Opis:: The article compares old Czech printed advertisements (from the 30s of the 20,h centu- ry) with contemporary ones. Non-verbal means of expression were limited to black and white colours, various letter types and pictures (rather drawings than paintings and photo- graphs). Texts, written always in standard Czech, used mostly imperative, present tense, second person plural, third persons singular and plural, and various verbal and morpholo- gical means of intensification. Interested only in figures, the authors of old advertise- ments ignored tropes (frequent in contemporary ones), and they used rhyme rarely. Only several texts included slogan and company’s logo. The popular strategies were fear, experts' recommendation, company tradition and export of the product.

Opis:: The article examines the specifics of the of the graphic novel’s language by Ukrainian author Serhiy Zakharov “The Hole”, which is relevant because of the great interest of readers, writers and academia in the development of comics in world literature. The author analyses the role of verbal and graphic means of the work. Graphic novel is interpreted according to the scientific concepts of W. Eisner, J. Gardner, S. McCloud, R. Petersen, D. Stein and J.-N. Tone and others. Features of different genres synthesized in the work, namely novel, autobiography, chronicle, diary, memoirs, are revealed. It was found that the harmonious combination of text and graphic components (layout, frame, color, font) enhance the author’s picture of the world in which the characters act. We describe the linguistic features of the work, which are conditioned by S. Zakharov’s life experience in the occupied territory in Donetsk areas and which can be used in further studies of the national specificity of the graphic novel in Ukrainian literature.
Artykuł analizuje specyfikę języka powieści graficznej ukraińskiego autora Sergiusza Zakharova „Dziura”, co jest istotne ze względu na duże zainteresowanie czytelników, pisarzy i naukowców rozwojem malarstwa w literaturze światowej. Autorka artykułu analizuje rolę środków słownych i graficznych utworu. Powieść graficzna jest rozumiana zgodnie z naukowymi koncepcjami W. Eisnera, J. Gardnera, S. McClouda, R. Petersena, D. Steina i J.-N. Ton i inne. Ujawniają się cechy różnych gatunków zsyntetyzowanych w powieści, a mianowicie: powieść, autobiografia, kronika, pamiętnik, wspomnienia. Stwierdzono, że harmonijne połączenie elementów tekstowych i graficznych (układ, ramka, kolor, czcionka) wzbogaca autorski obraz świata, w którym znajdują się bohaterowie. Pewne cechy języka dzieła, a także doświadczenia z życia Sergiusza Zakharowa na okupowanym terytorium w obwodzie donieckim mogą posłużyć do sformułowania narodowej specyfiki powieści graficznej w literaturze ukraińskiej.

Opis:: In the most general terms, the Logical Connection Argument (LCA) states that theory and practice are two inseparable aspects of the same thing. Every action (or practice), linguistic or otherwise, is an indivisible unity of content and the means by which it is expressed. Alternatively, we may talk of the inseparability of content and form, meaning and act of expression, goal and method or means of its realization, and so forth. The argument was meant to prove that intentions cannot be treated as causes in social scientific explanation, but it did it at the cost of making any meta-analysis, and hence, critique, highly problematic. My position is that the LCA is indeed logical, and hence irrefutable. Nonetheless, we can distinguish between “raw” and “refined” versions of the argument. The refined version maintains that while ultimately and ideally, the content and means of expression presuppose one another in the sense that a content is inconceivable without a form, and vice versa, in reality there is never a perfect match between aims and methods. In typical circumstances, we do not have a precise sense of what we are doing; the meaning of our actions is gradually discovered in the course of exploratory behaviors, of which (immanent) critique is an indispensable part. In this contribution, I venture to examine the problem from a neuropsychological perspective with the view to showing in exactly what sense and to what extent explorative behaviors and associated motivations preside over other activities. I argue that content is always underdetermined with respect to its form (and vice versa), and hence the alleged internal connection between them is not a given, but rather amounts to a regulative principle which motivates mutual adjustments.

Opis:: The article deals with the different types of women and men in the Czech advertisements. The author starts from the premise that in order to increase the effectiveness of advertising, it is essential for advertisers to select suitable means of expression primarily on the basis of the needs or weaknesses of the target group (the segment of the population at which the product is mainly aimed, i.e. the group which is required to start buying the product), and in verbal terms, on the particular sociolect of the target group. The author’s research leads her to claim that it is actually the target group that plays the decisive role in the selection of advertising strategies. Women and men are not only target groups, but also useful models for visual and audiovisual advertising. The way in which people are used in advertising greatly reflects the stereotypes current in a particular society and at a particular time. In this sense advertising acts as a mirror of society - of its behaviours, value system, systems of relationships, and moral principles. The author analyses individual cases in which advertisers depict women and men. She classifies various types of women and men used in Czech mass media advertising, noting the verbal means, which differ depending on the target group.

