The following article constitutes an attempt to solve the problem of the interpretation of results based on a comparison of measured values to permissible values. When exceeded limits are observed, the recipients of acoustic analyses (mainly non-specialists) are frequently uncertain as to how to interpret the results. At the moment, there is no unambiguous way of defining acceptable, alarming or unacceptable values of noise but an original indicator methodology, which allows a clear and easy interpretation of the results obtained, has been proposed. The suggested noise load factor (NLF), based on measurements of physical quantities, enables conducting a broader assessment of the nuisance of noise originating from railway vehicles.

Wywiad dotyczy początków ewaluacji „wpływu społecznego”1 w Wielkiej Brytanii, jej konsekwencji dla kultury akademickiej, a także możliwości wprowadzenia podobnego systemu oceny w Polsce. David Sweeney przekonuje, że o ile Impact Agenda stanowi odpowiedź na wiele wyzwań brytyjskiej nauki, o tyle nie można przenieść tego systemu bezpośrednio na inny grunt. System ewaluacji w każdym kraju powinien być dostosowany do lokalnej kultury akademickiej i celów stawianych przed naukowcami.
The interview explores the challenges related to the introduction of the Impact Agenda, its consequences for academic culture as well as the possibility of putting in place a similar evaluation framework in Poland. David Sweeney argues that while the Impact Agenda addresses some issues of British science, it cannot be simply transposed to other academic systems. Instead, policy makers should factor in the local academic culture and the particular aims set before science in their context.

The identified features of the shells/skins which have developed around the four big Morasko meteorites found in 2006 year, indicate the existence of shock pressure and high temperature in the immediate vicinity of the falling lumps. This was also the moment when zeroing of the luminescence occurred. The results obtained for the dating of the meteorite shells/skins using the TL technique prove the age of luminescence zeroing about 5000 to 6000 years ago. TL dating of meteorite shells/skins was preceded by OSL measurements in the mineral sediments situated in the beds of Morasko hollows A and B, directly below the organic filling sediment. The Morasko crater A mineral bottom is constituted by deformed sediments from the Neogene “Poznań series”. In the crater B mineral bottom the glacial sediments exists – not younger than the “Poznań phase” of last Scandinavian glaciation. The theoretical youngest age all of these sediments is 17000-18000 years BP. The OSL results obtained into 101 measured portions of mineral material from the hollows, prove its rejuvenation. There are many indices <5000 years (13%) and in between 5000-10000 years (30%), totally 43%. Data from TL and OSL measurements for the area of the Morasko Meteorite Reserve are an indicator of the luminescence zeroing (both the shells/skins of meteorites and depressions bottom sediments), occurring around 5000 years ago. In Morasko area a local grouped fall of extraterrestrial material as well as craters creation took place. The Estonian Kaali main crater and surrounding small craters were examined too. The TL data from the material of main crater rim, the material from inside slope of crater 1 and the powered Silurian dolomites at the bottom of crater 4, gave a similar results – 5000-6000 years BP. Also older data (up to 11500 years BP) were obtained in the mixture of Quaternary and Silurian dolomite detritus of the inside slope crater 1 and at the rim top of crater 2/8. The OSL data have given the similar results. The comparative study to the Ilumetsa and Tsõõrikmäe relatively small craters were performed. The Devonian sandstones exist there beneath the local features and sediments of Quaternary age. The measurement results of OSL technique do not evidence so clear data as in Kaali site. Only few indicators were young (<4500 year BP). Most of data seems to be under influence of not complete bleaching of old rocks luminescence signal. The attempt of the TL and OSL measurements to impact time establish lead to the following conclusion: a) explosive – “high energetic” events to be effective of full zeroing luminescence and impact time establish, b) the striking – “low energetic” events are less effective in bleaching luminescence and impact time establish.

Opis:
A simple engineering method to determine dynamic mechanical parameters of a rigid-plastic material with linear strain hardening is presented in this paper. For this purpose, Taylor's impact test, i.e., perpendicular impact of a long rod on a flat rigid target has been used. The rod is made of the tested material. The transcendental equations which explicitly determinate the dynamic yield stress and the plastic strain of the rod have been derived. The general trend of the obtained results is observation of the appearance of higher strengths at higher impact velocities, which is in agreement with expectations. The applied in literature approximation of dynamic properties of metals with strain hardening by means of a perfectly plastic material is far-reaching simplification disagreeing with reality.
W pracy przedstawiono prostą inżynierską metodę określania dynamicznych parametrów mechanicznych sztywno-plastycznych materiałów z liniowym wzmocnieniem. Zastosowano do tego celu uderzeniowy test Taylora, tj. prostopadłe uderzenie pręta, wykonanego z testowanego materiału, w nieodkształcalną płytę. Wyprowadzono przestępne równania, z których można określić explicite dynamiczną granicę plastyczności Yw i odkształcenie plastyczne [epsilon]p materiału pręta. Uzyskano wzrost parametru Yw, wraz ze wzrostem prędkości uderzenia pręta, co jest zgodne z oczekiwaniem. Stosowana w literaturze aproksymacja dynamicznych właściwości metali modelem idealnie-plastycznym jest daleko idącym uproszczeniem, niezgodnym z rzeczywistością.

