Opis:: Hungarians are the largest autochthonous national minority of the Slovak republic. Their number and proportion is steadily decreasing. The reduction of Hungarian population is caused by interactions between the following four factors: anonyme nationality, hidden migration, natural decline and as- similation. The strongest factor is the assimilation by the author understood as a change of national identity.

Opis:: The multi-ethnic regions of the Habsburg Monarchy became increasingly perceived as places of instability and insecurity after the rise of competing national movements in the mid-nineteenth century. The antagonism between local national elites culminated after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, as all pursued a course aimed at securing a favourable position. As actors of security, the local elites often and typically declared themselves and their respective nations to be existentially threatened and therefore with a legitimate claim to survive the challenges brought on by modern times. To investigate the security dilemmas of the local elites in two different regions of Austria-Hungary – namely in three city municipalities in Bács-Bodrog county in Southern Hungary; and in Vas, Sopron and Moson counties in western Hungary – this study combines methods of historical discourse analysis with approaches taken from security and nationalism studies as well as regional and local history.

Biblioteka Polska (1941-1944) : the main publishing house of the Polish wartime exile community in Hungary

Opis:: Biblioteka Polska (Budapest June 1941-March 1944) was created and managed by Maria Jankowska (real name: Wanda Pełczyńska) to reform all previous chaotic publishing activity of the Polish exiles. Biblioteka was the only publisher having its precise programme (preferences for literary books) and caring about the level of publications. Under the imprint of Biblioteka Polska in desktop publishing appeared 52 books and brochures (25% of total Polish books production in wartime Hungary), 2 yearbooks-almanacks and one magazine for children. The invasion of German troops on Hungary on 19th March 1944 put an end to the publishing house.

Opis:: This is a survey of ,,Nasza Świetlica. Materiały Obozowe (Our Clubroom: Refugee Camp Materials)”, a ditto weekly published in Budapest in 1941–1943. Designated as the cultural and educational press organ of the Citizens’ Committee for the Care of Polish Refugees in Hungary, it featured a broad range of subjects from popular science to humanities, the refugees’ literary productions, and a chronicle of cultural events in the Polish civilian and military camps. Special attention was paid to providing the readers with all-round knowledge about Hungary and the Hungarian nation.

Opis:: At the turn of century the paradigm of economic development has been changing. Despite the economic instability in the world the process of globalization has not been stopped. The importance of growth factors included in the area of R&D (research and development) increased. These two aspects are also important in the analysis of the economic transition in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Factors from R&D area are now perceived as the key conditions for creating knowledge -based economy and for sustainable development. There should also be noted low potential of CEE countries to generate investments in modern sectors of economy based on R&D. In this context, there is increasing importance of foreign direct investment (FDI) as an indirect instrument for strengthening the modernization process of economic structures and providing the basis for sustainable development. In this paper the subject of analysis is the influx of FDI in Hungary and their impact on the economy of the country in the period 1989–2012. The paper also attempts to answer the question on relations between the level and characteristics of the inflow of FDI and structural changes and economic development in Hungary.
