Opis:
Rapid technological development in recent years has contributed to numerous changes in many areas of life, including education and communication. Establishing interdisciplinary collaboration brings many benefits, it is, however, often associated with numerous problems and inconveniences, as well as the need for constant improvement, lifelong learning, professional development (CPD) and finding an effective way of information transfer. Living in a constant rush makes the logical order of information transfer become a key aspect, as more and more operations are being done chaotically, using multiple online tools. Although collaboration happens to be complicated even for colleagues specializing in different aspects of the same profession, establishing cooperation between specific groups of interdisciplinary specialists, such as engineers and physicians, has a significant impact on modern diagnostics and medical treatment development. Based on some selected case studies investigated at Gdańsk University of Technology and Medical University of Gdańsk, supported by an overview of available education and collaboration tools, a solution based on the Moodle LMS platform has been proposed, implemented, and analyzed.

Living in a constant rush makes the logical order of information transfer become a key aspect, as more and more operations are being done chaotically, using multiple online tools.

Opis:
Introduction: The rehabilitation of patients following the treatment for head and neck cancers (HNCs), particularly laryngeal cancer, represents a critical component of comprehensive care. Advanced surgical techniques and radiochemotherapy enable the radical treatment of the primary disease; however, restoration of full functional capacity in patients remains a significant challenge, especially in relation to speech, swallowing, and stomatognathic system functions. A multidisciplinary approach to treatment and rehabilitation is increasingly recognized as the gold standard. Nevertheless, there is a paucity of literature addressing the collaboration between otorhinolaryngologists, physiotherapists, and speech therapists specializing in oncology. Aim: The objective of this study is to review the standards of collaboration between healthcare specialists and the benefits derived from interdisciplinary therapy for patients following laryngeal cancer treatment, drawing on the experiences of the team of the Department of Laryngology, Medical University of Silesia in Katowice. Case study: Patient A had undergone total laryngectomy with primary implantation of a voice prosthesis. The rehabilitation process involved hospital physiotherapy, starting with the diagnosis and treatment of cervical spine and muscle dysfunction, as well as speech therapy focused on learning to use the voice prosthesis. Later stages included myofascial and anti-edema techniques, and the patient mastered using the Provox® system. Patient B had undergone laryngectomy and radiotherapy and was directed to learn esophageal speech or use an electrolarynx. Physiotherapy techniques aimed at improving tissue flexibility in the neck region allowed more efficient use of the electrolarynx. In both cases, pain in the head and neck area was reduced. Results: A review of the literature and case reports demonstrates significant benefits of interdisciplinary collaboration in the rehabilitation of patients after HNC treatment. This collaboration positively impacts patient function and improves their quality of life. Conclusions: Forming interdisciplinary teams is essential for further advancing the treatment process for patients after oncological treatment of HNCs, particularly laryngeal cancer. Such an approach facilitates comprehensive rehabilitation, contributing to better therapeutic outcomes and improved patient reintegration into normal life.

Opis:
There has been a continuously increasing focus and discussion on interdisciplinary collaboration in primary care, across various settings and in different forums, during the past few years. Interprofessional and interdisciplinary collaboration should be a cornerstone of daily practice and context-relevant research. We considered it important for this manuscript to attempt to address some of the key issues linked to the recognised need for competence-based training, focusing on interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration, so as to promote and enhance context-relevant research in primary care. This article provides a general introduction and an overview of this topic, along with some key concepts and operational definitions. These key definitions and their interrelated nature are examined in detail, including those of practice-based research network, patient-centred primary care research, and interdisciplinary partnership for research. Furthermore, this paper outlines the reasons for the strong focus on composition and the development of strategies to enhance the research capacity of interdisciplinary partnerships throughout training. Workforce training, retention and academic collaboration are considered, with a particular focus on primary care, and existing interprofessional relationships and perceptions thereof. Organizational aspects influencing relationships and practice are considered along with their contribution in terms of practice, research and discourse. Finally, conclusions and recommendations, formed under the prism of rapidly changing population needs, person-centred values and the imperative need of bringing innovation to the patient in an effective and efficient manner, are presented for further discussion.

