Opis:: This paper focuses on the topic of creating a gesture-oriented user control system for robotic agents. For testing purposes we have used a Lego Mindstorm NXT self-designed robot and a Xtion Pro camera. Our construction consists of a NXT brick and three motors (two used for movement and one for the clutch mechanism). Our software is developed using C++ with NXT++ and OpenNi/NiTe libraries. System tests were performed in a real environment.

Opis:: The article provides an overview and analysis of various forms of commerce in the three-dimensional virtual worlds. It takes into account technological, economic and psychological factors. The article tries to classify business models based on the roles of actors involved in trade and on the nature of virtual worlds. These issues are illustrated from the transformation perspective of the Web 2.0 site, and in the future 3D Internet.

Tytuł:: User performance and engagement in multi-user gaming Environments : an experimental investigation through the group eye tracking (GET) paradigm

Opis:: This study explores user performance and engagement in a multi-user gaming environment, using the Group Eye Tracking (GET) paradigm. Through a balloon-popping task, we investigate the interplay between individual and collective gaze behaviors under various social scenarios and gaze cue availabilities. Participants engaged in the game individually, collaboratively, and competitively, with or without access to peers’ gaze cues. Our findings show that reaction times vary significantly depending on the social context and the availability of gaze cues. Playing in groups generally increased engagement, flow, and positive experiences but also introduced more challenges and negative emotions, especially due to the competitive and coordination demands of group play. Introducing gaze cues notably affected the players by enhancing their immersion and skill perception while evoking mixed emotional reactions. Gaze reaction times systematically increased in group scenarios with gaze cues, underscoring the attentional dichotomy between target and gaze cue stimuli. We contrast these results with existing theories on joint action, providing insights into the complex social and perceptual dynamics in gaming. This study demonstrates how multi-user eye tracking can offer new possibilities in gaming, broadening our understanding of joint actions and presenting potential to enhance interactions in digital environments.

Opis:: The energy consumption of the wireless communication systems is starting to be unaffordable. One way to improve the power consumption is the optimization of the communication techniques used by the communication networks and devices. In order to develop an energy efficient UWB multi-user communication system, the choice of modulation and multi access technique is important. This paper compares two Ultra-wideband multi-user techniques, i.e. the DS-UWB and the TH-UWB in the case of the Nakagami-m fading channel. For the DS-UWB technique, the orthogonal (T-OVSF, ZCD) and non-orthogonal (Kasami) codes are used. For TH-UWB, authors consider different modulations (PPM, PSM, PAM). This comparison allows choosing the best solution in terms of energy consumption, data rate and communication range. Two different studies are realized to find the most efficient technique to use. In the first study, the same number of users for the different type of codes (data rate values) is chosen and the total energy consumption for several distances and path-loss coefficient is computed. In the second one, the multiusers effects (same data rate) for various values of distances and path-loss are evaluated.

Opis:: Doppler-RAKE detection in the CDMA system has been further developed and offers better performances in comparison to conventional RAKE detection, especially in fast-fading environments. Also, the multi-user Doppler-RAKE system works more effectively with channel coding applications. However, by means of exploring the Doppler effect, the system's data rate is decreased. We propose a simple solution to increase the data rate for the system while keeping the Doppler gain.

Opis:: Commonly used mobile devices, like smart phones and tablets, are currently becoming an integral part of measurement systems. This paper describes the design principles for a measurement system using such devices and gives an example of a system for measuring the carbon content in the ashes from power industry boilers. The functions of the system are described with a division into the ones implemented on a mobile device and other user interfaces nodes. The methods of programming mobile devices are presented including their advantages and disadvantages. The presented multi-user solution can be used in other measurement systems, as well.
Powszechnie używane urządzenia przenośne typu smartfony i tablety stają się obecnie także nieodzowną częścią systemów pomiarowych. W artykule opisano zasady projektowania systemu pomiarowego wykorzystującego takie urządzenia na przykładzie systemu do pomiaru zawartości węgla w popiele z kotłów energetyki zawodowej. Opisano funkcje systemu z rozdzieleniem na realizowane w urządzeniu mobilnym i innych węzłach interfejsów użytkownika. Przedstawiono metody programowania urządzeń przenośnych z uwzględnieniem ich zalet i wad. Zaprezentowane rozwiązanie wielodostępności może znaleźć zastosowane również w innych systemach pomiarowych.

Opis:: This paper presents a novel approach for user classification exploiting multi- criteria analysis. This method is based on measuring the distance between an observation and its respective Pareto front. The obtained results show that the combination of the standard KNN classification and the distance from Pareto fronts gives satisfactory classification accuracy – higher than the accuracy ob- tained for each of these methods applied separately. Conclusions from this study may be applied in recommender systems where the proposed method can be implemented as the part of the collaborative filtering algorithm.

Opis:: Ankiety są jedną z technik używanych w metodzie badań jakościowych. W ramach przedmiotu metodologia projektowania na kierunku Architektura Wnętrz Wydziału Architektury Politechniki Śląskiej zostały przeprowadzone analizy jakościowe wybranych losowo mieszkań usytuowanych w budynkach wielorodzinnych. Uzupełnieniem analiz eksperckich była ankieta skierowana do wybranego użytkownika badanego lokalu. Uzyskane odpowiedzi stanowią indywidualną opinię mieszkańca na temat wad i zalet jego miejsca zamieszkania, wyposażenia technicznego oraz cech poszczególnych pomieszczeń. Artykuł przedstawia uzyskane informacje w formie raportu z badań ankietowych.
Questionnaire research is one of the techniques used in the qualitative research method. As part of the course Design Methodology run at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, qualitative analyzes of randomly selected apartments located in multi-family buildings were carried out. The expert analyses were supplemented by a questionnaire addressed to a selected user of the premises under study. The answers obtained constitute the individual opinion of the resident about the advantages and disadvantages of his place of residence, technical equipment and the features of the rooms. The paper presents the obtained information in the form of a survey report.
