Opis:
One of the trends in consumer behaviour that has been gradually gaining strength since the beginning of the 21st century is minimalism, also defined as anti-consumerism, voluntary simplicity and deconsumption. These notions are not identical, although, according to research, the conceptual scope is very approximate. Minimalism means deliberately limiting consumption to the rational sizes that result from the natural, individual, physical and mental characteristics of consumers, while emphasising responsible decision-making in this area. The most common expression of processes related to minimalism is mainly the limitations in quantitative and structural consumption. The aim of the article is to present the state of knowledge about minimalism in consumption on the basis of the analysis of the Polish literature on the subject and the results of scientific research. In the case of consumption, minimalism is compared with other concepts and described in terms of the various research fields of consumption. In the case of trends in consumer behaviour, the term is contrasted with deconsumption and voluntary simplicity. It is indicated as part of a lifestyle of sustainable consumption, and occurs when discussing food wastage as well as fashion. It should be noted that the given issues are related to each other, and their separation/separate treatment results from the adaptation of individual principles and rules by different groups of consumers depending on their own needs.

The aim of this article is a deep analysis of the selected aesthetic assumptions of architectural minimalism. The first part of the text presents the history of simplifying and unifying movements in art, especially in architecture. Opis:
Even though absurd humour and surreal scenes are at first sight the characteristic elements of Eric Chevillard’s style, it is an oversimplification to consider his novels as mere literary jokes. The appeal of this literature stems from the light and witty manner in which it transforms outdated novelistic conventions, deconstructs classic narrative strategies and refuses to fulfill the reader’s expectations. This article seeks to analyse minimal narration, an unusual mode of writing for Chevillard, in Oreille rouge: just like narrative excess, typical of his other works, it results in dematerialisation of the plot and redefinition of the novelistic structure.

Opis:
This article investigates Reza Servati’s Macbeth, an Iranian prize-winning adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, to discuss the way the adaptor prunes the source text aiming at presenting his distinctive reading of Shakespeare’s play. First, this study is concerned with the way Servati minimalizes the source text and how the process of minimalization serves the adaptor’s preoccupation with the psychological complexities of the characters. Second, it is discussed how Servati’s changes to the source text takes the Renaissance inclination for individualism a step forward. Third, it is argued that the individualism in Servati’s adaptation is aimed at Oedipalization of the play, an attempt that shows the influence of Freudian psychoanalysis. Finally, this article investigates the way Servati’s adaptation can be considered as an expressionist reworking of Shakespeare’s Macbeth by making the individualization of the plot subservient to the expression of the typical course that everyman goes through.

Opis:
Historical legacy, as an important constituent for the evaluation of the extent to which the past influences the present, sheds much light on some of the broader issues of the relation between the past and the present. One of the components of historical legacy is human food consumption habits. The domain of food consumption habits, in traditional Greek and Roman culture, contains a fairly noticeable diversity as it fluctuates between what seems to be two wide poles of dietary practices such as a simple diet, with the focus on minimalism and health and a luxury diet, with the focus on excess and extravagance. These poles, upon close analysis, have determined the dietary customs of antiquity while also formed a gastronomic identity. The impact of this historical legacy seems to have not only flavored Porphyry’s discussion of the nature of the philosopher’s diet in On Abstinence from Killing Animals but has also served in characterizing an advanced stage of minimalism in Greek and Roman food consumption habits.

Opis:
Stereotomy is originally known as an ancient traditional technique for precision cutting of stone. However, nowadays it is gaining new meaning as an architectural design process by subtracting unnecessary elements. The modern definition of stereotomy is a turning point in the perception of modern design, presenting the idea of subtraction rather than addition. Its revitalization as a corrective tool opens space for creating new structures, experimenting with materials and discovering new directions in the architecture of the future. Stereotomy began to play a supervisory role, ensuring the rationality of architecture. The presented examples of architects and buildings using the principle of stereotomy are examples of minimalist architecture. Characterized by the use of only elements necessary for the function or form of the architecture.

Zalewska J. i Cobel-Tokarska M. (2016), Rationalization of pleasure and emotions: The analysis of the blogs of Polish minimalists, Polish Sociological Review, 4(196): 495-512.
Opis:
In this paper, we focus on consumption practices reflected on blogs of Polish minimalists. We analyzed 16 top blogs of the minimalists present in the Polish blogosphere. The objective of the minimalists is to consume less and live simple life without the excess of material objects. We studied the instructions of everyday conduct which the minimalists give on their blogs, as well as the meanings they assign to their practices: their personal stories of becoming a minimalist and statements of their values. The authors belong to one generation—their childhood took place in the times of the shortage economy in the 1980s. This influenced the whole trajectory of their lives and their consumer choices. To interpret their practices we use the categories of rationalization of Max Weber and modern hedonism of Colin Campbell. It appears that minimalists strive for reaching certain emotional states, e.g. peace and wellbeing they imagine, in line with the theory of modern hedonism. A path to those emotional states consists of rationalization of all the temporary, impulse-based pleasures and control over emotions involved in consumption.

Opis:
Jan Krasnowolski: minimalism and declassationBorrowing tools from Pierre Bourdieu's theory of class struggle, the authors of the article analyze strategies of declassation on the example of the biography of the writer Jan Krasnowolski, and study the effects of this decision on both his texts and the construction of his image. The process of class change, of going from the privileged position of intelligentsia to the position of the working class, is presented as a kind of conscious (in a way also esthetic) choice, motivated by factors like the will to acquire new experience that is inaccessible to the higher classes. The authors of the article analyze literary texts by Krasnowolski (consistent minimalism as opposed to sublime excess; masculine, stereotypically presented topics), their adherence to genres (lad lit, a kind of literature for men), as well as the author's interviews and statements, and paratexts like biographical notes on the covers of books. Other tools used for the analysis of the phenomenon of declassation include the findings of the empirical research on classes in Polish society after 1989 conducted by Maciej Gdula.

Opis:
The paper aims to show the ecopoetic potential of minimalist poems, in which the lyrical subject remains out of sight. The text discusses poetic techniques of drawing  a bare picture of reality, which have the capacity to enact a novel, non-anthropocentric approach to non-human nature. The author combines interpretive practice with the concept of ecopoetics and literary genology.
