Opis:
Mobile, personal devices are getting more capable every year. Equipped with advanced sensors, mobile devices can use them as a viable platform to implement and test more complex algorithms. This paper presents an energy-efficient person localization system allowing to detect already visited places. The presented approach combines two independent information sources: wireless WiFi adapter and camera. The resulting system achieves higher recognition rates than either of the separate approaches used alone. The evaluation of presented system is performed on three datasets recorded in buildings of different structure using a modern Android device.

Opis:
The paper describes a system designed to manage and collect data from the network of heterogeneous sensors. It was implemented using Erlang OTP and CouchDB for maximum fault tolerance, scalability and ease of deployment. It is resistant to poor network quality, shows high tolerance for software errors and power failures, operates on flexible data model. Additionally, it is available to users through an Web application, which shows just how easy it is to use the server HTTP API to communicate with it. The whole platform was implemented and tested on variety of devices like PC, Mac, ARM-based embedded devices and Android tablets.

Opis:
Computer technologies are widely used by students of any level of education. In the broad range of computer hardware mobile devices deserve special attention. They offer a number of benefits to students including the possibility of making editable notes, searching for information on line, communicating quickly and effectively or accessing multimedia materials. Due to the size of those devices the students can easily use them during classes. The study reported was done on a relatively large group of students (503) from students of the Faculty of Production Engineering of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Poland. Its main goal was to establish students’ use of mobile devices in the educational processes, and in particular during formal classes (lectures, tutorials and lab experiments). The key finding was that above 90% of students used mobile devices during classes. The most popular mobile device was a notebook (used by 80% of students), followed by a smartphone (71%) and tablet (17%). The most popular activity was making calculations related to attended courses.

Opis:
Context-aware computing is a paradigm that relies on the active use of information coming from a variety of sources, ranging from smartphones to sensors. The paradigm usually leads to storing large volumes of data that need to be processed to derive higher-level context information. The paper presents a cloud-based storage layer for managing sensitive context data. To handle the storage and aggregation of context data for context-aware applications, Clouds are perfect candidates. But a Cloud platform for context-aware computing needs to cope with several requirements: high concurrent access (all data needs to be available to potentially a large number of users), mobility support (such platform should actively use the caches on mobile devices whenever possible, but also cope with storage size limitations), real-time access guarantees – local caches should be located closer to the end-user whenever possible, and persistency (for traceability, a history of the context data should remain available). BlobSeer, a framework for Cloud data storage, is a perfect candidate for storing context data for large-scale applications. It offers capabilities such as persistency, concurrency and support for flexible storage schema requirement. On top of BlobSeer, Context Aware Framework is designed as an extension that offers context-aware data management to higherlevel applications, and enables scalable high-throughput under high-concurrency. On a logical level, the most important capabilities offered by Context Aware Framework are transparency, support for mobility, real-time guarantees and support for access based on meta-information. On the physical layer, the most important capability is persistent Cloud storage.

Opis:
The authors address the problem of passive navigation in large buildings. Based on the example of several interconnected buildings housing departments of the Lublin University of Technology, as well as the conceptual navigation system, the paper presents one of the possible ways of leading the user from the entrance of the building to a particular room. An analysis of different types of users is made and different (best for them) ways of navigating the intricate corridors are proposed. Three ways of user localisation are suggested: RFID, AR and QR markers. A graph of connections between specific rooms was made and weights proposed, representing “the difficulty of covering a given distance”. In the process of navigation Dijkstra’s algorithm was used. The road is indicated as multimedia information: a voice-over or animated arrow showing the direction displayed on the smart phone screen with proprietary software installed. It is also possible to inform the user of the position of the location in which he currently is, based on the static information stored in the QR code.

Opis:
In this article, we present an idea of combining social networking websites and modern mobile devices abilities to transfer social networking activity to a higher level. Nowadays, these devices and websites are used to offer ability of remote communication (phone calls, message exchange etc.), which potentially can be used to notify people about meetings in the real world. Since the current social network models do not provide enough information for such notification (social networking websites are examples of social networks) a new social network model that will be suitable for the above mentioned application is proposed and a new social platform that base on mobile devices is introduced. This platform can notify users when their friends are nearby. The paper presents the model and the simulation that verifies the approach.

Opis:
The growing performance of low-cost mobile devices makes it possible to perform advanced processing on mobile sensors. This creates the need to building a management system for groups of sensors actively analyzing signals fromhardware devices. In this paper, an architecture of a CouchDB-Based Sensor Management Platform is presented and its application for the problem of finding stolen cars is shown. Detailed performance tests of the platform as well as its application are provided.

Opis:
Using mobile devices such as smartphones or iPads for various interactive applications is currently very common. In the case of complex applications, e.g. chess games, the capabilities of these devices are insufficient to run the application in real time. One of the solutions is to use cloud computing. However, there is an optimization problem of mobile device and cloud resources allocation. An iterative heuristic algorithm for application distribution is proposed. The algorithm minimizes the energy cost of application execution with constrained execution time.

Opis:
In this paper we introduce the BIRAFFE data set which is the result of the experiment in affective computing we conducted in early 2019. The experiment is part of the work aimed at the development of computer models for emotion classification and recognition. We strongly believe that such models should be personalized by design as emotional responses of different persons are subject to individual differences due to their personality. In the experiment we assumed data fusion from both visual and audio stimuli both taken from standard public data bases (IADS and IAPS respectively). Moreover, we combined two paradigms. In the first one, subjects were exposed to stimuli, and later their bodily reactions (ECG, GSR, and face expression) were recorded. In the second one the subjects played basic computer games, with the same reactions constantly recorded. We decided to make the data set publicly available to the research community using the Zenodo platform. As such, the data set contributes to the development and replication of experiments in AfC.
