Opis:
Free electron laser FELs are built in Europe mainly as nondependent infrastructures, or as a development of synchrotron ones. They are constructed mainly in centres which have considerable experience with synchrotron light sources of the third generation like DESY, Trieste, INFN, etc. Advances in very energetically efficient superconducting linear accelerators for electron beams, like TESLA type, caused an abrupt development of FEL machines all over Europe. New generation of FELs emits light beam of extreme intensity, good parameters, in IR, VIS, UV, EUV and X-ray spectral regions. The machine construction teams comprise also of young active researchers from Poland. In particular, these is a considerable participation of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students from Warsaw University of Technology at building of FLASH I, FLASH II, and EXFEL machines. Unique experiences gathered at work with these large experiments result in development of these young teams, and their further engagement in new initiatives: laser, laser - accelerator, inertial, plasma, plasma - energy, etc. This is what we observe with satisfaction. However, due to the lack of large research infrastructures in Poland, we are not members of the infrastructure owner clubs. Our young researchers may take part in the initiatives only indirectly as members of cooperative teams from the leading countries. As a further consequence, there is also a confined access of Polish laser and accelerator researchers to some kinds of European infrastructure development projects now under realization within the H2020.

Development of experimental set-up for spectroscopy of van der Waals molecules - from controlled excitation to efficient detection of fluorescence
Autorzy:
Puczka, Krystian
Opis:
Opracowano oprogramowanie i scharakteryzowano urządzenia pomiarowe, które w przyszłości posłużą w eksperymentach spektroskopii molekuł van der Waalsa produkowanych w wiązce naddźwiękowej. By potwierdzić efektywność stworzonego oprogramowania, wykonano eksperyment spektroskopii absorpcyjnej rubidu.
Software was developed and diagnostics of measurement devices that in long term will be implemented in spectroscopy experiments of van der Waals (vdW) molecules produced in supersonic beam was made. Software for DL 100 (Toptica) diode laser was developed in C# programming language with a full graphical user interface. The software is devoted to an alexandrite ring laser PAL 101-PRO (Light Age) seeding system but can also work in independent experimental setups with functionalities such as data saving, simple data analysis and beam control with real-time graphs drawing. Advanced loop responsible for a direct wavelengths tuning was invented. The generated wavelengths in different temperatures and electric currents were analysed. An optimal time step of the tuning process was found to be equal to 50 µs for the electric current tuning and 10 s for the temperature tuning. The diode laser generates a single-mode beam in a wide range of temperatures and electric currents what was proven in measurements of the shape of the beam. Influence of the tuning process on generated wavelength and stability of the beam was measured. To confirm the effectiveness of the developed software, absorption spectroscopy in rubidium was performed. Software devoted to measurements with PicoScope (Pico Technology) oscilloscope has also been developed in C# programming language. The software is designed not only for measurements but also for the analysis of the measured data. Comparison between PicoScope and commonly used TDS 2024B (Teletronix) oscilloscopes was performed. Measurements of simulated fluorescence were realized with a resolution of 50 000 points for each waveform and interval equal to 3 ns. To prepare Mechelle 5000 spectrometer equipped with ICCD iStar 334T camera (Andor Technology), measurements of laser induced fluorescence of iodine molecule was performed. The B3Π+ 0u, υ΄ = 28 −→ X1Σ+ g , υ΄΄ transition has been characterised.

Opis:
Light plays a key role in human’s life. Without light there will be no human life environment. Technologies based on light, called photonics, decide of the development of our civilization. The role of photonics is constantly increasing, especially in such fields as energy, education, agriculture and health. The UN has established the International Year of Light and Light - based Technologies – IYL2015 [1]. The organizers of IYL2015 events are professional organizations, communities, educational organizations, non-profit ones, technological clusters and platforms, but also private sector. The aim is to increase the social consciousness about the role of light and photonics in building of our civilization. This sort of recognition is necessary as a needed component of the development process of the society. Introduction of new technologies, like completely new kind of lighting, new diagnostic and therapeutic methods, new sources of energy, etc., must meet with social acceptance. In the opposite case, isolated development of infrastructure, will meet with obstacles. In Poland, the professional events, technical, trade fairs and outreach ones, are organized in the framework of the IYL2015 by Photonics Society of Poland, Polish Physical Society, Polish Platform of Photonics Technologies, etc. The paper summarizes the issues combined with the organization of the IYL2015 globally and in Poland. Extended version of this paper was published in Polish [2]. The paper is a part of a cycle of articles devoted to analysis of global processes of photonics development. Previous papers concerned initiatives Photonics21 in Europe [3-4], NPI – National Photonics Initiative in USA [5], and development of optical sciences in Poland [6-15].

