Opis:: The pension system in its functioning and activity should be legitimized as an actual condition in performing specific tasks in accordance with the general requirements and expectations attributed to the pension system. In the case of institutions of the pension system, legitimacy should concern both the organization of the system itself ensuring the implementation of basic tasks, e.g. ensuring system security, guaranteeing the solvency of certain benefits, etc., as well as organizations at the level of individual institutions (public and private). The aim of the article is to analyze the issue of legitimizing the pension system from the point of view of institutions operating in the pension system. The article is teoretical and presents a model enabling understanding of the significant problem of legitimization against the background of functioning pension institutions. The study presents the adaptation of the conceptual (semantic) apparatus to the analysis of the legitimacy of the pension system.
System emerytalny w swoim funkcjonowaniu i działalności powinien cechować się legitymizacją jako faktycznym warunkiem w wykonywaniu określonych zadań zgodnych z ogólnymi wymogami i oczekiwaniami przypisywanymi systemowi emerytalnemu. W przypadku instytucji systemu emerytalnego, legitymizacja powinna dotyczyć zarówno samej organizacji systemu zapewniającego realizację podstawowych zadań, np. zapewnienie bezpieczeństwa działania systemu, gwarantowanie wypłacalności określonych świadczeń itp., jak też organizacji na poziomie poszczególnych instytucji (publicznych i prywatnych). Celem artykułu jest analiza zagadnienia legitymizacji systemu emerytalnego z punktu widzenia instytucji działających w systemie emerytalnym. Artykuł ma charakter teoretyczny i przedstawia model umożliwiający zrozumienie istotny problemu legitymizacji na tle funkcjonujących instytucji emerytalnych. Opracowanie przedstawia przystosowanie aparatu pojęciowego (znaczeniowego) do analizy legitymizacji systemu emerytalnego.

Opis:: Research objective: The aim of the article is to analyse selected sociological theories of legitimation. The research objective is to provide an answer to the question about the meanings and functions of legitimation in the process of the discursive construction of social order. The research problems and methods: Legitimation is analysed in the text both as a concept describing a specific state of social reality (static approach) and as a discursive strategy in which language plays a dominant role (dynamic approach). The main research method used in the text is a content analysis of selected sociological concepts of legitimation. The process of argumentation: The first part presents the meaning of legitimation in a static approach, which depends on the theoretical paradigm used. The second part presents an analysis of the interactionist-phenomenological concept of legitimation, which reveals its basic function as an element within the construction of social order. In the third part, legitimation is analyzed in a dynamic approach, as a discursive strategy that can significantly complement the diverse conglomerate of discourse theory. The conclusion emphasizes the role of legitimation in a situation of uncertainty and social crises. Research results: The study of the process of legitimation as an element responsible for the stability of the constructed social order is important especially in situations of community crisis, The most appropriate area for testing legitimation is discourse, and the research material would include articulations, meanings and language. Conclusions, innovations, and recommendations: Deepening the meaning of legitimation in sociological theories can contribute to their easier and fuller use in the study of specific research materials. This can contribute not only to a better understanding of sociological theories, but also deepen knowledge about the mechanisms that govern society.

Opis:: Childlessness in marriage is still socially defined as otherness. It is a deviation from the current cultural standard and – as a consequence – it requires explanation and legitimization, especially when the otherness is deliberate. The aim of the conducted qualitative research was to establish personal definitions of the situation of childlessness in marriage applied by persons aged 50 and older. The study focused on cultural patterns of experiencing and validating this non-standard lifestyle. 21 interviews centered on this issue were conducted. The analysis of the obtained data showed that the most important variables determining the model of experiencing childlessness in marriage by the subjects were the causes of childlessness and the significance of having children in their individual hierarchy of values. In each individual case, the way of experiencing childlessness results from the configuration of the recognized order of motivation and evaluation. It also seems that the order of evaluation is significant to the entire functioning of these persons. It is relatively independent from the objective cause of childlessness.

Opis:: The article describes changes in social awareness concerning social system, in particular the sphere of work. In theoretical dimension, the article refers to concept of social system and the perception of normative models: social, political, and economic. The empirical part presents the results of research into the field of social awareness, especially the awareness of members of a generation functioning in a liberal-democratic social system. The respondents were young residents of Warsaw with higher education. The research was carried out with a few-year time interval. The sphere of work is treated here as a key element of the wider social reality and included empirically through the individual orientation of the respondents in the normative models of society. In the light of research the sphere of work is clearly specific. In particular, the labour market regulations differs significantly from the reception of the remaining components of the social system.

