Opis:
In the paper the factors that determine the implementation of innovations in the Polish machine tool industry were presented. As the three most important in authors mention there are: human factor, efficiency of knowledge transfer and economic aspects. Deficiencies found in all the above-mentioned areas make the innovativeness of Polish machine-tools not as expected, given the rich Polish traditions in this field.

Opis:
In the paper a short description of the identification method of parameters of machine tool supporting system dynamic models, constructed according to the rigid finite element method convention is given. The identification is carried out on the basis of selected points of the experimentally determined amplitude-frequency characteristics of tested machine tool. It is possible to identify the parameters of spring-damping elements which model slideway joints, lead screws, turntables and rolling blocs as well as the parameters of the object foundation on springdamping vibration isolators. Principal mathematical relationships of the identification algorithm are given. An example of practical use of this method for identifying selected parameters of FWD-32J type milling machine model is presented and discussed.
Podano podstawowe zależności matematyczne algorytmu identyfikacji oraz podano i omówiono przykład praktycznego wykorzystania metody do identyfikacji wybranych parametrów modelu układu nośnego frezarki FWD-32J.

Opis:
This paper presents a comparison of the impact of the programming methods of a CNC miller on the machining effects. As a part of the study, the test samples were made of the EN AW-2024 aluminium alloy. The CNC machining programs compared were developed with two programming methods: by inputting the CNC machining program directly from the CNC miller's control panel (machine level programming) and in a CAM software environment (CAM programming). The machining effect indicators adopted included: machining time, surface quality, and dimensional deviation of specific geometrical features. A measurement of the machining times revealed than the CAM programming reduced the machining time up to 20% from the machining time of the machine level programming. A conclusion stands valid that CNC machining programs developed in the CAM software environment are more efficient than CNC programming directly with the CNC miller control panel, most likely due to the machining path optimisation in CAM. In addition, given the experimental test results, it was found that smaller machined errors were also obtained for CAM programming. To conclude, the comparative analysis revealed that CAM programming provided better machining results than the machine level programming.

Opis:
The paper presents causes of excessive precision distortions, appearing in electrospindles of HSC machining centres. The influence of changing ambient temperature is shown, as well as the precision of its modelling. Phenomena, which appear in the electrospindle unit during large rotational speed changes, have been presented and the functioning of bearing loading sleeve has been shown, which has the task of compensating thermal expansions of a spindle. Conditions of proper functioning of the sleeve have been presented, which should assure minimal displacements of a spindle. Also, possibilities of increasing bearing life span have been pointed out.

Opis:
Usually machining centres for processing wood-based and composite materials have moving partial machine enclosures in the X-axis direction. Because the workpieces to be machined are often large (e.g. aircraft doors), these partial enclosures have prevailed on the market compared to voluminous complete enclosures. Owing to the general trend towards complete machining through process integration, an increasing number of additional units are integrated into machining centres in addition to the main spindle. This leads to an increase of the mass to be moved as well as a larger and thus heavier partial enclosure. This inevitable increase in mass leads to a deterioration of the dynamic properties of the machine. To counteract this increase in mass, the use of lightweight design materials for machine enclosures becomes in the focus of attention. The lightweight materials to be used must comply with the requirements of modern mechanical engineering and legislation: retention in the event of tool breakage, reduction in the noise exposure of the machine environment and cost-effective solutions compared to the materials used nowadays. The sheet steel used today as material for partial enclosures is therefore to be supplemented or replaced with suitable lightweight design materials. Different lightweight materials are qualified for suitability as machine enclosure. Apart from mass reduction, ecological as well as economic aspects of the used materials play an important role. For this purpose, the safety properties (impact resistance in case of tool breakage / collision) of these weight-reduced materials have to be determined. In addition, an improvement in the acoustic behaviour of the machine is achieved by the new lightweight materials since the machine enclosure shields the distinctive sound sources.

Opis:
Machine tools are the main driver of economic, environmental and social sustainability in industrial production. The ongoing shift from mass production to highly individualized, small batch manufacturing requires machine tools to be more flexible to changing needs while maintaining at least the same level of productivity. However, flexibility and productivity are at odds with the necessity for resource and energy efficiency. At the same time, more sophisticated workpiece specifications are pushing the boundaries regarding precision and dynamics of machine tools. In such a high-performance context, machine safety plays a major role and is becoming increasingly challenging due to higher kinetic energies of moving components. This paper examines recent advances in machine tool precision, sustainability, and safety. Six comprehensive case studies are provided to illustrate how these improvements contribute to an increased productivity. Hardware and software solutions for pose-controlled robotic manufacturing and thermoelectrically tempered high-performance spindles will be presented. Modular machine tool frames based on building blocks and an adaptive cooling system with thermoelectric generators for linear direct drives demonstrate their major impact on resource and energy efficiency. Machine safety is addressed through an analysis of potential hazards as well as improved protective measures. Model-based predictions precisely identify critical process parameters that lead to unbalance-induced failure of slim tool extensions, while on the protection side, new statistical models are applied to assess the protective performance of safeguards much more accurately. The cutting-edge technologies for machine tools presented in this paper will help manufacturers to cope with current and future challenges in industrial production.
