Opis:
Recycled carbon fibers from wind turbine blades offer a sustainable approach to enhancing concrete's mechanical properties. This study investigates the preliminary performance of concrete reinforced with fibers recovered via pyrolysis. Experimental results demonstrate improvements in flexural strength (up to 30%) and fracture mechanics parameters (e.g., KIc and CTODc). Planned research will focus on optimizing mix designs and exploring deformation criteria for quasi-brittle materials, paving the way for environmentally friendly construction solutions.

Opis:
Residual lifetimes and/or structural integrity assessments of critical components of mechanical plants and/or steel structures reąuire the knowledge of actual mechanical properties of the components' materials, because the material properties could be reduced throughout a service life by ageing. the use of standardised mechanical test techniques for determination of actual mechanical properties of the components under operation can cause its considerable damage due to size of necessary testing material and following repairs by welding. The need of a large amount of testing material can be eliminated by new advanced testing method based on „ non destructive " sampling of a small amount of testing material from the component surface. the mechanical characteristics are then determined by Small Punch) Tests (SPT). This paper describes the use of this advanced test technique for determination of tensile properties and fracture characteristics (FATT, J IC) of materials. The small punch test technique provides at present time a vehicle for determination of actual tensile and fracture properties necessary for optimisation of operating procedures and inspection intervals as well as for repairs strategies and residual lifetime assessment.

Opis:
the manufacture of mechanical structures where low weight is critical. However, when these alloys are subjected to elevated temperatures, their mechanical properties deteriorate significantly. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of temperature on the mechanical properties of aluminium alloy, EN AC-Al Si12CuNiMg. For this purpose, an experimental investigation was performed at ambient and elevated temperatures on aluminium alloy samples prepared by casting. Tensile and hardness tests were carried out to characterize the mechanical properties of this material. Additionally, an optical microscope was used to examine the microstructures of this alloy. Finally, a scanning electron microscope was used to analyze the fracture modes of this material. The results show that the mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, and Young's modulus of this alloy dramatically decrease when the temperature exceeds 250oC. The microstructural investigation reveals several factors that are detrimental to the mechanical properties of this alloy. This includes coarse-grained structures, micro-pores, and several intermetallic compounds. Furthermore, fractography reveals a minor cleavage-like pattern and micro-cracks on the fracture surface of all failed samples under various temperatures, indicating semi-brittle fracture mode.

Opis:
In this paper, a new method for assessing the accuracy of a constitutive model is proposed. The method uses perforation test done by drop weight tower. The assessment is carried out by comparison of striker velocity curve obtained using experiment and FEM simulation. In order to validate proposed method the various constitutive equations were applied i.e. Johnson-Cook, Zerilli-Armstrong and the extended Rusinek-Klepaczko to model mechanical behaviour of X4CrMnN16-12 austenitic steel. The steel was characterized at wide range of strain and strain rates using servo-hydraulic testing machine and split Hopkinson pressure bar. The relative error calculated as a difference between measured and constitutive model based stress-strain curve was applied as a reference data (classic approach). Subsequently, it was compared with relative error determined on the basis of experimental and FEM calculated striker velocity (new approach). A good correlation between classic and a new method was found. Moreover, a new method of error assessment enables to validate constitutive equation in a wide range of strain rates and temperatures on the basis of a single experiment.
W artykule zaprezentowano nową metodę oceny dokładności modelu konstytutywnego. Oparto ją na wynikach uzyskanych w próbie przebijania z użyciem młota opadowego. Wyznaczenie błędu zostało przeprowadzone na podstawie porównania prędkości penetratora zmierzonej w trakcie ekspery mentu i obliczonej na podstawie symulacji MES. W celu walidacji metody przeanalizowano wybrane równania konstytutywne: Johnsona-Cooka, Zerilli-Armstronga oraz rozszerzony model Rusinka-Klepaczko w odniesieniu do stali austenitycznej X4CrMnN 16-12. Badania właściwości mechanicznych stali zostały przeprowadzone w szerokim zakresie prędkości odkształcania z użyciem maszyny serwo-hydraulicznej oraz pręta Hopkinsona. Błąd względny wyznaczony jako różnica zmierzonej i obliczonej na podstawie równania konstytutywnego krzywej naprężenie-odkształcenie został ustalony jako wartość błędu referencyjnego (metoda klasyczna). Następnie porównano go z błędem względnym wyznaczonym na podstawie zmierzonego i obliczonego za pomocą MES chwilowego przebiegu prędkości penetratora (nowa metoda). Stwierdzono dobrą korelację pomiędzy klasyczną a nową metodą oceny dokładności modela W porównaniu do klastycznej metody możliwa jest walidacja zależności konstytutywnej w szerokim zakresie prędkości odkształcania oraz temperatury w trakcie jednego testu.

