Opis:
Prioritisation of sub-watersheds (SWs) is becoming increasingly important in the conservation of natural resources, particularly in watershed planning. In this study, sub-watershed for the Neyyar basin was prioritised using three methods: morphometric analysis, principal component analysis (PCA) and hypsometric analysis. Morphometric analysis and hypsometric analysis were carried out using remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) techniques, while PCA was performed for dimensionality reduction of morphometric parameters. The watershed was divided into 11 sub-watersheds (SW1–SW11), and each sub-watershed was given priority. To rank and prioritise SWs, 15 morphometric parameters were selected from the quantitative measures of morphometric analysis, including linear, relief, and areal. PCA was used to rank and prioritise SWs based on three highly correlated morphometric parameters. The hypsometric integral (HI) values were determined using the elevation relief ratio approach, and HI values were utilised to prioritise SWs. For both methods, such as morphometric analysis and PCA, a higher priority has been given to SW1. Using hypsometric analysis, higher priorities have been assigned to SW1, SW7, SW8, SW9, SW10 and SW11. The most common SWs that belong to the same priority of SWs and have a high correlation between them among the three methods are SW1, SW2, and SW5.The results of this analysis indicate that SW1 is a common high priority area with a significant risk of soil erosion, runoff and peak discharge. Therefore, decision-makers may utilise the high-priority sub-watershed to guide planning and development, measure conservation efforts and manage the land to prevent.

Morphometry and distribution of Senecio nemorensis agg. species (Asteraceae) in Poland
Autorzy:

Opis:
A morphometric analysis based on 316 herbarium specimens of Senecio nemorensis agg. indicated the occurrence of the following four species in Poland: S. germanicus Wallr., S. hercynicus Herborg, S. ovatus (G. Gaertn. et al.) Willd. and S. ucranicus Hodálová. Principal component analysis (PCA), analysis of variance (ANOVA)/Kruskal-Wallis test and canonical discriminant analysis (CDA) were applied. Quantitative characters such as supplementary bract length, leaf base width, ligule length and the supplementary/involucral bract length ratio clearly discriminated taxa within S. nemorensis agg. Included is a distribution map of the investigated species based on the examined material, with particular emphasis on the course of the northeastern boundary of S. hercynicus and the northwestern boundary of S. ucranicus. Also given is a determination key for species within S. nemorensis agg. in Poland, together with morphological descriptions of particular species.

Opis:
The area between Western Anatolia and Isparta Bend comprises numerous depressions and the active faults that bound them. The Hoyran Graben is one of these depressions, located at the northernmost part of the Isparta Bend. This NE-SW-oriented graben is bounded by the Hoyran Fault in the northwest and the Uluborlu, Senirkent and Kumdanlı faults in the south-east, respectively. We evaluate the seismic activity potential among segments of the boundary faults in the light of fieldwork and morphometric indices. These boundary faults of the Hoyran Graben are divided into twelve segments for the analysis, with indices used including mountain-front sinuosity (Smf: 1.05-2.02), valleyfloorwidth-to-valiey height ratio (Vf: 0.11-1.34), hypsometric curve and integral (Hi: 0.4-0.73), asymmetry factor (Af: 13.76-87.03), stream length-gradient (SL: 1.48-9450) and normalized channel steepness (Ksn: 2.38-990.38). The results obtained, together with field observations, indicate that the Uluborlu, Senirkent and Kumdanlı faults, as well as the western segments of the Hoyran Fault, represent higher potential in terms of seismic activity with uplift rates >0.5 mm/y, while the central and eastern segments show moderate activity with uplift rates between 0.05 and 0.5 mm/y. Thus, the boundary faults of the Hoyran Graben need further attention in terms of regional seismic hazard.

Opis:
According to the Water Framework Directive 2000/60 EC, the river basin is the basic unit for integrated water management at the basin level. In this sense, the knowledge of the morphometric parameters of the river takes on special importance. Morphometric analysis helps in understanding the geo-hydrological characteristics of a river basin. Various authors point out that the morphometric analyses of a drainage watershed demonstrate the dynamic equilibrium that has been achieved due to the interaction between matter and energy. The analysis of morphometric parameters also facilitates and helps to understand the hydrological relations of the basin. This paper deals with the morphometric analysis of sub-basins in the Klina River basin which is located in the northeastern part of the Dukagjini depression. To determine the morphometric parameters in the Klina River basin, the digital relief model from the Advanced Land Observation Satellite (ALOS) platform with a resolution of 20 × 20 m and the ArcMap 10.5 software were used. The results reveal that the total number of streams is 753 of which 602 are 1st order streams, 119 - 2nd order, 23 - 3rd order, 6 - 4th order, 2 - 5th order, and 1 - 6th order streams. The mean bifurcation ratio is 3.81, drainage density is 1.52 km∙km-2. The data and information presented in this study will be helpful and interesting in the plan of the management of Klina River basin which covers an area of 477 km2 within which is estimated to live about 100,000 inhabitants.

The paper presents a new method of quantitative parameterization of volumetric-net geomorphological structures with the use of random walk formalism and an analysis of self-similarity exponent distribution derived from random walk experiments. As examples, two American three-dimensional Wind and Lechuguilla cave networks were elaborated. The provided methodology is able to uniquely characterize the morphology of cave systems.

High intraspecific genetic and morphological variation in the pioneer lichen Cladonia rei colonising slag dumps

Opis:
This study investigates the genetic and morphological variability of the lichen Cladonia rei inhabiting strongly contaminated postsmelting slag dumps in southern Poland. Altogether, 27 C. rei samples were analysed, including 17 from a single population in one dump. The phylogenetic analysis includes samples of C. rei, outgroup species, and external sequences of Cladonia section representatives from GenBank. Comparative analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rDNA sequences revealed the presence of 19 C. rei haplotypes overall, including several of the most frequent, of which 11 are represented by single individuals only. As many as 12 haplotypes were recorded within a single population. Three strongly supported monophyletic clades comprised of specimens from different geographical regions were recovered. Morphometric analysis showed great phenotypic variability within particular clades. Apart from a full range of previously known morphological forms of the species, an additional specific morphotype was recognised in the dumps; however, its representatives do not create a monophyletic group. High genetic variability within a single population suggests that C. rei has a great potential for colonising anthropogenic habitats. This attribute emphasises the role of this lichen as an essential pioneer in the early stages of natural regeneration of such sites.
