Opis:
The parameters of the injection moulding process have a significant influence on the properties of the moulded parts. Selection of appropriate injection conditions (e. g. the injection temperature, mould temperature, injection and holding pressure, injection speed) contributes to the productivity and energy consumption of the injection moulding process as well as to the quality of the moulded parts. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of injection moulding parameters on properties of poly(ethylene) mouldings. Regranulate obtained from recycled film, which is a mixture of low-density poly(ethylene) and linear low-density poly(ethylene), was used for testing. Samples in the form of standardised tensile bars of type A1 were produced by injection moulding. A Krauss-Maffei KM65-160C4 injection moulding machine was used for this purpose. Variable parameters of the this process used in the study were: injection speed, mould temperature and holding pressure. The results of tensile strength tests of the obtained samples are presented. The weight and dimensions of mouldings from four different regranulates were also investigated. The effect of injection moulding conditions on the properties of poly(ethylene) mouldings was shown in the investigations. The mass of poly(ethylene) mouldings is dependent on the holding pressure.

Opis:
In the foundry industry, as in many other fields we seek to achieve the best quality with the least losses and the lowest cost. To meet these demands numerous plants increased automatization of their manufacturing processes. However, with changes in the production process it is necessary to change also the materials used. Not only casting alloys that are used in production, but also applied moulding and core sands are important. Proper selection and evaluation of the properties of used moulding mixtures is crucial in order to achieve a highly efficient production. In this article a new issue concerning the use of flexibility in foundry molding and core was mentioned. It explains the principles of measurement and interpretation of the obtained results for the cold-box moulding sands.

Opis:
Modern investigation methods and equipment for the quality estimation of the moulding sands matrices with organic binders, in their circulation process, are presented in the paper. These methods, utilising the special equipment combined with the authors investigation methods developed in the Faculty of Foundry Engineering, AGH the University of Science and Technology, allow for the better estimation of the matrix quality. Moulding sands systems with organic binders require an in-depth approach to factors deciding on the matrix technological suitability as well as on their environmental impact. Into modern methods allowing for the better assessment of the matrix quality belongs the grain size analysis of the reclaimed material performed by means of the laser diffraction and also the estimation of the moulding sand gas evolution rate and identification of the emitted gases and their BTEX group gases content, since they are specially hazardous from the point of view of the Occupational Safety and Health.

Opis:
Przeprowadzono symulacje procesu wtryskiwania mikroporującego MuCell, w których wykorzystano program komputerowy Moldflow Plastics Insight 5.0. Dokonano analizy wpływu rodzaju tworzywa i grubości ścianki wypraski na jej strukturę porowatą, naprężenie i odkształcenie oraz wartość skurczu objętościowego. Wyniki porównano z zależnościami odnoszącymi się do procesu wtryskiwania z wykorzystaniem chemicznego środka porującego. Stwierdzono, że wysokość gniazda formującego wywiera istotny wpływ na rozkład temperatury i ciśnienia wtryskiwanego tworzywa, atakże na wymiary i rozkład porów w wypraskach. Zastosowanie opisywanej metody wtryskiwania mikroporującego pozwala na znaczne zredukowanie czasu i ciśnienia docisku, a tym samym skrócenie czasu całego cyklu wtryskiwania.
Computer simulations of the MuCell — microcellular injection moulding process were carried out using Moldflow Plastics Insight 5.0 software. An analysis of the effect of plastic type and wall thickness of the moulded part on its porous structure, internal stress and strain as well as the value of volumetric shrinkage was performed. The results of these simulations were compared with the relationships for cellular injection moulding process using chemical blowing agent. It was found that the cavity height has a significant influence on the distribution of temperature and pressure of liquid plastic as well as size and distribution of pores in the moulded parts. Application of this injection moulding method can significantly reduce the holding time and pressure and, in effect, the time of the injection cycle.

Opis:
The article discusses the issues related to moulding of micro-elements from powder materials and it covers the first stage of the process - injecting to the mould cavity and filling the micro-channels. The material, which constituted the composition of a special thermoplastic binder and ceramic powder, was injected. The binder consisted of paraffin, polyethylene, wax and stearic acid. The nanometer powders from Al2O3 ceramic material with granularity of 660 nm and 135 nm and irregularly shaped particles were used. Different loading of composition by powder were used. The analyses of the impact of injection parameters, such as the mould-s temperature and the temperature of the material, on the quality of filling the micro-mould cavity with the material, were presented. The special moulding insert with micro-channels was made to perform the analyses to that effect with width from 50 to 1000 mm. The presented results of filling the micro-channels indicate considerable influence of the mould's temperature and the cross-section of microchannels. Slight impact of the material's temperature was observed; however, this factor does not have a considerable influence on filling the channel. The obtained information was used in the experiments of injection the samples for bending tests and tensile tests, and the shapes in the form of toothed wheels.

Opis:
Shredding is the component of the most important techniques of mechanical recycling of polymeric materials. It is often used as one of the main preparatory processes, associated with the constitution of composite materials. This means that it is a very important and current problem to be solved in terms of technology, design, and economy, as well as environmental protection. A preparation of composite material components by shredding depends specfically on the expected degree of fineness, appropriate size distribution and desired morphology of an elementary particle. The subject of this work concerns mechanical shredding of polymeric materials in various types of mills and agglomerators. The paper presents the tests for verifying the influence of size and shapes of openings in sieves made in the shredder on selected parameters and properties of the obtained recyclate. During the shredding process, the following parameters were analysed: electricity consumption, temperature inside the shredding chamber and the temperature of the obtained recyclate. Selected properties of the obtained recyclate, such as: geometric features of the recyclate dependent on the applied sieves, bulk density and the angle of natural repose were also determined. Mouldings with a gating system, made of polypropylene, were the subject of shredding.

