Opis:
The aim of the work presented in the article was to clarify controversial comments about anti-corrosion and mechanical properties of graphene coatings, deposited on copper substrates. It was designed special experimental cycle comprising: preparation of graphene forms and copper, the observation of layers Cu / GO (rGO) after the thermal reduction processes and oxidative test in air at 150°C temperature and 350 h in time. The resulting coatings and graphene layers were subjected to tribological test for hardness. The observed differences in the continuity of the coverage copper surface by graphene forms, allowed to understand the macroscopic effect of increased hardness and wear resistance layers rGO/Cu.

Opis:
This article presents the research results on impact of the method of polycrystalline graphene layers separation from the growth substrate on the obtained carbon material quality. The studies were carried out on graphene sheets obtained by metallurgical method on a liquid metal substrate (HSMG® graphene). The graphene was separated using chemical etching method or the electrochemical delamination method, by separating by means of electrolysis. During electrolysis, hydrogen is emitted on a graphene-covered of cathode (metal growth substrate) as a result of the voltage applied. The graphene layer breaks away from metallic substrate by gas accumulation between them. The results from these separation processes were evaluated by means of different tools, such as SEM, TEM and AFM microscopy as well as Raman Spectroscopy. In summary, the majority of analyses indicate that the graphene obtained as a result of hydrogen delamination possesses higher purity, smaller size and number of defects, its surface is smooth and less developed after the transfer process to the target substrate.

Opis:
The article presents the state of knowledge within the scope of graphene production used in polymer matrices composites, as well as methods of obtaining graphene for these composites, including chemical method. The way of obtaining graphene in form of planes with dimensions of90 x 100 mm and the method of manufacturing multilayer composite with graphene were presented. Composites were produced from carbon fiber-epoxy resin prepregs in out of autoclave process. The adhesive film were used as an additional component which allows to transfer of graphene plane on carbon-epoxy resin prepregs and facilitate the consolidation process. In terms of the quality analysis of prepared composite samples results of ultrasonic tests of composites plate without the graphene and with graphene as an A-scan, B-scan, C-scan, S-scan were shown. The use of ultrasonic methods of registration: C-scan type amplitude of the echo and bottom echo signal amplitude, that allows to detect manufacturing defects caused by the mismatch of parallel edges of carbon prepregs, were engaged. The analysis of C-scan images allows to determine the accuracy of the angular orientation of the carbon layers.

Opis:
Combinations of biopolymers with nanostructured carbon materials have been the subject of interest of many scientists in recent years. Particularly significant are nanocomposites made of chitosan, which is a linear aminopolysaccharide obtained in the process of deacetylation of chitin, and graphene oxide (GO). These systems, due to the atypical properties of both components such as non-toxicity, biocompatibility with human tissues and organs as well as bacteriostaticity, are characterised by a wide range of biomedical applications. They may be used in emergency medicine as dressing materials which accelerate wound healing, as well as carriers of drugs/genes and biological macromolecules, for example proteins, peptides and nucleic acids. In addition, CS-GO systems can potentially be used in regenerative medicine as scaffolds for cell culture. For this reason, the current publication presents the possibilities of the application of chitosan–graphene oxide nanocomposites in medicine considering the characteristics of the system components.

Opis:
The paper presents results of studies of composite nickel/graphene coatings produced by electrodeposition method on a steel substrate. The method of producing composite coatings with nanocrystalline nickel matrix and dispersion phase in the form of graphene is presented. For comparative purposes, the study also includes nano-crystalline Ni coatings produced by electrochemical reduction without built-in graphene flakes. Graphene was characterized by Raman spectroscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopes. Results of studies on the structure and morphology of Ni and Ni/graphene layers produced in a bath containing different amounts of graphene are presented. Material of the coatings was characterized by SEM, light microscopy, X-ray diffraction. The microhardness of the coatings was examined by Knoop measurements. The adhesion of the coatings with the substrate was tested using a scratchtester. The influence of graphene on the structure and properties of composite coatings deposited from a bath with different graphene contents was determined.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of investigations on the resistive structure with a graphene oxide (GO) sensing layer. The effects of dangerous gases (hydrogen and nitrogen dioxide) on the structure were studied; the resistance changes were examined during the flow of the selected gas in the atmosphere of synthetic air. Measurements were performed with a special emphasis on the detection of low concentrations of the analyzed gases. The reactions of the sensing structure to the effect of nitrogen and synthetic air at different humidity were also tested. Much attention was also paid to the fast response of the sensor to the changes in the gas atmosphere. The thin palladium layer (~2 nm) has been applied in order to improve the sensing properties of the structure. The investigations were performed in the temperature range from RT to 120°C and the analyzed gases in synthetic air were batched alternately with pure synthetic air.

Opis:
The first part of the paper concerns synthesis and characterization of two types of nanomaterials: graphene oxide (GO) prepared by modified Marcano method and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) synthesized using green reductant, L-ascorbic acid. Their structural properties were investigated by attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Results confirmed that L-ascorbic acid is an effective reducing agent. Intensity of the oxygen-groups decreased dramatically what resulted in reduction of the GO interlayer spacing from 0.8 nm to 0.4 nm. The second part of the research was concentrated on the properties of chitosan nanocomposites modified with GO and rGO. Films were prepared by mixing of the chitosan solution with the nanoparticles dispersion. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to investigate the microstructure of the composites surface. In addition, wettability and pore size of the freeze-dried scaffolds were evaluated. Results of the mechanical tests (increase in Young’s modulus) and structural characterization confirmed that chitosan solution and GO dispersion can be mixed homogeneously. Reduction of GO during composite synthesis resulted in better dispersion of the nanosheets what increased surface roughness, wettability and stability in distilled water, PBS and Ringer’s solution compared to composite with GO. After detailed biological examination, rGO-modified nanocomposites can be potentially applied in tissue engineering.

Opis:
Graphene oxide (GO) prepared from graphite powder using a modified Hummers method and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) obtained from GO using different reductants, i.e. sodium borohydride, hydrazine, formaldehyde, sodium hydroxide and L-ascorbic acid, were investigated using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman, infrared and electron spectroscopic methods. The GO and rGOs stacking nanostructure (flake) size (height x diameter), interlayer distance, average number of layers, distance between defects, elementary composition, content of oxygen groups, C sp3 and vacancy defects were determined. Different reductants applied to GO led to modification of carbon to oxygen ratio, carbon lattice (vacancy) and C sp3 defects with various in-depth distribution of C sp3 due to oxygen group reduction proceeding as competing processes at different rates between interstitial layers and in planes. The reduction using sodium borohydride and hydrazine in contrary to other reductants results in a larger content of vacancy defects than in GO. The thinnest flakes rGO obtained using sodium borohydride reductant exhibits the largest content of vacancy, C sp3 defects and hydroxyl group accompanied by the smallest content of epoxy, carboxyl and carbonyl groups due to a mechanism of carbonyl and carboxyl group reduction to hydroxyl groups. This rGO similar diameter to GO seems to result from a predominant reduction rate between the interstitial layers. The thicker flakes of a smaller diameter than in GO obtained in rGOs prepared using remaining reductants result from a higher rate of reduction of in plane defects.
