Opis:: According to he author of this article, Prof. Miao Huashou – from the Euro-Asian Social Development Research Institute and from the Development Research Center of the PRCh State Council, Russian diplomacy may boast of many great successes in 2006. Russia once again creates its image of a great empire by demonstrating its geopolitical and economic influences. The country underlines this way its position of an empire equal to the USA. It will continue to strengthen its influences in the Commonwealth of Independent States and undertake all the efforts aiming to development of strategic partnership with the EU on equal rules. It will also develop its contacts with the USA, as well as it will continue political dialogue and economic cooperation with other, great world powers.

Opis:: When analyzing events which unfolded in the Ukraine during the final months of 2004 and the involvement of Polish politicians and public opinion in the struggle for the preservation of the democratic character of presidential elections, a question arises regarding the connection of their actions with the political projects of Jerzy Giedroyć, the founder and sole editor of an influential magazine and a centre of political thought, which was Culture, published in Maisons-Laffitte, near Paris, in the years 1947–2000. Historians and political scientists rightly emphasize the fact that the „Eastern doctrine”, also known as the ULB doctrine (from the abbreviation of „Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus”), has been a constant element of Polish foreign policy since 1989. Generally speaking, Giedroyć was convinced that nationalist impulses would eventually destroy the Russian empire from within, and a sovereign Poland would gain three new neighbours in the East: Ukraine, Lithuania and Belarus. This process was expected to take place in the near future, as foreseen by Culture contributors who called on the émigrés from Eastern Europe to work together in laying solid foundations for the future partnership.

Opis:: The main objective of this article is to present potential research opportunities offered by the analysis of conditions, structure and instruments of the foreign policy of the country. The secondary objective is to present several potentially interesting research scenarios using the presented approach. For the purpose of these analyses, selected definitions of foreign policy functioning in the mainstream of Polish science (by leading researchers of international relations) and included in English-language publications of renowned foreign publishers will be presented. Then, an author's definition of foreign policy will be proposed based on these publications. In the following subsections there will be a presentation of foreign policy selected by the elements of foreign policy analysis in the form of its determinants, structure and instruments. In their research, the authors used secondary research material in the form of scientific articles in Polish and English. The method used in the research is the method of content analysis.
Celem wiodącym niniejszej pracy jest przybliżenie potencjalnych możliwości badawczych, jakie daje analiza uwarunkowań, struktury oraz instrumentów polityki zagranicznej państwa. Wtórnym celem jest zaś prezentacja kilku potencjalnie interesujących scenariuszy badawczych z wykorzystaniem przedstawionego ujęcia. Na potrzeby niniejszych rozważań przytoczone zostaną wybrane definicje polityki zagranicznej funkcjonujące w głównym nurcie polskiej nauki (autorstwa czołowych badaczy stosunków międzynarodowych) oraz zawarte w anglojęzycznych publikacjach renomowanych wydawnictw zagranicznych. Następnie w oparciu o nie zaproponowana zostanie autorska definicja polityki zagranicznej. W kolejnych podrozdziałach znajdzie się prezentacja wybranych przez elementów analizy polityki zagranicznej w postaci jej uwarunkowań, struktury oraz instrumentów. W swoich badaniach autorzy wykorzystali wtórny materiał badawczy w postaci opracowań naukowych w języku polskim i angielskim. Metodą wykorzystaną w badaniach jest metoda analizy treści.

Opis:: Leadership is commonly considered a key factor in crisis management. Extraordinary situations influence judgement and decision-making processes, so leaders bear the burden of directing attention, embracing uncertainty, and managing expectations. Sense-making is a necessary component of every leadership practice, shaping the way individuals enact change and adjust to new circumstances. The article touches upon two major issues: the role of sense-making in the time of war and new ideational sources of thinking about Western international politics that emerged as a consequence of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It examines influential narratives constructed within Western political leadership with relation to the war in Ukraine, revealing their role as cultural formulations contributing to structural changes at the international level.

