Opis:: The delimitation of landscape units can be helpful in the preparation of studies related to landscape protection and landscaping. The aim of this article is to propose the modification of the method of local landscape delimitation developed for the landscape audit for the needs of protected areas. The comparison of two methods of delimitation indicates that the same area can be assigned to different landscape types and subtypes. The proposed modification of the method of landscape unit delimitation allows a more detailed reflection of the landscape and its links to the administrative boundaries of administrative communities.

Opis:: Landscapes constantly change under the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors. They can be destructive as well as leading to regeneration of landscapes which have been imbalanced. When this process occurs in a natural or human-controlled manner with the use of natural elements of the environment, it is called renaturalisation, and the resulting landscape – renaturalised landscape. Where landscape restitution occurs under the purposeful, sustainable and rational human influence, we talk of the recultivation process and the resulting landscape is termed recultivated. Examples of both of these terms added to landscape classification have been described based on several quarries existing within the City of Krakow.

Opis:: This study aims to investigate the dynamic pattern of landscape ecological units (LEUs) and analyse spatial variations of the ecological risk in Parangtritis coastal dune, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A quantitative method was used in this research as part of landscape ecological analysis using a geographic information system. LEUs were interpreted by small format aerial photographs (SFAPs) and verified through field survey, then were calculated using the formula within grids to produce the ecological risk index (ERI) in the total area. According to the sub-class and class scenario, many LEUs showed changes in their landscape pattern. The ERI in the study area consisted of five levels (very low to very high), each of which was spatially varied. The ecological risk formed clusters coinciding with certain LEUs where fragility chiefly contributed to the sub-class scenario, while disturbance contributed to the class scenario.

Opis:: In this paper we propose to look at rural landscape from the perspective of heritage. The issue of landscape is presented in the context of contemporary factors which result from the evolving approach both to the notion of heritage itself and to the rules of its conservation. It was noted that activities which identify not only the natural value of landscape but also its historic, cultural, visual, aesthetic and symbolic values, as well as activities which define a heritage community should become a permanent component of current works on integrated rural development. Rural landscapes are cultural landscapes emerged as a result of a long interaction of environmental factors with the activities of a community living in a given area. In these landscapes traces of the past can be seen in a form of landscape patterns. Identifying and defining landscape heritage should be an important component of spatial planning processes. Landscape is shaped on a local scale. In the spatial planning system existing in Poland it is local governments which are the authorities with the largest responsibility over spatial planning. The mere conservation of landscape resources without any measures which aim at planning and managing these resources is not sufficient as an effective management tool. In this paper we propose activities which serve to identify and assess the elements of landscape heritage of a given locality and which may be taken up by a local government interested in building a sense of local identity and creating a bond with the local area. The observations we present are set against legal solutions introduced with the Law of 24 April 2015 on amending certain laws in connection with strengthening the landscape conservation instruments (Ustawa 2015).

Opis:: This text presents an attempt to reread Darwin’s account of his journey on the Beagle. That account constitutes a report of meetings and confrontations with various “strangers”: men, animals, as well as with different faces of otherness and exoticism, that culminate in a landscape so radically distinct from the European one, namely that of the South Pacific. This interpretation allows us to look at Darwin—the narrator—as more than just a naive traveler who observes and judges the world exclusively through the narrow perspective of British imperialism. The naturalist struggles with describing that which exceeds his previous experiences. The imperialistic perspective of landscape taken up in this text allows us to reflect on Darwin’s perception of the landscape. The sights analyzed in the text are foremost treated as emanations of the powers of nature. At the same time, Darwin defines these sights in categories that are not scientific but aesthetic, finding them beautiful and sublime.

Opis:: At present, geoecology-related discussions are focused on the ability to provide systematic and universal landscape description in a variety of space and time scales, as well as in different functional systems. This requires the development of landscape schemes in the form of hierarchical structural and functional systems. This paper has therefore focused on concepts of crucial importance for landscape system description, such as scale, spatial range and structure and landscape functioning. The definition of these concepts and their characteristics are crucial for the ability to describe a landscape system, in terms of its structural and functional composition and valuation, as well as assessment of landscape and ecosystem functions and services. Therefore, the analysis allows a demonstration of approaches discussed in the subject literature and the authors’ opinions.

Tytuł:: Archaeological sites in the Nile Delta Landscape (Egypt) : economy, law, protection

Opis:: Northern Egypt was always an unusually important area for our study on the history of ancient Egyptian state. The “country of pa-pyrus” called by Egyptians temehu, their feeder and granary, a communication centre important for contacts with Levant. Several Egyptian capitals were also located here and during the antic period the region became a centre of culture, sciences and the cradle of Coptic religion. Paradoxically, this curious area was until quite lately very poorly investigated. Even now the problems of modern Egypt related with farming activities, demographic development and industrial spread as well as with the traditional way of thinking are clearly visible in this particular important region.

Tytuł:: Four dimensions of the Spitsbergen landscape

Opis:: Spatial differentiation of the Spitsbergen landscape is not determined by its geographical latitude and longitude due to the island’s location and influence of the sea-currents around the island. There is a clear landscape contrast between the eastern and western Spitsbergen coast. Horizontal and vertical landscape differentiation and its temporal development are outlined. There are three landscape vertical zones in Spitsbergen (glacial-nival, sub-nival, and the continuous Arctic tundra), apart from its eastern coast where there are only two of them (without the continuous tundra). However, the continuous tundra zone, absent in the east until today, may develop due to contemporary climate warming and its environmental implications there.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie czytelnikom zakresu stanowienia i zasad sporządzania audytu krajobrazowego. Autor uważa, że nie było potrzeby wprowadzenia audytu krajobrazowego do polskiego systemu prawnego, ponieważ: – nie zmuszało nas do tego ratyfikowanie Europejskiej Konwencji Krajobrazowej; – w 2006 r. i w 2015 r. mieliśmy, a w 2022 r. mamy wystarczającą liczbę narzędzi służących kształtowaniu i ochronie krajobrazu.
The aim of this article is to familiarize readers with the scope of establishing and the principles of preparing a landscape audit. The author believes that there was no need to introduce a landscape audit into the Polish legal system, because: – we were not forced to do so by the ratification of the European Landscape Convention; – in 2006 and in 2015 we had, and in 2022 we have, sufficient tools for shaping and protecting the landscape.
