Opis:
Nowadays, research in second language acquisition (SLA) is becoming increasingly interdisciplinary while many technical frontiers and research hotspots have emerged. Many studies focus on interdisciplinary topics, but few in-depth studies have been conducted on interdisciplinarity. This study examined the interdisciplinarity of SLA and the interdisciplinary development process using a bibliometrics approach. The study has found that the SLA discipline has played roles as both the provider and recipient of knowledge in the development of interdisciplines. In the first case, SLA theories and methods flow into the research areas of life sciences and technology to form interdisciplinary studies with brain research, neurology, cognition, computer technology, and engineering, making SLA a provider of knowledge In the second case, SLA research receives knowledge from areas of arts and humanities and social sciences as well as from interdisciplinary studies within its own discipline, making SLA a receiver of knowledge. The new insights into the interdisciplinarity of SLA provided in this study are helpful for our deeper understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of the SLA discipline.

Opis:
Life in increasingly digitalised society demands high levels of education from contemporary man. To meet that demand, inclusive education has to come up with new strategies. Solutions can be found in a interdisciplinary approach to education. On this basis, the use of modelling with elementary mathematics as a way of integrating diverse academic subjects in the school curriculum is being developed. New interdisciplinary educational technologies are created and their applicability and effect on both students with and without learning disabilities are tested. The experiments are carried out in a standard learning environment with the participation of disabled students. The paper presents the results and, finally, conclusions are drawn.

Opis:
Contemporary changes which can be found in almost all areas of human activity bring us to the reflection aiming at redefining the notion of rehabilitation, reexamination of the meaning fields of the concept and its new extent. The holistic approach towards development processes compels the interdisciplinary paradigm. Fields, areas and specific scientific disciplines cannot be limited only to their specifications. They cannot remain indifferent to the things that concern others interested in distinct areas of functioning. Such an attitude does not favour the things that should be characteristic of professionals taking decisions about contact, initiation and conducting or continuing helping activities – the responsibility for the complex and proper development of a patient, a client, a nursling or a pupil… New areas appear which were not earlier associated with the necessity of rehabilitation (e.g occupational or social rehabilitation). Realising their multiplicity and the fact that there are still new ones to come is the basis for effective actions. It indicates the obligatory open stand as much as the readiness and willingness to discuss and to listen to arguments of interlocutors rather than adversaries.

Opis:
Ever since various technologies started to develop at such a rapid pace, people’s lives have been forced to adapt to a new reality. For over a decade now, people have spent significantly more time using digital devices. Following Jung (2005), interactivity is what most attracts people to digitality. As is commonly known, although digital devices seemingly give us an opportunity to keep in touch with friends all day long, they may produce feelings of loneliness. While smartphones and computers are already part of human life, a technology that has been developed in the past years and has found another use is Virtual Reality (VR). The possible junction of Diamandis (2020) and Marr (2020) ideas may lead to a change of the world as we know it. Although its impact is not yet fully present in our lives, the author believes it necessary to discuss the possibilities and dangers that may appear in the next few years, assuming the constant development of technology. VR technology is already present in specialized professions such as aviation (Lele 2011), the armed forces and medicine (Müller-Wittig 2011). Moreover, while VR has found interest in other industries, it is not always effective, as without special training the user might experience a kind of information overload (Yen et al. 2012). Nevertheless, not only training can be conducted, as VR also finds interest in the educational sector and might be used in virtual lessons (Du 2014). The article strives to presents a new look at the issue of VR’s and AR’s possible influence on media society. In this article, the advantages and disadvantages of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are gathered, analyzed, and then assessed. The author believes that this paper constitutes an attempt at highlighting the most important issues from an interdisciplinary perspective, linking a scientific perspective with a humanities-based viewpoint.

Opis:
The article discusses the interdisciplinary approaches to the study of regional economic systems and an integrated approach to the theory and methods of spatial development in spatial progress analysis. In addition, the administrative and the reproduction approaches of scientists to the assessment of specific territorial entities are analysed. Attention is paid to the manifestation forms of the reproduction stages with a complete cycle. Examples of specific national systems’ development and political institutions are considered ed, and also the important processes directly impacting on the regionalization are highlighted. For example, economic disciplines characterize the region as spatial, socio-economic integrity, where the main processes of material production take place and the integrity of the reproduction base is preserved. The approaches of various scientific disciplines in the research on regional economic systems and specific recommendations for their development are shown.

Opis:
Aim/Thesis: The aim of this research is to promote the use of the three concepts-- the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD), the Gettier Problem, and Corpus Linguistics (Contextual Learning)--to increase the academic performance of early undergraduate engineering students. Concept/Methods: 30 Engineering students completed one untimed Mensa IQ Test of 10 questions and one Simon-Binet IQ Test of 50 random IQ questions with a 12 minute time limit. These 30 students were chosen from two different college sections:  15 students from each section. Before the second Simon-Binet Test, one group, G(a), was given ZPD scaffolding in three major topics — Working Memory, Fluid Reasoning and Spatial Reasoning —as they had answered questions based on these concepts incorrectly in their first Mensa IQ test. The second group, G(b), was not given  the ZPD scaffolding. A statistical t-test that was later performed indicated that G(a), with scaffolding, outperformed G(b), without the scaffolding, in the second IQ test.  Results and conclusion: Using the t-test, it is seen that the hypothesis of this research that ZPD, Gettier Problem and Corpus Linguistics can enhance the performance of the students in a short time period is correct. After the first Mensa IQ test, the level of both the groups G(a) and G(b) of engineering students was  almost the same, indicated by a very similar mean results.  However, after supporting G(a) utilizing ZPD, Gettier Problem and Corpus Linguistics for their three problem areas - Working Memory, Fluid Reasoning and Spatial Reasoning  - identified after their first IQ test where the students needed scaffolding, the performance of this group  improved more in comparison to G(b),  as indicated by the results of the second online Simon-Binet Test.        Research restrictions: It was not possible to provide all the random questions of the online Simon-Binet test given to all 30 students because the total number of questions would be 30*50=1500. Only the first ten questions of the Mensa IQ test are included in this research paper. Further, the third and fourth year engineering students are not included in this research as it is assumed that they have had already developed expertise and the effect of the investigated tools would not be clearly visible.  Practical application: ZPD scaffolding was applied to the students when the students’ major problem areas were identified as requiring contextual learning and support. The Gettier Problem-- an epistemological concept-- was also used to keep their mind open at all the times during the learning process and Linguistics Corpus gave the contextual support as ZPD proposes the social-contextual mode of learning. Originality/Cognitive value: The paper presents empirical research on engineering students demonstrating the practical utility of ZPD, Gettier Problem and Corpus Linguistics in the process of learning, potentially irrespective of any discipline.
