Bohaterowie tych powieści ulegają osobom wpływowym, angażując się w politykę. W rezultacie, Percy Munn i Jeremiah Beaumont stają przed moralnymi dylematami związanymi z sytuacją polityczną. Milton Loftis w "Lie Down in Darkness" czuje się zwolniony z jakiejkolwiek odpowiedzialności za swoje czyny szukając w uczuciu do córki rekompensaty za oziębłość żony. Dopiero po samobójstwie córki, Milton zdaje sobie sprawę ze swej winy. "Sophie’s Choice" Williama Styrona przedstawia głębokie poczucie winy bohaterki wywołane przez wybór, którego musiała dokonać w Auschwitz, próbując ratować jedno ze swoich dzieci. Robert Penn Warren wiąże decyzje podejmowane przez bohaterów z sytuacją polityczną, podczas gdy William Styron skupia się na osobistej motywacji bohaterów.
The aim of the present thesis was to analyze the moral choices made by the protagonists of the selected novels by Robert Penn Warren and William Styron. The characters presented by both novelists face moral dilemmas, their motivation varies considerably.In all of the selected novels written by Robert Penn Warren, the protagonists’ motivation is inextricably connected with the given political situation. The action of two of his novels takes place in Kentucky as "Night Rider" describes the early 20th century Kentucky Tobacco Wars, while "World Enough and Time" is based on the “Kentucky Tragedy,” a famous murder trial of the 19th century. The protagonists of both of these novels suffer from yielding to the powerful and the involvement in the political struggle. As a result, Percy Munn and Jeremiah Beaumont face moral dilemmas connected and often caused by the political situation. Similarly, "All the King’s Men" describes moral decisions politically motivated. Political strategy of governor Stark influences the life of Jack Burden. His cooperation with the governor and Burden’s political involvement result in his moral problems. However, contrary to Percy Munn, Jack Burden learns from experience and realizes that he cannot concentrate on revenge but assumes responsibility for his actions. "Lie Down in Darkness" and "Set This House on Fire" by William Styron focus on moral choices made by Milton Loftis and Cass Kinsolving. "Set This House on Fire" presents a man whose crime is stimulated by the news about a wronged woman. Shocked and overwhelmed by anger, Cass commits murder. Milton Loftis in "Lie Down in Darkness" seeks in his daughter the affection that his wife refuses to give him, which leads to Peyton’s destruction. William Styron’s "Sophie’s Choice" describes the main character’s ordeal caused by the decision she had made in Auschwitz to save one of her children and send the other to death. Robert Penn Warren provides his characters with social and political background while William Styron focuses on the personal motivation of the characters.

It is a social phenomenon which interferes with prompt bizzare areas of life. Without ethics, respect for human beings and respect for the fundamental rights can not be expected to succeed in life. Morality can be characterized as social phenomenon that reflects human relationships and human activities in terms of good and evil. The moral problem is wherever a person in a daily struggle for existence is responsible for their actions. Therefore, one necessarily expects total remuneration for their morally good, free volitiona, decision, reward, whose impact extends beyond its currently. What are the key values and principles in nursing? Choosing values that are generally and most experts considered crucial, is quite complex and depends of multiple factors. We are talking about autonomy, utility, fairness, trustworthiness, truthfulness, and harmlessness. The aim of the European Charter of Patients' Rights to ensure a high level of human health. Authors pay attention in this allowance to shame, because the hospital is not the time to respect the sick. Embarrassment or shame or a sense of shame is (negative) feeling, knowing error, bad faith or any other personal deficiency.

