A study was conducted to evaluate the 24 roosters according to semen index (SI) which included several semen traits and because this method is time consuming and technically difficult, other methods for evaluation of roosters depend on individual semen traits, were applied as practical methods. Spearman's coefficients of rank correlations were estimated between BLUP of semen index and BLUP of several semen traits to investigate the possibility of using one semen trait instead of semen index in evaluation of roosters. BLUP values of mass motility had the highest coefficient of rank correlation (0.71) with the BLUP values of SI. The results of this study could consider good evidence of using mass motility for evaluated roosters for fertility and hatchability.

Opis:: Autecological features i.e. fecundity, mean weight of eggs and hatchability were investigated during 100 days of culturing individual pairs of 6- and 7-instar groups within T. castaneum cI and T. confusum bIV strains. The groups in both species differ one from another by shorter (6-instar) and longer (7-instar) developments. The 6-instar groups showed higher fecundity, similar mean egg weight and similar hatchability than 7-instar groups. Differences between species were higher than those between 6- and 7-instar groups. T. castaneum cI strain showed higher fecundity, lower individual egg weight and higher hatchability than T. confusum bIV strain.

The experiments were carried out on two species: Tribolium castaneum cI Hbst. and T. confusum blV Duval. Within these two species two groups of 6- and 7-instar group were discerned. The developmental time and survival of T. confusum population is depressed stronger than those of T. castaneum. There are no differences between 6- and 7-instar groups in response to various concentration of TCP. The results obtained for fecundity showed that this trait is more restricted in T. castaneum than in T. confusum. Hatchability in all experiments was the same.

Opis:: Celem pracy była analiza przebiegu wychowu stada rodzicielskiego Ross 308 w kontekście uzyskiwanych wyników wylęgowości. Badania wykonano w warunkach produkcyjnych. Przez cały okres wychowu i produkcji stada przy pomocy systemu ważenia automatycznego JOTAFAN kontrolowano masę ciała ptaków. Wskaźniki reprodukcyjne określano na podstawie wyników zapłodnienia jaj i ich wylęgowości. Stwierdzono, że masa ciała podczas wychowu i produkcji była zgodna ze standardami dla tego zestawu hodowlanego. Ponadto wysokie wartości uzyskanych wskaźników reprodukcyjnych (zapłodnienie jaj i wylęgowość z jaj zapłodnionych powyżej 90% w okresie pomiędzy 28 a 56 tygodniem życia stada) świadczy o właściwych warunkach środowiskowych i żywieniowych.
The aim of study was to analyse the rearing of the Ross 308 parental stock in the context of hatching results. The study was carried out in production conditions. The body weight of birds was monitored using the JOTAFAN automatic weighing system during whole rearing and production period. Reproductive indicators were determined based on the results of eggs fertilization and hatchability. There was found that the body weight during rearing and production was in line with the standards for this breed. Moreover obtained reproductive indicators (fertilization of eggs and hatchability of fertilized eggs were higher than 90% between 28 and 56 week of parental stock life) indicate that environmental and nutritional conditions were proper.

Opis:: Badania prowadzono w stadzie reprodukcyjnym 5-letnich nandu (Rhea americana). Inkubacji poddano 62 jaja pochodzące z około szczytowego okresu nieśności ptaków. W czasie klucia odnotowywano przypadki udzielania pisklętom pomocy. Na podstawie przeprowadzonej analizy odpadu powylęgowego wyodrębniono trzy grupy: I skorupy jaj, z których pisklęta wykluły się samodzielnie, II – skorupy, z których pisklęta wykluły się z pomocą obsługi, III – w której zarodki zamarły podczas embriogenezy. Stwierdzono, że pisklęta nandu wymagały często pomocy podczas klucia, a ich względna masa (niespełna 60%) w dniu wyklucia kształtowała się na niskim poziomie. Analiza ultrastruktury skorupy wykazała, że największe brodawki wystąpiły w skorupach, po pisklętach wyklutych samodzielnie. Istotnie mniejsze stwierdzono w grupach, w których zarodki zamarły lub pisklęta w czasie klucia potrzebowały pomocy. Stwierdzono ponadto, że największą liczbą brodawek na jednostce powierzchni cechowały się skorupy po pisklętach wyklutych bez pomocy. Można zatem sądzić, że budowa tej warstwy, a szczególnie gęstość brodawek, ma związek z wynikami wylęgów.
Examinations were carried out in a breeding flock of 5-year-old rheas (Rhea americana). Atotal of 62 eggs, coming from around peak laying period, were subject to incubation. During hatching, there were instances of giving assistance to chicks. Based on the performed analysis of post-hatching refuse, three groups were separated: I – egg shells of chicks hatched unassisted, II – egg shells of chicks hatched with personnel’s assistance, III – embryos died during embryogenesis. The results were subject to one-way analysis of variance using applying a Duncan’s test. It was found that rhea chicks frequently required assistance during hatching, and their relative weight (nearly 60%) on the day of hatch reached a low level. The analysis of egg shell ultrastructure showed that largest mammillae occurred in the egg shells after chicks hatched without assistance. On the other hand, significantly smaller mammillae were observed in the egg shell groups where embryos died during embryogenesis or chicks needed assistance during hatch. Moreover, it was found that the largest number of mammillae per area unit is characteristic of the egg shells after chicks hatched without assistance. Therefore, one may think that the structure of this layer, in particular the density of mammillae, is related to hatching performance results.
