Opis:: The objective of the article is to study the peculiarities of students’ perception of teaching style and to determine the correlation between such perception and motivation of students’ learning. The group of respondents included 254 future social and 156 technical specialists (a total of 410 students), methods of research were questioning and testing; Pearson correlation coefficient was used for statistical analysis. Students perceived the democratic teaching style as the most positive, and its use is associated with educational and cognitive motives. Authoritarian and laissez faire styles are seen as undesirable. The first is related to the motives of avoidance, and the second has feedback from professional motives of students. Comparison of the results of the survey of future social and technical specialists allowed us to determine that the latter perceive the authoritarian style more positively than students of social specializations.

Opis:: Accession of Poland to the European Union induced a variety of changes in different areas of life, including education. A second language was introduced as a compulsory subject in kindergarten and primary school and two compulsory foreign languages in general lower and upper secondary schools. English is the most popular of all languages in all types of schools, regardless of the level of education they represent. Globalization of the English language, the process which can be observed nowadays, has a significant impact on actions taken by schools to popularize learning this language. Therefore, the research was performed with a view to achieving a better understanding of the popularization of English language learning in primary schools in the larger context of a variety of factors. Basing on the analysis of research results, the conclusions reflecting real needs of learners as far as the more effective English language learning is concerned have been drawn. Sharing the research findings with the primary schools which participated in the research will contribute to their practical application.

Opis:: The purpose of this article is to characterize gamification as an increasingly popular contemporary method of teaching, which is part of the StudentCentered Learning trend. The SCL philosophy, which promotes studentcentered approach as the central issue of the learning process, indicates gamification as one of the most effective and the most interesting method of motivating students to be put in the effort in gaining knowledge and derive satisfaction from their achievements in the scientific field. As indicated by the authors, finding the motivation and maintaining it at an adequate level in the process of teaching, is not an easy task, and the problem posed by its absence is becoming more common in Polish and European higher education system. This evaluation is confirmed by the studies of the authors within domestic and foreign literature. The most common causes of amotivation, presented in the article, could be gradually solved just through gamification — teaching methodology, which uses the game mechanics. Gamification, based on the teaching through activating students, encouraging them to a self-activity, a creative rivalry and a cooperation, is nowadays increasingly used in an academic field, where the authors have found numerous interesting examples. The authors of the text are outlining the principles and advantages of using gamification, the potential areas of application as well as interesting projects with its use. They also postulate to change the current paradigm of teaching by replacing the often inefficient ‘feeding’ teaching methods of transmitting knowledge with more active form, wherein gamification is fully applicable.

Opis:: L2 motivation is a relational phenomenon, shaped by teacher responsiveness (Lamb, 2017; Ushioda, 2009). Little, however, is known about the practices in which responsiveness is manifested. Drawing on research from the culturally responsive teaching paradigm (Petrone, 2013), and highlighting the role of empathy and perspective taking (Warren, 2018), the aim of this ethnographic case study of two lessons with a focus on poetry is to develop a relational understanding of the evolution of motivation. Analyses reveal how perspective taking has instructional and interactional dimensions, and how connections between lesson content and funds of knowledge with origins in students’ interactions with popular culture bring additional layers of meaning to learning. It is suggested that while connections that arise through perspective taking practices shape students’ in-the-moment motivational responses, they also accumulate in ways that lead to enduring motivational dispositions.

Nauczanie angielskiego słownictwa dzieci na przykładzie uczniów klas 4-6 szkoły podstawowej

Opis:: Zgodnie z tematem „nauczanie angielskiego słownictwa dzieci na przykładzie uczniów klas 4-6 szkoły podstawowej”, w niniejszej pracy licencjackiej zostały przedstawione różnorakie metody nauczania słownictwa w języku angielskim w grupach wiekowych od dziesięciu do trzynastu lat. Praca licencjacka składa się z części teoretycznej jak i praktycznej. W rozdziale pierwszym zostały nakreślony obraz idealnego nauczyciela, sposoby motywowania uczniów oraz wpływ środowiska rodzinnego i koleżeńskiego na stosunek uczniów do nauki języka angielskiego. Rozdział drugi przedstawia różne koncepcje prezentacji i ćwiczenia nowopoznanego słownictwa oraz została w nim podkreślona rola zadania domowego w procesie akwizycji języka angielskiego. Rozdział trzeci traktuje o rezultatach nauczania słownictwa uczniów w wieku 10-13, sposobach ewaluacji treści nauczania, potencjalnych problemach, które mogą wystąpić w procesie akwizycji nowego słownictwa oraz o charakterystyce uczniów w klasach 4-6 szkoły podstawowej.W części praktycznej niniejszej pracy licencjackiej zostało umieszczonych sześć przykładowych konspektów lekcji wraz z załącznikami. Autorka zwraca uwagę na ważność procesu nauczania słownictwa, bez którego żadna komunikacja językowa nie może nastąpić. Ponadto, podstawowa znajomość angielskiego słownictwa, która powinna zostać nabyta w klasach 4-6 szkoły podstawowej, stanowi warunek konieczny do przyszłej sprawności w języku angielskim. Podsumowując, nauczyciel odgrywa bardzo ważną rolę jako inicjator procesu motywacji i gotowości do nauki u uczniów, jest on tym samym wpływowym twórcą przyjaznej atmosfery niezbędnej do nauczania języka angielskiego.
The following bachelor’s thesis, titled „Teaching English vocabulary to young learners (students in classes 4-6 of the primary school)”, presents varied techniques of teaching English vocabulary to students aged 10-13. The dissertation is composed of a theoretical as well as a practical part. The first chapter contains qualities of an ideal teacher, methods of motivating students to learning English and describes the way how family and friend environment of a student influence over his attitude to English. In the second chapter some ideas of presenting and exercising new English vocabulary and the role of homework in acquisition of English words are depicted. The third chapter deals with teaching vocabulary results, the techniques of evaluating new material, anticipated problems in learning English vocabulary process and characteristics of students in classes 4-6 of Polish primary schools.The practical part of the BA thesis includes six vocabulary lesson plans with appendices. Furthermore, the author emphasizes the importance of teaching vocabulary in the English acquisition process as without words no communication can take place. The basic vocabulary that should be acquired during English lessons in classes 4-6 of the primary school is a prerequisite to the future English fluency. In conclusion, the teacher plays a crucial role in teaching English vocabulary as an initiator of a process that motivates students to learn and as creator of friendly learning conditions that are essential in English acquisition.
