Data collected through an online survey and through a number of detailed company assessments throw light on the relative strengths and weaknesses of different elements of Knowledge Management (KM) frameworks as applied globally. The online survey –a quick self-administered test, shows the strongest elements within the framework to be Technology and Behaviors and Culture. The weakest elements are KM Governance and KM Roles. The assessment – a detailed diagnostic process based on in-depth interviews, shows the strongest elements within the framework to be Technology and the Discussion of Knowledge. The weakest elements are KM Governance and KM Roles. A comparison of the results from the two sources is reassuringly close. More data may allow a more detailed analysis. Preliminary results suggest that national culture may influence the development of Knowledge Management Frameworks, with a correlation between strong Individuality and weak KM Governance and Roles.

Knowledge constitutes a wide and complex matter which has provided a definition for the epistemological dispute in the philosophy of the West since the times of the classical Greek era. Nonetheless, in the recent years, great interest has occurred in approaching knowledge as an important organizational resource. The increased interest in organizational knowledge and knowledge management originates from the conversion into the area of knowledge economy, in which it is perceived as the primary source of the creation of value and sustainable competitive advantage. Knowledge Management (KM) constitutes an integral part of the business world in contemporary times. This can be seen at a time of analyzing the modern literature of business, management, technology as well as organization. This worker views and interprets KM literature in enterprises. The main aim of the research is to summarize literature on the subject of Knowledge Management (KM) and to get the sense of the primary concepts/common terms, conventional definitions in the area of knowledge and Knowledge Management (KM).This work constitutes a profound overview on the process of the management of organizational knowledge with great focus put on the possible part of IT in the different phases of the process of knowledge management. The author chose this subject as not much research has been carried out to analyze this side of KM.

Nowadays, many companies have realized that a very important element in the management of a company is the ability to use an appropriate management of knowledge. Knowledge management uses knowledge, management, innovation and intellectual capital to create new value for the company. It is not a temporary but systematic and orderly activity in the cross-section of entire enterprise. The creativity of employees in improving processes, skillful management of knowledge can significantly contribute to the achievement of organizational objectives and improve the competitive position of the organization. The purpose of this article is to present the main issues related to the management of knowledge. The article consists of two parts: theoretical and empirical. The first theoretical part presents general issues related to knowledge, knowledge management, such as: definitions, objectives, types, process models and strategies. The second part presents an empirical example of an international corporation Google, which is able to effectively manage knowledge.

Opis:
The paper is dedicated to the Knowledge Management Information Systems (KMIS) as support tools for knowledge workers (KWs) activities. The general aim of the paper is to analyze the currently used systems and find out whether they meet all the requirements of KWs in the Knowledge Management (KM) process. To clarify the subjects of the research, the notions KWs and KMIS are presented in the form of concept maps. To specify the demands of KWs as for the software tools that assist them in the process of KM, the typology of KWs tasks was developed. Operation of the KMIS is examined from the point of view of their compatibility with the tasks and actions performed by KWs – in order to enhance functionality of the existing systems. The systems are divided into groups, each of them matched with a particular KM task. A case study of the open-source platform Moodle is given as a justification of the fact that support quality of KMIS presently requires improvements

Knowledge is now treated as a strategic resource of the enterprise. Their functioning in conditions of constant changes caused the challenges connected with the need of continuous learning. The article presents the results of empirical research conducted among 608 enterprises operating in Poland in 2009 and a sample of 626 firms in 2011. Knowledge management is done using a number of methods which form the knowledge management system. Among these methods a special place is occupied by the informatics methods for supporting knowledge management. The modernization of the organization and forms of work takes place also at universities. The effectiveness of the implemented methods improves knowledge management and increases universities’ contribution to the process of creating knowledge based economy. In the paper the most popular IT methods in knowledge management used by university employees together with an assessment of their effectiveness were presented. Te author defined also the concept of knowledge management process and pointed to the goals of knowledge management at universities. Moreover, the paper provides recommendations for universities for the selection of IT methods in knowledge management.
