Opis:
This paper reports on two research projects, one completed and a partial follow-up study in the early stages of investigation. The first study investigated a range of factors that directly affect the quality of web-supported learning opportunities. The outcome of that study is a taxonomy of critical success factors for quality web-supported learning based on six categories: institutional factors, technical factors, pedagogical factors, instructional design factors, lecturer factors and student factors. The new study takes as starting point one of the categories of the taxonomy, namely lecturer factors. Using appropriate media effectively should be seen as part of the development of personal and teaching proficiencies. However the literature reveals that there remain various barriers to academics adopting learning technologies as a matter of course in their practice and that the uptake of institutional e-learning systems remains in the hands of enthusiasts. Academics need to be supported in investigating the use of appropriate technology to enhance and expand their teaching practices. A research study is underway at Oxford University (UK) to determine the level of uptake of the virtual learning environment, as well as the barriers and limitations that academic staff encounter in moving forward along the technology adoption curve (Moore, 1999).

The aim of this research is to analyze the extent of lecturers’ satisfaction with regard to the gap between the satisfaction experienced and what is expected. The sample in this study were lecturers at one of a Private Higher Education institution in Bandung, Indonesia. Sampling was done using simple random sampling techniques. This study uses the Focus Group Discussion method. The instrument test uses validity and reliability tests, and the data analysis used in this study is Importance and Performance Analysis. Referring to the results of data processing, it was found that there were 4 out of 27 indicators in Quadrant I where the lecturer felt that the existence of indicators was considered very important, while the level of performance was still not satisfactory. Indicators that are considered not yet optimum are the provision of communication channels between leaders and lecturers, daycare facilities, clean eating places/ food courts, and resources for research that is not yet optimum. The outcomes of this research are considered to give positive feedback and positive feed forward to the Private Higher Education regarding service programs oriented to employees.

Opis:
Aim: The aim of the paper is to present the possibility of using Kano method by a student to assess teaching staff's quality level. Design / Research methods: The research method encompassed the analysis of the subject-specific literature and the authors’ own research employing Kano questionnaire. The survey was carried out in November 2016. The lecturer characteristics from the student's point of view have been diagnosed, including their prioritization, which allowed for determining the teaching staff's quality level and student satisfaction with lecturers. The qualities requiring further development were indicated. Conclusions / findings: The study shows that university authorities should primarily provide lecturers with good theoretical knowledge and capable of defining clearly the student's obligations. Originality / value of the article: The authors recommend that higher education institutions use Kano questionnaire instead of traditional surveys for evaluation of teaching staff by students. Implications of the research: Kano questionnaire can be applied in a variety of branches and can relate to various products and services, with the aim to point to their qualitative characteristics which should be developed in particular and those which are immaterial to the customer. Limitations of the research (if applicable): The selection of elements for the sample was of a non-random character. Because of the subject matter dealt with by the authors in this paper, as well as due to limitations of space, only some of the results obtained were presented – the evaluation of lecturers. The survey also included other categories which – in the students’ opinions – are decisive regarding the quality of educational service, such as: organization of study courses, seminar timetable, facilitations, and infrastructure. Opis:
The Six Sigma originates from the manufacturing sector and Statistical Process Control. In the recent years Six Sigma has evolved into a business philosophy based on an organisational culture and managers’ commitment. The aim of this chapter is to show how the DMAIC model, which is at the heart of the Six Sigma method, can be used to improve the process of lecturer assessment. The results of the project showed that the methodologies of Six Sigma and DMAIC certainly require some simplification in institutions of higher education. This chapter discuss necessary modifications, the limitations of the applications of various statistical tools, character of collected data, and the way the data are collected and testing. Nevertheless, the presented project results indicate that they can be very useful in determining the causes of problems and solving problems occurring in numerous processes performed in universities. And in accordance with the principles of Lean and the PDCA method, it is only facts and data that should constitute a basis for making decisions.

Opis:
The purpose of the study was to gauge the flow of information from university lecturers to students. The fundamental hypothetical basis used for the study was that of agenda-setting theory – the idea that the mass media have a strong influence on the public agenda. The role of the university lecturer as a source of information and the influence of that information upon students and their agenda was the object of the study. The empirical study featured a panel of 248 Spanish university students and the results highlight the importance of the role of the university lecturer in channelling information to students even though findings demonstrate that the issues which are important for students (their agenda) may be less relevant for lecturers.

The article discusses desirable characteristics of a modern academic teacher. In the current discussion about the quality and necessary reform of higher education, the focus is on curricula, content and effects of education, along with financing and management of universities. Much less attention is given to the questions regarding personal and moral qualities of academic teachers. It is worth reflecting on and researching the desired characteristics of academics that would enable them to fulfil their social role.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present the idea of gamification of academic courses as well as strategies and tools for the game between the lecturer and students, thanks to which a cascading building-up of motivation to study actively will be possible. To achieve this goal, the article uses the concepts contained in the scientific literature devoted to the idea of gamification, the contents of student essays addressing the issue of effective ways to motivate an involved participation in classes and personal experience of the author of the article in applying the elements of games in the teaching process. The results of the deliberations presented in the article and the conclusions formulated on their basis draw attention primarily to the need to introduce innovations into the teaching of academic courses. Methodically properly designed courses, based on the idea of gamification, can fulfil the essential purpose of teaching, which is to stimulate involvement in the process of studying in the modern generation of students - a generation whose way of life is determined by the virtual space, saturation with stimuli, and the need to be noticed in a crowd. Usability of gamification, beyond the desire to develop in students the need for knowledge and understanding, also results from the possibility of building lasting social relations between the lecturer and students which can pay off, through tutor relations, with further cooperation in the realization of joint projects.