Opis:
Due to current legislation, a local public body is obliged to preserve as-built documentation of its buildings. A form of as-built documentation has been currently transforming according to building information modelling methodology. As-built documentation of listed buildings is an important step in preserving cultural heritage and allows preserving as much information as possible about immovable cultural monuments for future generations. Currently, building information models (BIM) of the real estate cultural heritage objects are being produced due to digitizing and conserving entire buildings with all the construction details with respect to culture heritage needs. Land surveyors are responsible for data acquisition at the building site to deliver geometrically accurate and precise 3D spatial data for the following modelling process as well as georeferencing data to appropriate datum and reference coordinate system. The 3D spatial data is primarily represented by a point cloud acquired by laser scanning technology. Historic buildings typically contain unique construction elements of very different and often more complex geometric shapes, such as arches, columns, statues, attics, etc. Such elements need to be individually modelled from the point cloud with respect to the precision of the model. The modelling process of existing historic building elements becomes far more demanding than the design of the future building. Building elements for new buildings are available in the construction products BIM database for information modelling. n the other hand, a certain degree of generalisation must always be considered when modelling historical buildings. The building elements are more of an aesthetic nature. Hence, the modelling process needs to cover the geometrical shape of the element, construction assembly as well as material definition. The resulting model of the element is geometrically and visually affected by a generalization of spatial information. Nowadays, game development environment tools are increasingly used outside the video game industry, especially in architecture/construction/engineering, automotive, virtual production, etc. Thus, the information model can be delivered to a broader audience of stakeholders without vendor-locked software restrictions. Simultaneously, culture heritage value can be provided to the public in an immersive way. This paper discusses in which cases generalization in the sense of the level of information needed (LOIN) is involved and when it is already a geometric error of modelling regarding the needs of the public body and specification of public procurement. In this paper, the matters mentioned above are described using several case studies of the creation of an information model of listed buildings, namely the Maxmilian’s Court in Kroměříž and the Parish office in Cetkovice.

Opis:
The laser cladding technology consists of the use of laser beam for precise deposition of a material layer with enhanced properties to the substrate. Therefore it finds special interest in the aviation industry. Appropriate preparation of the process involves performing simulation tests using two-phase flow models and laser beam interaction with material. Subsequently, the laser head movement paths are determined using dedicated CAD/CAM software. In the analysis of laser cladding technology applications for the aviation industry, the deposition of functional coatings, being an alternative to electrolytic chromium, was presented. Secondly, the repair of turbine blade tip was also analyzed. Moreover the capabilities of hybrid laser cladding technology with machining for the additive manufacturing aviation components made of titanium alloys were presented, as well as the method of temperature monitoring for the purpose of qualitative process control implementation.

Opis:
The main purpose of the work is to demonstrate the individual stages involved in the reverse engineering process by using a dynamometer equipped with a single-cylinder research engine AVL 5804 as an example. The project entails theoretical and practical aspects of measurements using 3D scanners. The Scantech KSCAN Magic hand-held optical scanner was used to obtain measurements of the geometry of the dynamometer. The CAD model was created in the Autodesk Inventor program, and its accuracy was verified by comparing it to the scan and generating a scale of deviations along with a color-coded representation of their size in the GOM Inspect program. The work was summarized with an example of upgrading the current stand based on a previously made design, which significantly shortened the process of modifying the intake system.

Opis:
Purpose: The paper presents the issues of designing the maintenance of materials and products in accordance with the idea of Industry 4.0. The author's views on the need for augmentation of the Industry 4.0 model were also presented, as well as the author's original concept that hybrid activities in predictive maintenance and condition-based maintenance should be preceded by designing material, maintenance & manufacturing 3MD at the stage of the product's material designing and technological designing. The 3MD approach significantly reduces the frequency of assumed actions, procedures and resources necessary to remain the condition of this product for the longest possible time, enabling it to perform the designed working functions. Examples of own advanced research on several selected, newly developed materials, used in very different areas of application, confirmed the validity of the scientific hypothesis and the relationship between the studied phenomena and structural effects and the working functions of products and their maintenance and indicated that material design is one of the most important elements guaranteeing progress production at the stage of Industry 4.0 of the industrial revolution. Design/methodology/approach: The author's considerations are based on an extensive literature study and the results of the author's previous study and empirical work. Each of the examples given required the use of a full set of research methods available to modern material engineering, including HRTEM high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Findings: The most interesting intellectual achievements contained in the paper include presentations of the author's original concepts regarding the augmentation of the Industry 4.0 model, which has been distributed so far, which not only requires augmentation but is actually only one of the 4 elements of the technology platform of the extended holistic model of current industrial development, concerning cyber-IT production aided system. The author also presents his own concept for designing material, maintenance and manufacturing 3MD already at the stage of material and technological design of the product, eliminating many problems related to product maintenance, even before they are manufactured and put into exploitation. Detailed results of detailed structural researches of several selected avant-garde engineering materials and discussion of structural changes that accompanying their manufacturing and/or processing are also included. Originality/value: The originality of the paper is associated with the novelty of the approach to analysing maintenance problems of materials and products, taking into account the requirements of the contemporary stage of Industry 4.0 development. The value of the paper is mainly associated with the presentation of original issues referred to as findings, including the concept of augmentation of the Industry 4.0 model and the introduction and experimental confirmation of the idea by designing material, maintenance and manufacturing 3MD.
