetric prostheses are determined based on these findings.
