Opis:
This chapter deals with the process planning for sequencing NC (numerical control) machining operations. This task of selecting and ordering of machining operations is still done manually in principle. In order to overcome this problem, an approach for enabling the automatic preparation of work plans with methods known from the graph theory is introduced in this chapter. Therefore a work plan is mapped into a directed graph in a mathematically defined way. Based on that, it is possible to use algorithms to find the shortest path and a Hamiltonian path inside this directed graph as optimal sequenced solution under given requirements. Thus, the work plan is structured and re-ordered. Finally the corresponding NC machining code will be generated and distributed to the machinery.

Opis:
While autonomous driving has come close to reality over the recent years, machining is still characterised by many manual tasks and prone to costly errors. In this article, an overview is given about the potential of autonomous machining and uprising technologies that support this vision. For that purpose, a definition of autonomous machine tools and the required elements is presented. Next, selected elements of an autonomous machine tool, e.g. sensory machine components and control loops, are discussed. Finally, some insights into ongoing research projects regarding the use of machine learning for process planning and control are given.

Opis:
Reconfigurable Machine Tool (RMT) is the active issue to realize both the flexibility and productivity of manufacturing systems and satisfy the mass-customization production. The purpose of this paper is to present a RMT design methodology. Specifically, the part analysis and the RMT architectural modelling. The method of RMT design is focused on a simultaneous machining process using multi-spindle in a single RMT. Based on the concept of machining features, the process data, retrieved as a starting point in identifying various functions necessary to carry out a given part family, are displayed. Moreover, geometrical and kinematical architectures of RMT are defined as a result of the specification of all manufacturing processes of features to be machined. Where, all architectural solutions and the criterions related to select the suited solution are presented. Our methodology presents all activities allowing to pass from machining features of part to be machined to the structure of RMT.

Opis:
The focus of this paper is on process planning for large parts manufacture in systems of definite process capabilities, involving the use of multi-axis machining centres. The analysis of machining heavy mechanical components used in off-shore constructions has been carried out. Setup concepts applied and operation sequences determined in related process plans underwent studies. The paper presents in particular a reasoning approach to setup sequencing and machine assignment in manufacturing large-size components of offshore constructions. The relevant reasoning mechanism within a decision making scheme on generated process plan is shown based on a case study derived from the offshore sector. Recommendations for manufacture of selected exemplary and typical parts were formulated.

Opis:
The paper focuses on the algorithm for the recognition of manufacturing features defined in ISO 14649 (STEP-NC). First, the features defined in STEP-NC standard are discussed and then commonly used feature recognition methods are presented. Then the developed algorithm for recognition is presented in details starting with the discussion of STEP-NC features from the point of view of their recognition. The steps of the algorithm responsible for the recognition of profile based, transition and group features are presented. The software developed to verify the algorithm is also described. The final part includes the directions for the future research works. This paper adds to the works aimed to strengthen the position and use the full benefits of this new ISO 14649 standard.