Opis:: The article concerns the idea as well as the form of international cooperation between states and international organizations, illustrated by the example of the relationship between the European Union and the Pacific region. There is some useful literature on the subject but this needs be to completed. The influences of the world’s leaders collide on the Pacific Ocean, which gives this area primacy in geopolitical domination, slowly downgrading the Atlantic Community. The main purpose of the paper is, therefore, to research the possibilities and methods of legal and extrajudicial cooperation betweentwo continents which are very distant from each other. This work underlines the difference between official policy, presented by the regional intergovernmental organizations, and the individual policies of member states, who are not tied down by Brussels politics and may maintain their own foreign relations.

Opis:: The purpose of this paper is to characterize Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA) in post-Cold War Poland. The scope of this text is limited to FPA, understood as empirical research utilizing foreign policy theories by taking into account factors at the domestic level. “Polish FPA”is defined as research conducted by scholars employed in Poland. The text focuses on five aspects of Polish FPA: (1) historical context, (2) the teaching covering this subject, (3) the development of institutions doing research on foreign policy, (4) adaptation of ideas from global (mainly Western) science (in fact, westernization), and (5) the most important publications analyzing foreign policy and applying theoretical approaches. The paper is a response to the existing research gap as, so far, no work has been prepared strictly on the FPA’s development in post-Cold War Poland. The weaknesses of the existing literature on this subject are its (1) selectivity, (2) focus on mainstream international relations theories and (3) sketchiness.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja obszaru i granic subdyscypliny nauki o stosunkach narodowych – badania polityki zagranicznej. W artykule posługujemy się pojęciem „badanie polityki zagranicznej” zamiast powszechnie stosowanego „analiza polityki zagranicznej”, ponieważ implikuje to stosowanie naukowych procedur badawczych. W związku z tym w artykule rozpatrzono następujące kwestie: historiografię badania polityki zagranicznej, począwszy od zakończenia I wojny światowej do chwili obecnej; założenia ontologiczne, za pomocą których wyznaczono obszar badawczy; epistemologię badań polityki zagranicznej. W podsumowaniu odniesiono się do badania polityki zagranicznej jako dyscypliny nauk społecznych. Biorąc pod uwagę kryteria ontologiczne, stwierdzić wypada, że obszar badawczy polityki zagranicznej jest węższy od dziedziny stosunków międzynarodowych. Dostrzeżemy jednak ich wzajemne powiązanie, jeśli odwołamy się do modelu podmiot–struktura. Obydwa obszary analizujemy za pomocą tych samych teorii, ale w każdym przypadku inaczej formułowane są pytania badawcze.
The aim of the article is to identify the scope and boundaries of the ‘foreign policy research’ sub-discipline. The term used in this article is ‘foreign policy research’ instead of the commonly applied ‘foreign policy analysis’ (analiza polityki zagranicznej) because this implies the application of scientific research procedures. Therefore, the article focuses on the following issues: the historiography of foreign policy research from the end of World War I to the present time; the ontological premises that were used to delimit the scope of research; the epistemology of foreign policy research. The conclusion addresses the concept of ‘foreign policy research’ as a sub-discipline of international relations. Taking into account the ontological criteria, the scope of foreign policy research is narrower than that of international relations. They are, however, interrelated, if we refer to the subject–structure criterion. The two areas are studied using the same theories, but research questions are formulated differently in each case.

Opis:: This article explains the role of norms in IR with respect to particular focus on the bilateral security relationship between India and Japan since 2000. The article deals with the following questions, which are the normative driving factors between India and Japan to come together and cooperate? And how are those norms playing a major role in bringing them together? The article also analyzes the three liberal assumptions made by Andrew Moravcsik with Indo-Japan. And at the conclusion, it asserts that norms have been playing a major role between Indo-Japan relations since 2000.