Tytuł:: Class legitimacy and individual choice : an ethnographic study of Indian urban middle-class intimate relationships

Opis:: This chapter explores the reproduction and legitimization of class inequalities through intimate relationships. In my ethnographic fieldwork among the Indian urban middle class, I have learned that the focus of scholars and my informants is on a variety of relationships: arranged and love marriages, love-cum-arranged marriages (and vice versa), informal relationships, to name a few. To classify a relationship as a particular type, the nature of the choice is often assessed. These distinctions could provide food for thought for an important (system) structure-(individual) agency debate. However, I would like to depart from this debate and ask, instead, why do middle-class members find it necessary to mark their choices as truly autonomous and individual? (cf. Romanowicz, forthcoming). Scholars have paid attention to the role of elites and grassroots in various forms of inequality (Pardo and Prato, Querying urban inequalities. In: P. Italo and G. B. Prato (eds.), Urban Inequalities: Ethnographically Informed Reflections. New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2021) and legitimacy (Pardo and Prato, Legitimacy: Ethnographic and theoretical insights. New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2019). This chapter supplements these studies with a middle-class perspective. Ultimately, I conclude that the emphasis on "individual choice" aids governance, despite jarring levels of inequalities being maintained and perpetuated.

Opis:: The paper presents the results of a research project “Global study of the politicization of social networks.” According to the author, undermining the citizens’ trust in democratic institutions such as the parliament and political parties in various states leads not only to visible consequences – political absenteeism and social escapism, but also provokes a deeper process of the rapid politicization of Internet social networks. A content analysis of political discourse has been selected as the academic metho dology. The project has shown that in countries of various regions – from Europe to Latin America – there are pro-government, opposition, and moderately radical network communities. It is concluded that the politicization of modern networks is more conducive to the archaization and radicalization of social relations than strengthening the legitimacy of democratic regimes and constructive dialogue with the government of society. The most politicized social networks are Facebook and Twitter.
В работе публикуются итоги научного проекта – «Глобально- го исследования политизации социальных сетей». По мнению автора, подрыв доверия граждан различных государств к таким демократическим институтамкак партии и парламент приводит не только к видимым последствиям – политическому абсентеизму и общественному эскапизму, но и провоцирует более глубокий процесс стремительной политизации сообществ социальных сетей Интернета. В качестве научной методологии был избран контент-анализ политического дискурса. Проект показал, что в странах различных регионов – от Европы до Латинской Америки – существуют провластные, умеренно оппозиционные и радикальные сетевые сообщества. Сделан вывод, что политизация современных сетей пока больше способствует архаизации и радикализации социальных отношений, чем упрочнению легитимности демократических режимов и конструктивному диалогу общества с властью. Наиболее политизированными социальными сетями оказались Facebook и Twitter.

Opis:: The paper refers to the category of sports diplomacy and aims to investigate the issue of diplomatic subjectivity of international sports organizations, by the example of FIFA and its prerogative to grant membership to national football federations. Such processes on some occasions are connected to political and diplomatic significance, particularly in relation to states without universal international recognition, for whom participation in international sport is an important tool in their struggle for legitimization. The research question that the author attempts to answer is whether membership of national sports organization in the international sports federations can be meaningful from the perspective of the state’s endeavors toward securing international recognition. The hypothesis stated that the prerogative of international sports bodies such as FIFA to recognize national sports federations enhances their diplomatic subjectivity.

Opis:: Analiza semantyczna terminu „legitymizacja” jest zagadnieniem szczególnie doniosłym z uwagi na to, że ustalenie rozumienia tego terminu ma fundamentalne znaczenie dla dalszych rozważań nad tak ważnymi kwestiami, jak legitymizacja władzy sądowniczej czy pozycji ustrojowej sędziego. W doktrynie prawa konstytucyjnego brakuje pogłębionych analiz semantycznych, które pozwoliłyby na precyzyjną eksplikację tego, co myślą prawnicy, gdy używają terminu „legitymizacja”. Nawet pobieżna analiza literatury z tego zakresu pozwala na wyciągnięcie wstępnego wniosku, że w znacznej części rozpatrywanych spraw brak jest refleksji nad znaczeniem samego pojęcia „legitymizacja”. W niniejszym opracowaniu autor dokonał analizy definicji tego pojęcia, które pojawiają się w słownikach języka polskiego, a następnie skonfrontował ustalone znaczenia z rozumieniem „legitymizacji” w języku prawnym i prawniczym. We wnioskach autor wskazuje na dwa podstawowe sposoby rozumienia pojęcia „legitymizacja” i zaproponował ich rozróżnienie poprzez przypisanie jednemu z tych znaczeń terminu „legitymizacja”, a drugiemu „legitymacja”.
The semantic analysis of the term “legitimisation” is a particularly major issue, because determining the understanding of this term has a fundamental meaning for further considerations of such important issues as the legitimisation of the power, the judiciary or the systemic position of a judge. In the doctrine of the constitutional law there are lacks in-depth semantic analyzes that would allow a precise explication of what lawyers think when they use the term “legitimisation”. Even a cursory analysis of the literature in this field could allow us to draw a preliminary conclusion that when we discuss about this term, in a significant part of the cases considered, there is no reflection on the meaning of the concept of “legitimisation” itself. In this study, author analyzed definitions of this concept, which appears in the dictionaries of the Polish language, and then confronted the established meanings with the understanding of “legitimisation” in the legal and lawyers’ language. In conclusions, author points two basic ways of understanding the term “legitimisation” and proposed to distinguish them by assigning the phrase “legitimacy” to one of these meanings, and “legitimisation” to the other.
