Opis:: At the crossroads of the approaches of reported speech : about the French and Polish theorising of reported speech This study presents the theoretical framework of a research project which, in a comparative perspective, deals with the linguistic and discursive question of reported speech in the Polish and French print media. The objective of this contribution is to discuss the fundamental theoretical points of this project, which are related firstly to the comparative approach, and secondly to the theorising of reported speech in grammars and linguistic studies, in order to show the differences in the treatment of reported speech in the French and Polish research.

Opis:: The first part of this study is an attempt to summarize Czech theories which develop the topic of reported speech (forms of presenting speech) and reported thought in literary works, that is, the use of direct speech/thought, indirect speech/thought, free direct speech/thought and free indirect speech/thought. Special attention is devoted to the internal monologue (the “reproduction” of unspoken utterances which only occurs as thoughts), most often based upon the alternation of free direct speech/thought and free indirect speech/thought, and how it is made into dialogue. This theoretical summary is based mainly on the works of L. Dole el, but on other authors as well (J. Haller, J. Hoffmannová, R. Adam, D. Hodrová, J. Koten and others). In the second part, these theories are applied in an analysis of texts by the young Czech author Petra Soukupová. In her individual works, we demonstrate coinciding as well as differing ways of subjectivizing the narrative: the narrator’s identification with the characters, the use of ich-forms, various forms of reproduction speech and thoughts (including hypothetical utterances) and the dialogized construction of internal monologues. The final part of the text focuses on the way in which typical elements of spoken Czech, above all syntactic ones, are utilized in the reproduction/reporting of the speech as well as the thoughts, reflections, and feelings of Petra Soukupová’s characters. On the one hand, there are linguistic means used to achieve reduction: the minimalization of expressions, concision and fragmentation (ellipsis, mainly the omission of the finite verb, parceling, in- dependent sentence elements, list structures, infinitive constructions). On the other hand, there is juxtaposition, which enables the free addition of syntactic units, which is often used for the associative construction of the internal monologue.

Opis:: According to the report “We Are Social” (2021), one of the most important reasons why Internet users take to social media platforms are: “stay up-to-date with news and current events”, “seeing what’s being talked about”, and “sharing and discussing opinions with others”. They are all focused on quoting. Our research helped us to confirm the dominance of posts with quotations in social media (the institutional broadcasters’ profiles). Quotation can take various forms to produce different results. Direct quotations include direct speech, text islets, and pseudo-quotations; indirect quotations include indirect speech and narrated speech. Direct quotations in the form of various direct references accounted for 73% of quotations on Twitter and 61% on Facebook. This confirms the tremendous popularity of quotations in direct speech – senders avoid allegations of being partial; after all they show the facts that speak for themselves. It is strategies of the senders which increase misinformation.

Opis:: The topic of this discussion is the defensive function of indirect speech acts. The first part of the reader will be able to look at the theories of speech acts by John Austin and John Searle, which are the source of the creation of indirect speech acts. Then the concept was described illocutionary force, which is closely related to the topic of the study. In the following section are ways of interpreting indirect speech acts by means of the theory of conversational implicatures Paul Grice and John Searle's approach. The next part described the theory of politeness Penelope Brown and Stephen Levinson and research on indirect speech acts that were inspired to conduct my experiment cited in the second part of the study.
Tematem niniejszych rozważań jest obronna funkcja pośrednich aktów mowy. W pierwszej części pracy czytelnik będzie mógł zapoznać się z teoriami aktów mowy autorstwa Johna Austina i Johna Searle’a, które są źródłem powstania pośrednich aktów mowy. Następnie zostało opisane pojęcie mocy illkocyjnej, które jest ściśle związane z tematem pracy. W dalszej części przedstawione zostały sposoby interpretowania pośrednich aktów mowy przy pomocy teorii implikatur konwersacyjnych Paula Grice’a oraz podejście Johna Searle’a. W kolejnych rozdziałach opisana została teoria grzeczności Penelope Brown’a i Stephen Levinson’a oraz badania na temat pośrednich aktów mowy, które były inspiracją do przeprowadzenia przeze mnie eksperymentu przytoczonego w drugiej części pracy.

Opis:: This article is a part of research project that focuses on citations in media coverage in Poland after 1989; two earlier installments of the article have been included in earlier publications of “Poznańskie Studia Polonistyczne”. Part Three provides a discussion on and characteristics of the category of the average man in the street, ordinary people whose utterances are increasingly included in the journalistic narration. Taking the notion of everyday life, with which the demand for an ordinary man in the media is closely linked, as a starting point in the discussion, the authors proceed to characterize citations, along with their explanatory attributions, indicate their textual functions and analyse the categories that are revealed within the process: anonymity, transparency and singularity.