MORAL PROBLEMS AS DRAMATIZED IN THE CHARACTERS OF ANGELO AND ISABELLA IN SHAKESPEARES MEASURE FOR MEASURE

Opis:: The objective of this thesis is a discussion of the problem of morality in Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, with particular reference to the matter of sexual morality concerning the main characters in the context of the general human struggle with morality. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is devoted to a general critical reception of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure; it presents critics' endeavour both to classify the play to a specific genre (with particular emphasis on the comic resolution of the play – marriage as a solution to sexual problems) and to determine whether it should be defined as a secular or religious work. A discussion of the problem of justice which is treated as a basis for the further analysis, as well as an attempt to interpret the ambiguous phenomenon of morality are also included here.The main concern of the following two chapters is an analysis of the three main characters of Measure for Measure with an attempt at presenting the importance of a balanced implementation of justice (both individual and the one represented by authority) with a special attention to the essential role of charity. Chapter II is devoted to the reading of the Duke whose dubious character and multiple roles in the play provoke the question of what it means to be a good judge. Chapter III focuses mainly on the attitudes of Angelo and Isabella to the ubiquitous sin of fornication and the inconsistency of their behaviour in relation to the problem. The discussion of the problem of morality in Measure for Measure leads to the reflection on the vocation of man in view of an equilibrium between the spiritual and corporeal aspects of human nature.
Celem niniejszej pracy było omówienie problemu moralności na podstawie dzieła Szekspira pt. Miarka za Miarkę, w odniesieniu do kwestii moralności seksualnej, która nie dotyczy wyłącznie mieszkańców Wiednia przedstawionych w sztuce, ale przede wszystkim będący powszechnym problemem z jakim ludzkość zmaga się od wieków. Niniejsza praca podzielona jest na trzy rozdziały. Pierwszy rozdział teoretyczny głównie poświęcony jest podsumowaniu krytycznego odbioru sztuki Szekspira oraz pokazaniu prób przypisywania tego dzieła do konkretnego gatunku literackiego (ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem elementów komicznych zawartych w zakończeniu – małżeństwo jako rozwiązanie problemu seksualnego) oraz debacie nad klasyfikacją dzieła jako świeckie lub religijne. W tej części zawarte jest zarówno wprowadzenie do dyskusji nad problemem sprawiedliwości, które służy za podstawę do dalszej analizy przewrotnej natury ludzkiej, jak i próba zdefiniowania jakże wieloznacznego pojęcia moralności. Pozostałe dwa rozdziały stanowią praktyczną część pracy i traktują o tym jak ogromne znaczenie mają wyważone argumenty w kwestii wymierzania sprawiedliwości (zarówno tej indywidualnej jak i stosowanej przez władze), w kontekście stosowania miłosierdzia w tej kwestii. Rozdział II poświęcony jest problemowi sprawiedliwości w odniesieniu do Księcia, którego podejrzana osobowość i zróżnicowana rola w sztuce skłaniają do refleksji nad tym jak być dobrym sędzią. Rozdział III skupia się głównie na interpretacji postawy Angela i Izabeli wobec wszechobecnego grzechu cudzołóstwa oraz na braku konsekwencji jaki przejawiają w związku z tym problemem. Rozważanie nad problemem moralności w Miarce za miarkę Szekspira prowadzi do refleksji nad tym do czego tak naprawdę powołany jest człowiek w świetle pożądanej równowagi między duchowością a cielesnością człowieka.

Opis:: 15 months after the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers there is time to specify moral problems connected with the ﬁnancial crisis 2008–2009. The basis for this was daily monitoring of business pages in the world press. 25 years of my experience in ethics and especially business ethics made it possible to apply ethics instruments to analysis of the crisis. First a controversy about normative function of ethics between relativist and orthodox cognitivism was presented. Two kind of problems have been distinguished: (1) dilemmas, or problems, which do not have one solution, (2) problematic situations, in which moral norms were violated. The discussed problems comprise: moral limitation in risk creation, corporate problems of banks, dilemmas of state support. The conclusion, advocated in many papers, claims that without the moral self regulation based on ethical rules no legal regulations will prevent new crises.

