Opis:
The business structure and process development in many modern companies is assisted by architectures, frameworks, and a new generation of computer systems with a broad representation of methods and tools of design and modelling, i.e. object-oriented, event-oriented, activity-oriented, process-oriented, agent-oriented, communication-oriented, behaviour-oriented, etc. are recommended. The aim of this paper is to compare micro- vs. macro scope modelling and to investigate the relevance of micro- and/or macro simulation in the context of business process management (BPM) modelling for organizational design/redesign. The BPM modelling features and some specific issues of simulation modelling are discussed. Combined with BPM modelling methodologies, these issues are used to drive a concept for development of an integrated methodology for BPM models’ building and simulation approach in organizational BPM design/redesign projects.

Opis:
The paper deals with the problem of modelling of different types of damages in metallic and composite structures. The modelling of damage and fracture plays an important role in design and implementation of Structural Health Monitoring systems, particularly it is very important in prognosis of the rest of safe life of structures. The authors overview and analyse the existing methods and available tools of damage and fracture modelling. The application of selected models for structure damage and fracture modelling in macro and micro scale simulations is the main subject of this paper. Two groups of models are considered; the first group consists of models capable of predicting brittle fracture, second – models used for ductile damage evaluation. In the latter group, macro and multiscale models are presented. Finally, the multiscale damage model based on a representative volume element is presented. The grain structure modelling and its FE implementation are discussed in conjunction with application of ductile damage criterion for grain structures. Several numerical examples are presented.

Opis:
Developments in construction engineering (new materials, construction techniques) facilitate the design of very flexible, light structures with low damping which unfortunately results in higher susceptibility of these structures to wind action. It is therefore necessary to use more accurate scientific tools in the engineering phase of these structures. Analytical methods for considering wind effects on structures encounter difficulties with respect to mathematical formulations of aerodynamic forces. In this paper a 2D numerical model has been described which considers the fluid domain with respect to a cylindrical obstacle. This 2D model has been discretized using the finite volume method, and numerical simulations have been undertaken in order to describe the unsteady flow conditions within the analyzed domain. The simulations have been performed with boundary conditions characterizing the flow past a cylindrical obstacle. The results have been compared with the literature data from similar experiments. On the basis of the flow characteristics obtained, as well as the spatial distributions of the flow parameters, a model for further 3D analyses was selected. Next, a 3D numerical study of unsteady flow forces acting on a slender cylinder has been analyzed. Toward the end, a two-way fluid solid interaction approach has been utilized, which incorporates a computational fluid dynamics approach combined with computational solid dynamics.

Opis:
Workflow of 3D static reservoir modelling, with the emphasis on the different types of data integration is discussed in the paper. The example of two-stage integration of geophysical (seismic and well log), petrophysical, sedimentological and reservoir engineering data within a framework of 3D static reservoir models is given. The main goal of the first stage of data integration is to obtain consistent well profiles of reservoir parameters such as: porosity, permeability, facies, water saturation. For that purpose the example of use of the following data types were presented: well logs, lab data, sedimentological interpretation, well tests and mud logging results. The second stage includes construction of structural model, defining the geometry of analyzed geological object, facies/lithological modelling; calibration of facial and petrophysical well profiles with 3D seismic, usually represented by results of seismic inversion, seismic attributes and meta-attributes and finally, the calculation of the spatial distribution of analyzed reservoir properties.

Opis:
Bisphenol A (BPA) is one of the best studied industrial chemicals in terms of exposure, toxicity, and toxicokinetics. This renders it an ideal candidate to exploit the recent advancements in physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling to support risk assessment of BPA specifically, and of other consumerrelevant hazardous chemicals in general. Using the exposure from thermal paper as a case scenario, this study employed the multi-phase multi-layer mechanistic dermal absorption (MPML MechDermA) model available in the Simcyp® Simulator to simulate the dermal toxicokinetics of BPA at local and systemic levels. Sensitivity analysis helped to identify physicochemical and physiological factors influencing the systemic exposure to BPA. The iterative modelling process was as follows: (i) development of compound files for BPA and its conjugates, (ii) setting-up of a PBPK model for intravenous administration, (iii) extension for oral administration, and (iv) extension for exposure via skin (i.e., hand) contact. A toxicokinetic study involving hand contact to BPAcontaining paper was used for model refinement. Cumulative urinary excretion of total BPA had to be employed for dose reconstruction. PBPK model performance was verified using the observed serum BPA concentrations. The predicted distribution across the skin compartments revealed a depot of BPA in the stratum corneum (SC). These findings shed light on the role of the SC to act as temporary reservoir for lipophilic chemicals prior to systemic absorption, which inter alia is relevant for the interpretation of human biomonitoring data and for establishing the relationship between external and internal measures of exposure.

Opis:
Detailed studies of the movement of liquid steel (hydrodynamics) on a real object are practically impossible. The solution to this problem are physical modelling carried out on water models and numerical modelling using appropriate programs. The method of numerical modelling thanks to the considerable computing power of modern computers gives the possibility of solving very complex problems. The paper presents the results of model tests of liquid flow through tundish. The examined object was model of the twonozzle tundish model. The ANSYS Fluent program was used to describe the behavior of liquid in the working area of the tundish model. Numerical simulations were carried out using two numerical methods of turbulence description: RANS (Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes) – model k-ε and LES (Large Eddy Simulation). The results obtained from CFD calculations were compared with the results obtained using the water model.

Opis:
The paper presents design and implementation of computer system dedicated to simulation of production cycles based on the rolling processes. The main functionality of the computer system, i.e. support and facilitation of flat rolling technology design, is obtained through flexible interface combined with the modular architecture of numerical library and optimization procedures. Each production cycle (e.g. heating, rolling, cooling, coiling) is prepared to be calculated separately and finally integrated into the sophisticated production cycle. The architecture of designed software as well as models used for numerical calculations are described in details. The system was tested for various configurations of rolling mills. Three of them together with obtained results are presented in the paper: complex production cycle (roughing and finishing rolling), finishing rolling composed of seven passes and laboratory case study.

Opis:
The damage mechanics is a very important branch of solid mechanics. Although it is still developing, it has already been applied to many engineering problems. Among many various types of damage models, which are commonly used, the main subject of this paper is the isotropic continuous damage in viscoplastic flow conditions. This paper include Information about the viscoplastic type of constitutive modelling, the presentation of mechanical representation of damage by the scalar variable D, effective stress concept, equations of the chosen isotropic damage model, the Chaboche viscoplastic constitutive model including damage effects and the identification procedure of damage material parameters with practical example. The chosen constitutive model is easy to apply to the finite element analysis. Using the MSC.Marc system, which great advantage is possibility ofa user subroutine application, the geometry nonlinear finite element analysis of plate and shell structures including damage is possible. This paper includes description of the applied program and user subroutines applied: UVSCPL - viscoplastic modelling (the standard MSC.Marc system supports the Chaboche model, but not in the damage variant) and UACTIV - deactivation of finite elements. The last part of the paper includes the practical numerical example of a clamped bar of 0.3 m long and 0.1x0.01 m cross-section size. In calculations the four-node thin-shell, divided into five layers, elements were used. dynamic, geometrically nonlinear analysis using Newmark integration algorithm has been performed. As the results, screen shots of displacements with maps of damage parameter for the bar infour time moments are presented.