Opis:: The paper sets out to describe the “free indirect speech” of film, which the author chooses to cali “mediated subjective narrative”. Based on specific examples, the author characterizes the narrative devices which in a way are analogous to what literary studies define as “free indirect discourse”. The basic indicators of that textual figure include subjectivization of communication on a stylistic level and interference of internal and external focalization.

Self-silencing can be a discursive strategy for presenting personal opinions in casual conversations about politics, especially when these take place in an unpredictable or hostile socio-political environment. In such situations, political identities may be performed through the use of inferred forms, such as allusion, irony or implicit suggestion. In this article, forms of muting one’s voice by using indirect speech are tracked in interviews conducted among villagers in the mountainous Nowy Targ county in southern Poland at the beginning of the 21st century. The aim in presenting these examples is to show that sometimes selfsilencing can serve to make an adversary’s voice more audible, to help avoid definitive judgement and to create space for an exchange of opinions

Opis:: The present paper aims to investigate which types of speech acts play a dominant role in the texts of online job advertisements, to what extent those acts are realised indirectly, and what purposes this indirectness may serve. The research is based on an analysis of a corpus comprising 100 online recruitment ads, of which 60 appeared in the Internet editions of three major UK newspapers, and the remaining 40 were found on two of the leading UK job portals. Methodologically the study is grounded in the cognitive approach to speech act theory, whereby the speech act taxonomy as proposed by J. Searle is treated as prototypical categorisation enhancing the organisation and systematicity of the analysis. The findings indicate that over a half of the micro-acts identified in the sample are realised indirectly. The two largest categories comprise assertions and ‘complex’/ambiguous micro-acts, both performing the functions of boasting and promising, and thus contributing to the overall persuasive appeal of recruitment ads.

Der Konjunktiv in polnischen Lehrbüchern für Deutsch
Conditional mood in German textbooks

Opis:: Presented master’s thesis is focused on the subject of “Conditional mood in German textbooks”. This work consists of three chapters. There is in detail introduced German conditional (Konjunktiv) in first part. In this chapter can be found clearly presented rules with number of examples.In second part German conditional is compared to this one which is in Polish language. It must be stressed that there is no semantically suited Konjunktiv I category in Polish and indirect speech is created by indicative forms. There are also lots of examples thanks to which the subject is more comprehensible.In last part we can find exercises which were searched from German textbooks. Vocabulary used in training tasks is extensive and therefore exercises are more interesting.The master’s thesis ends with summary full of conclusions.
Dana praca magisterska zajmuje się tematem „Trybu przypuszczającego w podręcznikach szkolnych do języka niemieckiego”. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów.W pierwszej części pracy zostaje szczegółowo omówiony niemiecki tryb przypuszczający (Konjunktiv). W tym rozdziale można znaleźć jasno sformułowane reguły z szeregiem przykładów.W drugim rozdziale zostaje porównany niemiecki tryb przypuszczający z tym, który występuje w języku polskim. Trzeba przy tym podkreślić, że w języku polskim nie ma żadnej semantycznie odpowiadającej Konjunktiv I kategorii a mowa zależna tworzona jest przy pomocy form oznajmujących. W tym rozdziale pojawiają się również liczne przykłady, dzięki którym można lepiej zrozumieć temat.W ostatnim rozdziale znajdujemy ćwiczenia, które zostały wyszukane z podręczników szkolnych do języka niemieckiego. Użyte w materiale ćwiczeniowym słownictwo jest bardzo bogate, co sprawia, że ćwiczenia są interesujące.Praca magisterska kończy się podsumowaniem, w którym pojawiają się wnioski.
Die vorliegende Magisterarbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema „Konjunktiv in polnischen Lehrbüchern für Deutsch“. Die Arbeit besteht aus drei Kapiteln.Im ersten Teil wird der Konjunktiv genau besprochen. In diesem Kapitel kann man einfach formulierte Regeln mit einer Vielzahl von Beispielen finden.Im zweiten Abschnitt wird der deutsche Konjunktiv mit dem Polnischen verglichen. Man muss dabei betonen, dass es in der polnischen Sprache keine dem deutschen Konjunktiv I semantisch entsprechende Finitkategorie gibt. Die indirekte Rede wird mit Hilfe der indikativischen Formen gebildet.Im letzten Kapitel finden wir Übungen, die aus den Lehrbüchern für Deutsch ausgesucht wurden. Der im Übungsmaterial verwendete Wortschatz ist sehr umfangreich und das macht Übungen interessant.Am Ende der Diplomarbeit stehen Zusammenfassung und Schlussfolgerungen.