Opis:: Le thème de l’amour occupe une place importante dans la poésie française pour les enfants, en prenant des aspects très divers. L’amour qui lie parents et enfants est le mieux représenté. Les poètes transmettent cet amour à l’aide de moyens d’expression variés : un lexique affectif, des noms hypocoristiques, le langage enfantin ; les tropes (la métaphore, la personnification, etc.) permettent d’exprimer les différentes facettes de l’amour. Les poètes s’inspirent des berceuses françaises traditionnelles. Les poèmes apprennent aux petits lecteurs à choyer leur famille, leurs amis, leur pays natal, la nature, les animaux, la vie. Ce lyrisme n’exclut pas que la poésie pour les jeunes soit empreinte d’humour et d’espièglerie. Pour évoquer les actions des enfants indisciplinés, les poètes recourent à un lexique argotique et familier. Le mélange des registres ajoute au charme de ces poèmes. Les différents visages de l’amour font l’objet d’une riche gamme de moyens d’expression qui reflètent toute la diversité des émotions et des sentiments.
The theme of love occupies an important place in contemporary French children’s poetry, being present in very different aspects. The best represented one is love between parents and children. Affective vocabulary, diminutives and childish language indicate a strong emotional interaction between mother and child; tropes (metaphors, personifications etc.) express different facets of love. Poets are sometimes inspired by traditional French lullabies. Full of love, poems teach little readers to appreciate their family, their friends, their homeland, nature, animals, and life. Lyricism, however, does not exclude humour and playfulness. Children love to play and to fool around, and to evoke their mischievous behaviour, poets often recur to slang and familiar vocabulary. The mixture of registers adds to the charm of the poems, whereas a wide range of expressive means reflects the diversity of emotions and feelings.

Opis:: Time is one of the main categories that affect human life. Various communities, nations or tribes perceive and understand time in a different way. In every case understanding of time determines the character of a particular culture.The purpose of this article is an attempt to show the concept of time as a part of the African reality revealed in the literary reportages by R. Kapuściński. The author of “Ebony”, through linguistic and stylistic material, creates a conception of time characteristic of the residents of the Black Continent. Understanding of time is one of the elements of reality in Africa which Kapuœciñski wanted to convey in the most accurate manner. But he knew that the reproducing of the African world is not possible,therefore, the image of time presented on the pages of “Ebony” was his personal perception of the phenomenon, the artistic creation where an objectively existing fragment of reality was filtered through the imagination of the author, his cognitive, intellectual and psychophysical abilities. Kapuściński, by means of linguistic and stylistic expressions, gave literary form to what he saw, heard and read about the African concept of time. First of all, in descriptions of time, the most prominent feature is the author’s tendency to build opposition. Kapuściński confronts two concepts of time: the African and the European. In this way he emphasizes the differences in understanding of the concept of time in both aforementioned cultures, and, at the same time, he highlights the characteristics of time typical to African culture. The accumulation of stylistic devices, unique use of words, selection of appropriate lexis and emphasizing the connotative value of words serve one purpose – to express difficult to convey aspects of African time.Thus, the individual author’s style contributes to the vision of African time, affects modeling of its meaning and imprints a profound, special influence on the actual image of time which is used as a base for a creative play both with imagination and a matter of language.

Opis:: The article explores the concept of the positive and negative obligations of the state in securing human rights, recognized in human rights literature, and in the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. The concept is then applied to show the importance of securing freedom of expression in regulating Internet access services and enforcing pertinent regulations in EU Member States. The author is of the opinion that economic arguments should not overshadow the need to secure the freedom of expression of the end-users of Internet access services.
L’article explore le concept des obligations positives et négatives de l’État en matière de défense des droits humains, reconnu dans la littérature sur les droits humains et dans les arrêts de la Cour européenne des droits de l’homme. Le concept est ensuite appliqué pour montrer l’importance de garantir la liberté d’expression dans la réglementation des services d’accès à Internet et dans l’application des réglementations pertinentes dans les États membres de l’UE. L’auteur est d’avis que les arguments économiques ne doivent pas occulter la nécessité de garantir la liberté d’expression des utilisateurs finals des services d’accès à Internet.

Opis:: Der vorliegende Beitrag berichtet darüber, mit welchen Ausdrucksmitteln das Vergleichen und das Gegenüberstellen im Deutschen und im Polnischen realisiert werden können. Im theoretischen Teil werden das Vergleichen und das Gegenüberstellen als kommunikative Verfahren der Sachverhaltsübermittlung dargestellt, denen sich auch eine Bewertungsfunktion im konkreten Situationszusammenhang zuschreiben lässt. In der Diskussion wird – in Übereinstimmung mit den Engelschen funktional‑kommunikativen Ansätzen in der Grammatik (z.B. Engel 1990, 2013) – von den Redeabsichten ausgegangen. Im empirischen Teil wird anhand konkreter Beispiele eine Übersicht erstellt, die Äußerungen nach den Redeabsichten (also dem, „was“ man sagen will) und nach den typischen sprachlichen Ausdrucksmitteln (dem, „wie“ man es sagen kann) beschreibt und diskutiert.
This study aims to show which words and grammatical structures can be used for comparing and contrasting in German and Polish. In the theoretical section, comparing and contrasting are presented as the communication tactics which can also reflect the evaluation of the language user of the facts s/he is speaking about. Speech intentions are the starting point here, according to the communicative‑functional approach to grammar (e.g. Engel 1990, 2013). In the empirical section, an overview is created by means of concrete examples, which shows and discusses statements according to the speech intentions (thus, the question will be asked as to “what” the speaker wants to say) and to the typical grammatical structures can be used (thus, “how” the speaker actually says it).