Opis:
Thermal fracture characteristics - the thermal energy release rate and thermal stress intensity factor of a semi-infinite crack at an interface between the two elastic isotropic materials, subjected to the temperature variations, are considered in this paper. Those characteristics are determined based on application of the linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) concept. Expressions for obtained theoretical solutions are compared to solutions from literature and they are found to be more concise. Influence of the materials change on these two thermal fracture properties were observed, as well as the influence of the thickness ratio of the two layers constituting the interface.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of mechanical tests carried out on two different commercially available cobalt alloys applied in dental prosthetics for the production of frame dentures. The test samples were obtained by the method of investment casting using as a charge pure primary materials and pure primary materials mixed with various additions of process scrap (25, 50, and 75%). The tests showed that the alloys could not reach the mechanical properties reported by the manufacturer in either case. In the case of the alloy without the addition of tantalum, the general conclusion was that both the plastic and strength properties decreased with increasing amounts of the introduced process scrap. The mechanical properties (mainly elongation) of the alloy containing Ta reached the highest values in the samples containing 75% of the process scrap. Examinations of fractures carried out by SEM have revealed their varied character – ductile or transcrystalline. All of the samples tested showed the presence of dendrites and solidification areas, with shrinkage porosity occurring in the internal sample zones.

Opis:
The as-cast microstructure of ductile cast iron (DI) was investigated using light microscopy (LM) and SEM techniques. Further the influence of hot plastic extrusion at 1000°C with plastic strain in the range of 20-60-80% on the transformation of the as-cast microstructure and on the mechanical properties was studied. Besides this, the microstructure of DI subjected to hot extrusion after the fracture of the corresponding samples induced by compression tests was thoroughly investigated. It was found that compression had a dramatic influence on a shear deformation and hence shear fracture of the compressed samples. It was shown that the shear fracture of the hot deformed ductile iron is accompanied by the occurrence of a narrow zone of severe plastic deformation. The fracture surfaces of the extruded samples subjected to the tensile tests and the compression tests were examined.

Opis:
In this paper, an attempt to estimate the stage of the fatigue process using the Barkhausen noise method is studied. First, microstructural and static tensile tests were carried out and, subsequently, fatigue tests up to failure were conducted. After determination of the material behaviour in the assumed static and dynamic conditions, the interrupted fatigue tests were performed. Each specimen was stressed up to a different number of cycles corresponding to 10%, 30%, 50%, 70% and 90% of fatigue lifetime for the loading conditions considered. In the next step of the experimental programme, the specimens were subjected to the Barkhausen magnetic noise measurements. Various magnetic parameters coming from the rms Barkhausen noise envelopes were determined. The linear relationship betweenthe full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of the Barkhausen noise envelope and the number of loading cycles to fracture was found. Specimens loaded up to a certain number of cycles were also subjected to a tensile test to assess an influence of fatigue on the fracture features.

Opis:
Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted with the Stillinger–Weber potential at room temperature to study the mechanical properties and find the mode-I critical stress intensity factor of buckled two-dimensional (2D) hexagonal silicon mono-sulfide (SiS) and germanium selenide (GeSe) sheets. Uniaxial tensile tests were simulated for pristine and pre-cracked sheets. 2D Young’s modulus of SiS and GeSe are estimated at 38.3 and 26.0 N/m, respectively. Their 2D fracture strength is about 3.1–3.5 N/m. By using the initial crack length with the corresponding fracture stress, their mode-I critical stress intensity factor is estimated in the range from 0.19 through 0.22 MPapm. These values differ within 5% from those obtained by the surface energy and are very small compared to the reported fracture toughness of single-crystalline monolayer graphene.

Opis:
In the paper are presented the results of strength analysis for the two types of the welded joints made according to conventional and laser technologies of high-strength steel S960QC. The hardness distributions, tensile properties and fracture toughness were determined for the weld material and heat affect zone material for both types of the welded joints. Tests results shown on advantage the laser welded joints in comparison to the convention ones. Tensile properties and fracture toughness in all areas of the laser joints have a higher level than in the conventional one. The heat affect zone of the conventional welded joints is a weakness area, where the tensile properties are lower in comparison to the base material. Verification of the tensile tests, which carried out by using the Aramis video system, confirmed this assumption. The highest level of strains was observed in HAZ material and the destruction process occurred also in HAZ of the conventional welded joint.
