Opis:
Rainwater harvesting systems (RWHs) are identified as an alternative technology that is important for sustainable stormwater management through reuse, conservation, and reduce runoff. In recent years there has been a growth of studies on the effectiveness of RWHs. However, analyses of the system performance based on the site specific conditions are still limited. The aim of the study was to assess of the potential for rainwater reuse (householder’s interest) and reduction of roof runoff by RWHs (an environment’s perspective) assumed in a singlefamily building. Two performance indicators have been calculated i.e. water saving potential (WSE) and overall efficiency (OE). Four realistic scenarios (S1-S4) and three main non-potable water requirements were defined. The results of the study showed that WSE and OE varied depending on the type and size of the tank, the economic purpose, and the amount and irregularity of precipitation. The potential for the use of water stored in above-ground tanks for plant watering ranged from 62 to 82%. Underground reservoirs, with a larger capacity, were able to cover water requirements for this purpose up to 100%. However, the OE of tanks receiving runoff from the entire roof area were at low levels. Values of OE ranged from 3.7 to 6.8%, from 5.5 to 9.2%, and from 42.9 to 71.0%, for above-ground (S1 and S2) and underground (S3) and (S4) tanks, respectively. The results of the study may be useful for planning domestic rainwater harvesting systems and for comparison with practices in other countries.

Opis:
Purpose of the work: Mountainous areas, with altitude over 700 m, intense relief and slopes between 16–20%, cover 43% of Greece and they are usually characterized by low population density and long-term unemployment. The Greeks have a dependent connection among environment, economy and society as the history illustrates. Many of Greece’s historic, cultural landscapes and native ecosystems have been degraded or isolated over the years. There is scientific evidence that Greece’s natural/semi-natural forested areas cannot be sustained without watersheds, ridges and other natural corridors that connect its native landscapes and ecosystems. Logging systems are really ancient by using often only mules or horses. The aim of the work is to estimate how harvesting systems should be technologically upgraded improving forest work and social wellness maintaining at the same time ecological sustainability. Approach: The study area is held at Samarina region, a mountainous area of Northern Pindos in Greece. Social data were collected with questionnaires and local visits for better understanding of human resources for forest authorities and other administrative information’s. DTM, Forest Inventory data and other GIS data have been derived by paper maps and previous studies. A registration of road-net and human resources within the protected area of Valia Kyrna and their contribution as factors for the sustainable development was used. The development of a Spatial Decision Support System that can concern all the conditions that are need in order to make an estimation of the optimal way of harvest a stand is really a challenge. Expected results: A GIS program is a powerful decision support tool in order to give the opportunity to the offices of Forestry to choose the optimal way of harvesting a stand and also to realize visually the effect’s of such a kind of work; that is going to be held to the inhabitants and to the tourists of the area. Conclusion: The potential of social and ecological factors is examined as it concerns the promotion of the protected area within sustainable rural development. Advantages of registration in the form of a spatial tool, especially when many types of information participate, are presented.

Opis:
Willow biomass can be collected in the form of entire or chipped shoots. The method depends on the harvest cycle of the plants, availability of necessary machines and the expected use of harvested raw material. Methods of harvesting influence on biomass quality during its acquisition and further in the storage period. Therefore, the aim of the research was to characterize the harvest of willow plantation with the use of a biobaler WB 55 and to assess the quality of the obtained biomass during the 9-month period of its storage. Willow was harvested with biobaler WB 55 in January 2010 on a commercial plantation. The 3.5 ha plantation was situated in the north-east of Poland, in the village of Dorotowo (53°42′9.88″ N 20°25′11.02″ E). An analysis of the biomass quality in terms of its thermophysical and chemical properties was carried out at the laboratory of the Department of Plant Breeding and Seed Production of the UWM in Olsztyn. Willow harvesting with a unit consisting of a 129 kW tractor and biobaler WB 55 was conducted efficiently. The average harvesting efficiency was about 18 bales per hour of the unit operation (8.75 Mg h-1 FM). The fresh matter density in the bales averaged 358.10 kg m-3 FM, whereas in dry matter it was 166.16 kg m-3 DM. With extended duration of storage, the quality of willow biomass as an energy raw material improved. The biomass in the bales steadily lost its moisture, from 53.06% in January to 17.48% in September. On the other hand, the lower heating value increased during that same period from 7.75 MJ kg-1 to 15.65 MJ kg-1. It has been found based on the observations made during the study period that the advantages of a biobaler WB 55 are the easy and efficient harvesting of plants on a plantation and bales can be used for energy production as needed.