Opis:
Using the available analytical methods, including the determination of chemical composition using wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescent spectroscopy technique and phase composition determined using X-ray diffraction, microstructural observations in a high-resolution scanning microscope equipped with an X-ray microanalysis system as well as determination of characteristic softening and sintering temperatures using high-temperature microscope, the properties of particular chromite sands were defined. For the study has been typed reference sand with chemical properties, physical and thermal, treated as standard, and the sands of the regeneration process and the grinding process. Using these kinds of sand in foundries resulted in the occurrence of the phenomenon of the molding mass sintering. Impurities were identified and causes of sintering of a moulding sand based on chromite sand were characterized. Next, research methods enabling a quick evaluation of chromite sand suitability for use in the preparation of moulding sands were selected.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of laboratory tests into the effects of moisture and the content of two types of bentonite on dielectric properties of moulding sand. The use of electromagnetic waves in foundry industry is becoming more and more popular, which provides to some extent alternatives to conventional drying methods. Experimental studies published so far have shown the validity of using microwaves for drying classic moulding sands with bentonite. However, these studies lack data on the effect of moisture or bentonite content in moulding sand on the real component ε' or imaginary component ε'' of the relative complex electrical permittivity. The presented results may become in the future the basis for the evaluation of the composition of moulding sands, taking into account the phenomena occurring under the influence of electromagnetic field, which directly translates into the quality of the castings made and may constitute an attempt to develop a mathematical model of electric properties of moulding sands.

W artykule przedstawiono zarys metodyki pomiarów poboru mocy przez mieszarki masy formierskiej, z wykorzystaniem oryginalnego komputerowego systemu przeznaczonego do monitorowania i rejestracji chwilowych wartości napięć, prądów i mocy pobieranej przez odlewnicze maszyny i urządzenia o napędzie elektrycznym oraz analizatora jakości energii elektrycznej KEW 6310 firmy Kyoritsu. Powyższy system umożliwia kontrolę eksploatacyjnych parametrów tych urządzeń z uwzględnieniem energochłonności. Poprzez monitorowanie pracy mieszarek, możliwa jest również ocena procesu technologicznego sporządzania masy formierskiej. Metodykę pomiarów oraz sposób analizy wybranych wyników omówiono na przykładzie badań trzech różnych mieszarek: przemysłowej mieszarki krążnikowej, prototypowej mieszarki wirnikowej oraz nowoczesnej, wirnikowej mieszarki laboratoryjnej. Przeprowadzone badania potwierdziły funkcjonalność i przydatność zastosowanego w pomiarach mikroprocesorowego systemu. Umożliwia on określenie szeregu istotnych parametrów z punktu widzenia energochłonności pracy napędów mieszarki. Podstawowe, istotne aspekty monitoringu poboru mocy to: optymalizacja i kontrola procesu mieszania, uwzględniająca jakość sporządzanej masy formierskiej oraz ocenę poprawności pracy mieszarki. Podkreślenia wymaga również możliwość wykorzystania wyników pomiarów w optymalizacji konstrukcji i eksploatacji urządzenia. W badaniach potwierdzono wpływ zmiany wilgotności masy na wybrane parametry energetyczne w procesie mieszania masy.
A method is outlined that can be adopted for measuring the power demand by moulding sand mixers using a dedicated computer system enabling the monitoring and recording of instantaneous voltage and current levels and of power taken up by foundry machines and installations and Power Quality Analyser KEW 6310, Kyoritsu Company. This system allows the operational parameters of electric-powered devices to be effectively monitored taking into account the energy efficiency level. Monitoring of the machine operation gives also possibility of assessment of the moulding sand preparation processes. The methodology of measurements and processing of measurement data is explained using the example of investigation of three different mixers: industrial roller mixer (Simpson type), the prototype rotary mixer and modern rotary mixer for laboratory applications. Tests have confirmed the adequacy and good performance of the microprocessor system used in measurements, allowing the energy efficiency parameters of the mixer drive to be determined accordingly. The fundamental aspects involved in power demand monitoring include: optimization and control of the mixing process, taking into account the moulding sand quality and mixer performance. It has to be emphasised that the measurement results can be also utilised in optimisation of the machine’s constructional and operational features. Tests confirm that variations of moisture content in moulding sand can impact on selected power energy parameters in moulding sand mixing process.

Opis:
The paper presents and describes cooling systems mainly used in industrial plants specialized in production based on injection moulding machines. Each solution is rated taking into account investment costs, technical complexity, exploitation costs and system flexibility in general. With regard to dynamically changing law regulations linked to refrigeration installations, mainly F-Gases Act, during optimal system selection new restrictions were respected. This approach ensures long-term exploitation without additional complications. The paper contains characteristics of cooled facility, i.e. production plastic plant using injection moulding machines, presents specifics for this type of application where two extremely different cooling processes are placed in parallel. One task is heat collection from injection moulds to ensure short production time and produced details recurrence, the second is keeping hydraulic oil temperature between temperature limits – this process ensures proper oil viscosity and prevents its premature wear.
