- Cheating job applicants : ethical dilemmas of HR
- Autorzy:
- Bugdol, Marek
- Opis:
- Purpose: The purpose of this article is to identify manifestations of cheating by HR departments/employees during the hiring process. Design/methodology/approach: The main research method used by the author was a literature review. The empirical study used a qualitative approach. Interviews were conducted in 2025. They were young people (aged 19-35), students of studies for working people who had already completed training in HR (methods, processes, functions). They were management students, participants in training in organizational behaviour. A total of 83 employees participated in the study on a voluntary basis. Findings: During the interview, false information is given about the salary, and the scope of responsibilities. In a few cases, unethical methods are used during the selection process. These mainly consist of humiliating candidates. There are a few reasons for cheating, but the survey respondents indicated the need to represent the interests of management, lack of attention to the needs and expectations of employees. Research limitations/implications: In the case of interviews, we may have to deal with different experiences and emotions of employees. We interpret opinions, but not always facts. There are also limitations related to the socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents. Practical implications: The content of the article allows for the improvement of the work of HR departments, especially in the hiring process. Originality/value: While there are articles showing the white lies formulated by job applicants, there is a dearth of publications showing the problem of cheating by HR departments/employees.