Opis:: This master's thesis deals with the problem of capital punishment. The work is divided into 5 chapters. The first one deals with the origins and history of the death penalty. Its origins and development in the ancient period in selected countries are discussed. The second chapter is about the history of the death penalty in Poland, from the medieval period until the abolition. The third is devoted to a discussion of the issue of the death penalty in the modern world - how many executions are carried out today, in how many countries they are carried out, the subject of human rights violations in its adjudication is also addressed. Also included are the author's charts and tables summarizing the issues discussed. The fourth chapter consists of surveys addressed to prominent legal theorists and practitioners from the United States. Eight respondents answered, expressing their opinions and raising arguments for and against the death penalty. Questions were asked on the effectiveness of the death penalty as a deterrent to crime, the cost of its imposition and execution, and whether it should be banned worldwide. The final chapter was devoted to several issues. The question of whether the death penalty is an effective deterrent to crime was discussed. Then the opinions of Polish politicians and whether they are for or against it were presented. Finally, examples of wrongful death sentences in the United States and the period of change in the laws regarding its implementation on the territory of the aforementioned country, which has led to numerous cases of acquittals of convicts awaiting their sentences on , "death row", were addressed.
Niniejsza praca dotyczy problemu kary śmierci. Praca została podzielona na 5 rozdziałów. Pierwszy z nich dotyczy genezy i historii kary śmierci. Omówione zostały jej początki i rozwój w okresie starożytności w wybranych państwach. Drugi rozdział jest o historii kary śmierci w Polsce, od okresu średniowiecza aż do abolicji. Trzeci poświęcony został omówieniu zagadnienia kary śmierci we współczesnym świecie - ile egzekucji jest wykonywanych współcześnie, w jak wielu państwach są one dokonywane, poruszona została również tematyka łamania praw człowieka przy jej orzekaniu. Załączone zostały także autorskie wykresy i tabele podsumowujące omawiane zagadnienia. Czwarty rozdział składa się z ankiet skierowanych do wybitnych teoretyków i praktyków prawa ze Stanów Zjednoczonych. Odpowiedzi udzieliło 8 respondentów, wyrażając swoje opinie i podnosząc argumenty za i przeciwko karze śmierci. Zadane zostały pytania w przedmiocie efektywności kary śmierci jako czynnika odstraszającego od popełniania przestępstw, kosztów jej orzeczenia i wykonania oraz czy powinna być zakazana na całym świecie. Ostatni rozdział został poświęcony kilku zagadnieniom. Omówione zostało kwestia tego czy kara śmierci jest skutecznym czynnikiem zapobiegającym popełnianiu przestępstw. Następnie przedstawiono zdania polskich polityków i tego czy są za czy przeciw niej. Na koniec poruszono przykłady niesłusznych skazań na karę śmierci w Stanach Zjednoczonych oraz okres zmiany przepisów odnośnie jej wykonywania na terenie wyżej wskazanego państwa, co doprowadziło do licznych przypadków uniewinnień skazanych oczekujących na swoje wyroki w ,,celach śmierci''.

Cycles of literature for youth and the perception of moral values among students of the eighth grade of primary school

Opis:: The work is devoted to the cycles of literature for young people and the perception of moral values by pupils of the eighth grade of primary school. In the first part, the author presents the understanding of values from different perspectives and changes in the way they are perceived and defined in social discourse and literature. The role of literature in the didactic and educational process was also discussed. The author proposed literary texts, which constitute her proposal for conversations with students in the context of life values. The second part of the paper presents the results of surveys, which show what is most important in life for current eighth graders, what problems they have to face and how they define their authorities. The author also proposed three lesson scenarios that deal with important topics for current youth and are based on intervention and problem texts, so that students could propose their ideas and solutions. These proposals form the third part of this work.
Praca poświęcona jest cyklom literatury dla młodzieży oraz postrzeganiu wartości moralnych przez uczniów klas ósmych szkoły podstawowej. W pierwszej części autorka przedstawia ujęcie wartości w różnych perspektywach oraz zmiany, jakie nastąpiły w sposobie ich postrzegania i definiowaniu w dyskursie społecznym i literaturze. Omówiona została także rola literatury w procesie dydaktyczno-wychowawczym. Autorka zaproponowała teksty literackie, stanowiące jej propozycję do rozmów z uczniami w kontekście życiowych wartości. W drugiej części pracy zostały przedstawione wyniki badań ankietowych, które pokazują, co dla obecnych ósmoklasistów jest najważniejsze w życiu, z jakimi problemami muszą się mierzyć oraz jak definiują oni swoje autorytety. Autorka zaproponowała również trzy scenariusze lekcji, które dotyczą ważnej dla obecnej młodzieży tematyki i są oparte o teksty interwencyjne i problemowe, aby uczniowie mogli proponować swoje pomysły i rozwiązania. Propozycje te stanowią trzecią część niniejszej pracy.
