Opis:: The main aim of the paper is to discuss different concepts of the classification of non-dominant diatopic lects. The study treats and compares different definitions proposed both by scholars and local legislative bodies. The author confronts the definitions of Normaldialect and Ausbaudialekt developed by H. Kloss with Duličenko’s concept of literary microlanguages, the notions of contested and collateral languages with different understandings of minority and regional languages, including variants thereof. The text is enriched with numerous examples both from the present and the past of non-dominant diatopic lects of Europe.

Opis:: The objective of this paper is to conduct a comprehensive review of synonymous or quasi-synonymous terms related to the phenomenon of inclusive language. The paper defines the concept of linguistic inclusivity, enumerating the analysed terms, and aims to clarify the reasons for the proliferation of terminologies. Additionally, it examines eight techniques designed to avoid the use of generic masculine expressions. The paper takes an analytical approach to characterize nine terms that frequently appear in linguistic literature, identifying which practices may be encompassed within the specified terms.

Tytuł:: Two Polish loanwords in Yakut ('snuff [tobacco]'; 'thousand'), being also a look at their reflexes in some other Siberian languages as well as in Russian

Opis:: The Polish origin of the Yakut word for ‘snuff’ was suggested some years ago but a closer look at this word nest reveals new and rather unclear aspects. The other word to be discussed here is that for ‘thousand’; its Russian origin is doubted by this author because of phonetic inaccuracies which can be well removed once a Polish etymon of the Yakut word is accepted.

Opis:: The concept of language decadence can be interpreted in different ways: as mixing of languages, language deterioration, or language loss. As linguists are aware, all these manifestations commonly attributed to so-called language decadence are actually phenomena of language change. The debate on language decadence, while fascinating to public opinion, is based upon an abstract inconsistent view of language as a perfect, immutable instrument, to be used according to precise rules. Nevertheless, it is unavoidable in foreign language instruction to refer to rules and to a manageable model of standard language. The transmission of awareness about language change can avoid the creation of myths about language decadence

Opis:: This article is devoted to the analysis of approaches to understanding the phenomenon of language policy in the Ukrainian sociolinguistic tradition during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The study points out the versatility and ambiguity of the term “language policy”, taking into consideration its interdisciplinary nature, multifaceted functioning in the language, and its usage along with the terms “language planning”, “language construction”, “language management” and so on. The author proposes using the term “language policy situation” along with the concept of “language situation”, which is already established in the Ukrainian sociolinguistic tradition, and by which we mean the regional dimension of national language policy. Attention has been drawn to the importance of constant attention of politicians to the issues of language life of the state and its individual regions, especially border ones. What is significant is an objective assessment of the state of language usage, and efforts aimed at ensuring the harmonisation of relations in society in the language sphere or significantly contributing to its achievement. The author also draws attention to the importance of rethinking traditional research methods, in particular the feasibility of using discursive approaches (especially critical discursive analysis). She observes that their elaboration in the context of language policy is a topical issue in sociolinguistics.
Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie rozumienia polityki językowej w ukraińskiej tradycji socjolingwistycznej w XX i XXI wieku. W opracowaniu zwrócono uwagę na wszechstronność i niejednoznaczność terminu „polityka językowa”, biorąc pod uwagę jego interdyscyplinarny charakter, wieloaspektowe funkcjonowanie w języku oraz używanie obok terminów „planowanie językowe”, „budowanie języka”, „zarządzanie językiem” itd. Autorka proponuje stosowanie terminu „sytuacja pod względem polityki językowej” wraz z pojęciem „sytuacja językowa”, które jest już ugruntowane w ukraińskiej tradycji socjolingwistycznej i przez które rozumiemy regionalny wymiar ogólnokrajowej polityki językowej. W opracowaniu podkreślono znaczenie stałej uwagi polityków, kierowanej na problematykę językową państwa i jego poszczególnych regionów, zwłaszcza przygranicznych, obiektywnej oceny stanu używania języka, zapewnienia harmonizacji stosunków społecznych w sferze językowej lub znaczących działаłań w kierunku jej osiągnięcia. Autorka zwraca również uwagę na znaczenie ponownego przemyślenia tradycyjnych metod badawczych, a szczególnie na możliwość zastosowania podejść dyskursywnych (zwłaszcza krytycznej analizy dyskursu). Zauważa, że ich opracowanie w kontekście polityki językowej jest aktualnym zagadnieniem w socjolingwistyce.

Opis:: The aim of this paper is to make an attempt to determine the status of language in the ad- ministrative-legal language communication sphere and a proposal for an intemal diffe- rentiation of this variety of Polish.The author supports the tradition of using the name administrative variant as the one of higher order to all the expressions servicing this sphere, and to distinguish within its scope the following: the legał subvariant as the central one (law is the broadest framework of administrative activities), the office subvariant and the rhetoric subvariant. Each of them may have a further differentiation depending on the assumed criteria.
