Opis:: The article attempts to grasp the essence of transcultural theory, locate its roots and situate it within the framework of previous cultural research. This enables the influence of this theory on the projected future significance of humanistic research. The author makes use of the theoretical approaches of Arianna Dagnino and Mikhail Epstein. Although looking at this theory fromdifferent angles, in both cases the transcultural perspective translates into a unique perception of humanities (“transcultural” or “transformative” humanities), as a field of key importance for the future of science.

Negocjowanie pola i budowanie autonomii w dobie kryzysu.
The article discusses selected diagnoses on the crisis in the humanities. It concentrates on systemic issues related to the critical assessment of the relevance of the humanities to market realities as well as critical approaches to the humanities within the field itself. The freqenutly addressed problems faced by the members of academia are substantiated by sociological research and essayistic autoethnography. Problems of autonomy and engagement of the humanities are discussed in the context of Justyna Tabaszewska’s concept of subservient humanities presented in the work Humanistyka służebna. Negocjowanie pola i budowanie autonomii w dobie kryzysu [Subservient humanities. Mediating the field and building autonomy in times of crisis].

Opis:: The thesis of this paper is that Polish humanities exists and is doing well in institutional sense but at the same time it has no social impact. That being so, on one hand we have dozens if not hundreds of units in which thousands of academics work. On the other hand we observe a limited external influence of these institutions and their employees. This impressive institutional and at the same time personal development seems to ignore external goals and functions or undervalue them in comparison to the institutions’ own development and functioning. There are many reasons for this, and not only academic institutions themselves should be blamed for it. It can be claimed that the modern world seems to see humanities as something inimportant, and it happens due to various conditions. One can see a parallel between the satae of the humanities and the state of the culture in general with the whole socio-cultural context, including the humanities. The article consists of five parts. The first one is about the reasons of the humanities institutional development. In the second part, I refer to the character of social sciences and humanities. In the third part, I mention the motivation to practice them. The fourth part deals with external conditions of practicing social sciences and humanities, and the fifth with their important tasks.

Tytuł:: Engaged humanities : new perspectives of experience-oriented humanities

Opis:: The term engagement was used in critical cultural studies as a term that name an attitude of scholars, and a feature of cultural and scientific texts, that are based on the experience of an individual or a group of people. In the recent two decades, many of Polish academic narrations on the field of cultural production focused on the issue of engagement. In the article, a phenomenon of engagement in the context of disability studies is considered. The main objective of the article is the analysis of disability studies as a new model of experience-oriented discipline. What is particularly interesting is a possibility to relabel experiences of the disabled as a significant report on the status of modern narrations, which should include different minority bodies. The main aim of disability studies is to present a project of engaged attitudes towards social sustainability that is not based on exclusions of any social groups of people. Studies on disability are also introduced as an experience-oriented discipline in the field of engaged humanities. This article aims at presenting critical narrations on the issue of engagement in other to connect disability studies to the engaged humanities. Promoting engagement in many areas of culture and social life seems to be a way of introducing more open politics towards difference, and social sphere of life that is equally accessible for everyone.

Opis:: The paper discusses the activities involved in the process of creating a digital thematic repository focusing on historical cartographic and textual sources. On the basis of the thematic repository created as part of the project “Shaping the borders of Independent Poland in the light of cartographic documents”, the author presents proposals for solutions aimed at effective management of the various materials, as well as allowing users easy access to specific information. It provides an overview of the issues identified in the context of identifying, selecting, digitising and sharing digital copies of sources of relevance to humanities and social sciences research. With regard to the digitisation of cartographic sources, the article examines the challenges of adapting the technology to meet the diverse needs of information retrieval. In addition, it addresses issues related to the development of metadata and the integration of different types of sources. The article also addresses issues related to maintaining and updating the digital repository, with a particular focus on ensuring the sustainability of the project. The conclusions of the completed project allow us to identify best practices in the process of creating and managing a digital thematic repository, which can be a valuable tool for researchers, students, and cultural heritage institutions.