Opis:
Architects’ position is altered due to the emerging digital frameworks, processes and technologies in the Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. Architects communicate and collaborate by using language of design (Schön, 1983). Nowadays this communication is often expressed through BIM-based tools. These tools together with emerging digital frameworks like Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) impact the interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge transfer in the AEC industry (Slotina, 2021)engineering and construction industry (AEC. Although architects have an important role in the AEC industry, their representation in VDC-courses in Norway over the last three years was around 3%. This raises the question whether architects are aware of how digital frameworks are affecting the interdisciplinary way they collaborate? And are digital frameworks like VDC supporting the way architects conceptualize design? This study uses semi-structured interviews with seven architects to look at the architect’s self-perception on the way they are conceptualizing design. The interviews are analysed using People, Process and Technology (PPT) framework based on Owen (2013). The analysis of PPT shows that technology dominates in relation to architects’ way of conceptualizing design in the VDC framework. For the digital frameworks to improve the collaboration for architects in interdisciplinary teams, it should take into the consideration the processes architects go through when they conceptualize design. Digitalization processes like Building Information Modelling (BIM) changes the way architects conceptualize and design buildings (Abdelhameed (2006), Hermund (2009)but are there other problems with the implementation of BIM as a formulized system in a field that ultimately is dependent on a creative input? Is optimization and economic benefit really contributing with an architectural quality? In Denmark the implementation of the digital working methods related to BIM has been introduced by government law in 2007. Will the important role of the architect as designer change in accordance with these new methods, and does the idea of one big integrated model represent a paradox in relation to designing? The BIM mindset requires changes on many levels”, ”container-title”:”Computation: The New Realm of Architectural Design [27th eCAADe Conference Proceedings / ISBN 978-0-9541183-8-9] Istanbul (Turkey, Shen et al. (2010)). This causes distress as the design issues are being solved “on the spot” (Slotina, 2021)engineering and construction industry (AEC. Architects’ awareness of digital frameworks like VDC affects how architects can contribute to the development of those frameworks. This research shows how architects can improve the balance of people, process, and technology in new emerging digital frameworks.

Opis:
The paper aims at discussing the major issues relating to the current transformation of special education systems to an inclusive system which has an impact on the area of speech and language therapy (SLT) intervention, conceived as a collaborative discipline that focuses not only on isolated speech disorders, but also on symptomatic speech disorders and related problems. It also describes the role of universities in the undergraduate education of speech and language therapists in the context of interdisciplinary collaboration and working with people with special needs.

Opis:
With advances in research environments and the accompanying increase in the complexity of research projects, the range of skills required to carry out research calls for an increase in interdisciplinary and collaborative work. CogNovo, a doctoral training program for 25 PhD students, provided a unique opportunity to observe and analyze collaborative processes. We propose a process-oriented framework for understanding research collaborations along two dimensions: interpersonal and project-related. To illustrate the utility of this process-oriented framework, we apply the framework matrix to several collaborations that emerged within the CogNovo program. The framework that we introduce has several advantages over existing metrics. Firstly, we offer a process-oriented-as opposed to product-oriented-evaluation of interdisciplinary and collaborative endeavors. Secondly, we propose a means of assessment that preserves the distinctive profile (or “fingerprint”) of a given collaborative project, thus capturing the uniqueness of each project and its environment.

Aim: The aim of the research is to discuss if the lean thinking methodology may contribute to enhance interdisciplinarity and collaboration in higher education engineering courses, namely when applied to engineering students at a Portuguese Higher Education Technology School. Methods. Lean thinking is an organisational methodology that uses innovation to organise and optimise human activities with the aim of eliminating waste. This methodology can be applied to a wide range of activities envisaging to mainly perform tasks that effectively add value to the related processes. When used in an educational context, this approach may also contribute to identifying which activities successfully contribute to add value to the students’ learning process, as opposed to being ineffective for that aim. Results. Current study focuses on interdisciplinarity through a set of collaborative Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) tasks that were planned, tested and assessed in an engineering Higher Education context. Conclusion. One of the main aspects envisaged through the developed CLIL tasks was to contribute to the enhancement of peer-to-peer collaborative learning in an interdisciplinary context, another was to reflect on reciprocal cooperation methodologies that enhance interdisciplinarity in Higher Education.
