Opis:: Integrated general models of approximate approaches of complex multi-state series and parallel systems, linking their reliability and availability improvement models and their operation processes models caused changing reliability and safety structures and components reliability characteristics in different operations states, are constructed. These joint models are applied to determining improved reliability and availability characteristics of the considered multi-state series and parallel systems related to their varying in time operation processes. The conditional reliability characteristics of the multi-state systems with hot, cold single reservation of component and the conditional reliability characteristics of the multi-state systems with reduced rate of departure by a factor of system components are defined.

Opis:: Continuous Improvement jest koncepcją uznawaną w literaturze i praktyce zarządzania za niezbędną w dzisiejszym środowisku biznesowym. Artykuł dotyczy analizy znaczenia i miejsca zarządzania projektami w realizacji założeń ciągłego doskonalenia w organizacjach. W pierwszej części artykułu zaprezentowano wnioski wynikające z analizy literaturowej dotyczącej projektów doskonalących a następnie przedstawiono wyniki badań empirycznych przeprowadzonych w dużym przedsiębiorstwie produkcyjnym. Badanie oparte o studium przypadku pozwoliło na charakterystykę realizowanych projektów oraz identyfikację czynników sprzyjających i utrudniających osiąganie ich celów.
Continuous Improvement is a concept recognized in literature and management practice as essential in today's business environment. The article deals with the analysis of the importance and placement of project management in the implementation of the assumption of Continuous Improvement in manufacturing companies. The first part of the article presents the conclusions resulting from the literature review of the improvement projects implementation and then presents the results of empirical research carried out in the large production company. A case study has allowed the characteristics of the realized projects and identification of factors that are conducive to and obstructive to the achievements of their objectives.

Opis:: The article refers to the ability of continuous improvement of processes and their assessment in Polish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The research problem emerges from the lack of a clear and understandable model of self-assessment for this group of enterprises and also a minimal ability to precisely define areas for improvement. The way to competitiveness in these organizations usually starts with implementation of pro-quality management standards respondent to ISO 9001 standard requirements. The next steps are usually quite chaotic and do not employ a systematic approach and holistic view of an enterprise. Polish Quality Award and EFQM excellence models are too general at this stage of a SME organization’s maturity. Thus, the main goal of the author’s paper was to develop and verify the idea of a modularized measuring model of an organization’s excellence. The article presents the results of literature research, the developed simplified diagram of the theoretical model and, consequently, focused research – a revised model of excellence for small and medium-sized enterprises. The model consists of five modules defined by terms as: quality, maintenance, ergonomics and OSH, environment and logistics, and for each of the modules offers six evaluation criteria: policy and strategy, preventive measures, teamwork, staff qualifications, and communication (internal and external).

Opis:: One of the side eects of the American 1979 recession-triggered replacement of Keynesian Economics by Monetarism of the Milton Friedman Chicago School of Economics was the replacement of managing engineers by administrators in technology organizations, construction and projects.In that role reversal, costs invariably started to go up with growing administration preoccupied with numbers and dates, and with form often prevailing over content that seemed to be sometimes “lost in translation”. The era sometimes called “Economics of Excess” had begun.Organizations faced with escalating costs have kept searching for improvement solutions making use of elaborate analytical top-down methods, with very mixed results. A simple bottom up approach and methods developed and applied by the author on industrial and educational projects are summarized. Tey have been very successful on their own as well as in supporting organizational improvement eorts. They are directly applicable to the concept of Economics of Moderation.

Opis:: Currently, companies must change and evolve to keep pace with the changing environment, customers’ requirements and to be better than their competitors. The changes result from the need to adapt the products to new customers’ requirements as well as to maintain competitive prices of their products. Therefore, companies should be flexible to guarantee short lead time and minimalize their costs to offer a good price for the customers. At the same time, companies should create good work environment for their employees in order to get them involved in improvement processes. In order to survive and develop companies should motivate and involve their employees into a continuous improvement process in different areas of the company. Unfortunately, as based on the companies’ practice and previous research, in many cases employees are not willing to engage in the company development. Continuous improvement is the basis of the philosophy of Quality Management and Lean Manufacturing, which come from Toyota Production System (TPS). The TPS eventually spread throughout the world, and it is held up as an example of the proper management of a production system. The assumptions of TPS system were used to build systems in other companies, but not always with the same success as it was in Toyota. For this reason, the authors of this paper seek to answer the question of whether there are differences in engagement in a continuous improvement process between employees in a Japanese company and a Polish company operating in the same industry and realizing the similar manufacturing. In order to verify this, the research was conducted in two manufacturing companies which operate in the automotive industry. The results of the study and their analysis are presented in the work.

Opis:: This study was carried out in a clothing company to determine the parameters that influence the decline in production. The results showed that the parameter "Machine failures" had a 34.6% effect on production, and "lack of versatility" 19.7%, while the parameter "heavy launch" had an effect of 17.1%, "lack of supplies" 9%, touch-ups 3%, and "lack of cut parts" 2%. Indeed, the application of lean and six sigma tools and especially the D.M.A.I.C and TPM methods are two tools that improve efficiency and productivity in a production workshop. Thus, a grid was developed to monitor and maintain the effectiveness of improvement actions and for the continuity of the spirit of improvement within the production department without forgetting that teamwork makes it possible to improve the result.