Opis:
This article presents the optimisation process of some key parameters such as the size of the macro-fibre composite (MFC) and the optimal impedance load matching the piezoelectric harvester located in the prototype of the micro-power generator to enhance the vibration-based energy harvesting effect. For this, the distributed parameter model of this structure, including MFCs of the 8514 P2, 5628 P2 and 8528 P2 types, with a homogenous material in the piezoelectric fibre layer was determined. The numerical analysis of the FEM model of the flexure strip with piezo-composite indicated that the highest amplitude of voltage >7 V is generated by the proposed device with the piezo of the 8528 P2 type, while the lowest amplitude (close to 1.1 V) was noted for the piezo of the 8514 P2 type. Experiments were carried out on the laboratory stand to verify the obtained results. In addition, it was shown that the power output of the real EH system with the piezo of the MFC 8528 type, connecting with the matched resistive load (R = 120 kΩ), led to a significant increase in the value of the generating voltage up to 500 mW versus EH system with the piezo of 8514 P2 and 5628 P2 types. Finally, the effectiveness of this system was found to be close to 33% for the EH system with the piezo of the 8528 P2 type.

Opis:
W pracy przedstawiono model relacyjny, opracowany metodą analizy systemowej procesu zbioru i transportu jabłek w gospodarstwie sadowniczym.
The paper presents the relation model developed using the method involving system analysis of apple harvesting and transporting process in a fruit farm. As a result of isomorphic mapping, relation model is constituted by a pair consisting of 5 elements and a set of 10 relations forming model structure reflecting the most important processes affecting apple harvesting and transporting time. The formulated relation model provides the basis for operational model development and logical verification.

Opis:
Plate-like structures with attached piezo-patch elements are widely used in marine, aerospace and civil infrastructure applications to power small devices with low power demand or used for monitoring of vibration structures. In order to assess the feasibility of an energy harvesting system to generate power output from a harvester, an accurate electromechanical model of the piezo-patch harvester attached to a 2D structure in modal coordinates is required. Taking into account this fact, this study is focused on the analysis of the piezoharvester orientations on the SFSF (Simply Supported-Free-Simply Supported-Free) plate undergoing forced dynamic excitation. The results obtained from the numerical analysis of a smart structure led to determining quasi-optimal piezo-harvester location on the structure, and next, to determining a multi-mode representation of the equivalent circuit model. The experimental set-up carried out on the lab stand properly verified the parameters of the ECM model. Finally, the proposed approach can be used for the structural health monitoring of vibration of some 2D mechanical structures like the front wall of a dishwasher.

Opis:
The paper describes modelling and testing of the piezoelectric beam as energy harvesting system. The cantilever beam with two piezo-elements glued onto its surface is considered in the paper. As result of carried out modal analysis of the beam the natural frequencies and modes shapes are determined. The obtained results in the way mentioned above allow to estimate such location of the piezoactuator on the beam where the piezo generates maximal values of modal control forces. Experimental investigations carried out in the laboratory allow to verify results of natural frequencies obtained during simulation and also testing of the beam in order to obtain voltage from vibration with help of the piezo-harvester. The obtained values of voltage stored on the capacitor 0 shown that the best results are achieved for the beam excited to vibration with third natural frequency, but the worst results for the beam oscillating with the first natural frequency.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to determine the degree of damage of trees in a stand in the Kraft classes and diameters at breast height of trees in the damaged and undamaged stands depending on the harvesting system applied by Forest Services Companies. Field studies were carried out in the Polish lowlands in pine stands in the age classes II a, III a and IV a in the fresh forest habitat (Bśw) and mixed fresh forest habitat (BMśw). The prevailing species is pine (minimum 80%), and the assortment and tree−length methods are used for timber harvest. The thinning operations cause injuries to trees in the remaining stands and the scale of these injuries depends mainly on labour organisation.