Opis:
This paper will present selected problems connected with modelling of multi-layer pavements. Multi-layer pavement models, which utilize solutions such as the one of Boussinesq, Burmister, Kogan, Odemark and others, contain many simplifications, which bas a significant influence on the estimated real value of stress, strain, deflection as well as on the coefficient of pavement layers interaction. In the article based on the experiments carried out, we want to present our own layered-pavement models and solutions to them, which can be used mainly in the diagnostics of bearing capacity. The estimation of bearing capacity is conducted on the basis of full time data obtained with the FWD device. Moreover, the conclusions implicated by the above mentioned analysis are of big importance in design and operation process of road and airfield pavements. They pertain not only to the influence of modulus and thickness of particular layers but also to the way of pavement layers interaction, Poisson's coefficient, thermal characteristics and others.

Damping and energy-consuming elements can be found in many technical applications. This means these component types can prevent fractures or injuries in the case of products or people, respectively. In the last time, many modern applications and inventions associated with the reduction of the effects of an impact are observed especially in the mode of transportation safety area. The significant development of the automotive industry, increasing popularity of motorbikes, electric bikes and scooters, sports field, etc., require new solutions for personal safety protection. Human head and neck protection, and other body parts protection are typical groups of solutions from biomechanics and mechanical engineering. Authors have investigated LDPE-made pneumatic absorbers under axial impact force. Based on the experimental approach and analytical model, mechanical characteristics are presented. Impact force value, deceleration and damping for different loading conditions are shown. Because safety systems’ impact protective features can be matched to impact conditions, results indicated that absorber damping could possibly be a good solution for them, shaping the impact characteristics according to safety requirements.

In the present study, a finite element impact model was developed and analyzed using commercial FEM code ANSYS® and then validated via a drop-weight impact experiment. Moreover, double-impactor impact models were designed and developed with different impact distribution and locations of two impactors to compare impact properties. A total of 18 impact scenarios comprised of asymmetric and symmetric types were performed. The effect of impact location on the impact resistance force and duration time was investigated: the closer the impact point is to the fabric center, the longer the impact duration time. In addition, the effect of impact location on impactor failure deflection was also investigated and it was concluded that regardless of the symmetric or asymmetric impact scenario, the smaller the average distance between the impact location of the two impactors from the fixed boundary, the smaller the overall average failure deflection that occurs. The relevance of impact location and fabric energy absorption capacity was also identified. Furthermore, the effect of impact location on fabric stress distribution and transverse deformation and of the variation of the impact velocity on fabric impact behaviors were investigated. These findings will provide important guidance for engineering soft body armor and composite materials.

Tourism has many dimensions. Travelling provides a huge opportunity for people with disabilities. Disabled people often feel the most comfortable in their place of residence, place of work, natural environment associated with their routine. This is due the fact that said environment has already been accessed and personalized to their special needs. The farther from their natural environment, the more barriers a disabled person faces. Tourism has a spatial character, therefore it is related to movement. People with disabilities have the same motivation for travelling as healthy people, however, their full participation is often limited by numerous architectural, organizational, or even mental barriers, connected with their own concerns. Meanwhile, the number of people with disabilities is growing. Disturbing is also the increasing number of people temporarily disabled after strokes or hearth attacks. Tourism by movement allows to eliminate the unpleasant consequences of disability in both physical and mental terms. The purpose of this article is to present the spatial aspect of tourism of people with disabilities, the barriers that they face while travelling and leaving their customized environment. Additionally, the paper presents the role of tourism in the process of social rehabilitation of the disabled and their activation with the rest of society.

To investigate impact characteristics of shape memory alloy hybrid com- posites (SMAHC), several experiments were performed. Tensile tests of shape memory alloy (SMA) wires were carried out to investigate thermomechanical properties, and low-velocity impact tests of SMAHC plates and conventional composite plates without SMAs at the critical energy level. low-velocity impact tests of several types of composite plates, including composite plates with embedded SMAs/Fe/Al wires and conventional composite plates, were also done. Results of these experiments show that embedding SMAs in a composite plate can improve the impact resistance. Lastly, low-velocity impact tests of SMAHC plates with SMA wires embedded at different positions through the thickness were performed in an effort to improve the impact resistance. Embedding SMA wires at a lower position in the composite plates was the most effective for improving the impact resistance.
Do analizy charakterystyk uderzeniowych hybrydowych kompozytów SMAHC zwierających włókna SMA ze stopów wykazujących efekt pamięci kształtu przeprowadzono szereg badań eksperymentalnych. Przeprowadzono próby na rozciąganie włókien SMA w celu zbadania ich właściwości termomechanicznych oraz niskoprędkościowe testy uderzeniowe płyt SMAHC oraz konwencjonalnych płyt laminowanych przy energii krytycznej. Wykonano także testy dla płyt kompozytowych zawierających włókna SMA/Fe/Al. Rezultaty doświadczeń pokazały, że wbudowanie w strukturę laminatu włókien SMA może zwiększyć odporność kompozytu na obciążenie uderzeniowe. Opisano również badania eksperymentalne płyt SMAHC z włóknami SMA wbudowanymi na różnej głębokości. Wykazano, że najlepsze parametry posiadają kompozyty z włóknami umieszczonymi możliwie daleko od uderzanej powierzchni.
