Opis:
This paper is devoted to multiple soft fault diagnosis of analog nonlinear circuits. A two-stage algorithm is offered enabling us to locate the faulty circuit components and evaluate their values, considering the component tolerances. At first a preliminary diagnostic procedure is performed, under the assumption that the non-faulty components have nominal values, leading to approximate and tentative results. Then, they are corrected, taking into account the fact that the non-faulty components can assume arbitrary values within their tolerance ranges. This stage of the algorithm is carried out using the linear programming method. As a result some ranges are obtained including possible values of the faulty components. The proposed approach is illustrated with two numerical examples.

Opis:
Hull consistency is a known technique to improve the efficiency of iterative interval methods for solving nonlinear systems describing steady-states in various circuits. Presently, hull consistency is checked in a scalar manner, i.e. successively for each equation of the nonlinear system with respect to a single variable. In the present poster, a new more general approach to implementing hull consistency is suggested which consists in treating simultaneously several equations with respect to the same number of variables.

Opis:
In this paper, the well-known method of phasor analysis of linear ac circuits is extended in a rigorous mathematical way to nonlinear analysis. This fills the lack of such a theory in the literature. The results derived enable carrying out the needed corrections of some results published recently that regard harmonic distortion analysis of weakly nonlinear circuits.

Opis:
Along with the increase in the use of nonlinear electronic devices, e.g. personal computers, power tools and other electrical appliances, the requirements for uninterruptible power supplies are constantly growing. This paper proposes a method and deep analysis of results viable for checking how single-phase uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) cope with nonlinear circuits under varying power loads in terms of electric energy quality. Various classes of single-phase UPS systems with different topologies were tested, for instance line-interactive and double conversion (online) single-phase UPS devices. Furthermore, measurements were carried out in view of a power source – loads were supplied both from a power grid and UPS built-in battery. Juxtaposition of the obtained results such as a THDU , THDI (Total Harmonic Distortion) percentage ratio of input/output voltage and current, a power factor and crest factor volume etc. of the tested UPS systems indicated major differences in their performance during laboratory tests.

Opis:
Considering the problem to diagnose incipient faults in nonlinear analog circuits, a novel approach based on fractional correlation is proposed and the application of the subband Volterra series is used in this paper. Firstly, the subband Volterra series is calculated from the input and output sequences of the circuit under test (CUT). Then the fractional correlation functions between the fault-free case and the incipient faulty cases of the CUT are derived. Using the feature vectors extracted from the fractional correlation functions, the hidden Markov model (HMM) is trained. Finally, the well-trained HMM is used to accomplish the incipient fault diagnosis. The simulations illustrate the proposed method and show its effectiveness in the incipient fault recognition capability.

Opis:
It has been shown that the description of mildly nonlinear circuits with the use of an operator o introduced by Meyer and Stephens in their paper published more than forty years ago was flawed. The problem now with their incorrect and imprecise definition is that it is still replicated in one or another form, as, for example, in publications of Palumbo and Pennisi on harmonic distortion calculation in integrated CMOS amplifiers or an article of Shrimali and Chatterjee on nonlinear distortion analysis of a three-terminal MOS-based parametric amplifier. Here, we discuss the versions of o operator presented in the works mentioned above and show points, where mistakes were committed. Also, we derive the correct forms of nonlinear circuit descriptions that should be used.

Opis:
For the first time, operator o appeared in the literature on weakly nonlinear circuits in a Narayanan’s paper on modelling transistor nonlinear distortion with the use of Volterra series. Its definition was restricted only to the linear part of a nonlinear circuit description. Obviously, as we show here, Narayanan’s operator o had meaning of a linear convolution integral. The extended version of this operator, which was applied to the whole nonlinear circuit representation by the Volterra series, was introduced by Meyer and Stephens in their paper on modelling nonlinear distortion in variable-capacitance diodes. We show here that its definition as well as another definition communicated to the author of this paper are faulty. We draw here attention to these facts because the faults made by Meyer and Stephens were afterwards replicated in publications of Palumbo and his coworkers on harmonic distortion calculation in integrated CMOS amplifiers, and recently in a paper about distortion analysis of parametric amplifier by H. Shrimali and S. Chatterjee. These faults are also present in some class notes for students, which are available on WWW-pages.

Opis:
The paper is focused on nonlinear analog circuits, with the special attention paid to circuits comprising bipolar and MOS transistors manufactured in micrometer and submicrometer technology. The problem of fault diagnosis of this class of circuits is discussed, including locating faulty elements and evaluating their parameters. The paper deals with multiple parametric fault diagnosis using the simulation after test approach as well as detection and location of single catastrophic faults, using the simulation before test approach. The discussed methods are based on diagnostic test, leading to a system of nonlinear algebraic type equations, which are not given in explicit analytical form. An important and new aspect of the fault diagnosis is finding multiple solutions of the test equation, i.e. several sets of the parameters values that meet the test. Another new problems in this area are global fault diagnosis of technological parameters in CMOS circuits fabricated in submicrometer technology and testing the circuits having multiple DC operating points. To solve these problems several methods have been recently developed, which employ different concepts and mathematical tools of nonlinear analysis. In this paper they are sketched and illustrated. All the discussed methods are based on the homotopy (continuation) idea. It is shown that various versions of homotopy and combinations of the homotopy with some other mathematical algorithms lead to very powerful tools for fault diagnosis of nonlinear analog circuits. To trace the homotopy path which allows finding multiple solutions, the simplicial method, the restart method, the theory of linear complementarity problem and Lemke’s algorithm are employed. For illustration four numerical examples are given.

In this paper, the idea of an extended operator o introduced in the literature on modelling weakly nonlinear circuits by Meyer and Stephens is revisited. The mathematically precise definitions of this operator for the successive Volterra series terms are given. Furthermore, the exhaustive formal and illustrative descriptions of these definitions are also presented. Finally, the possibility of a reverse formulation for the convolution operations occurring in descriptions of weakly nonlinear circuits is reported.

Opis:
After voltage switch on a current in circuit due to inertia existence start to grow from null to nominal value. Meanwhile grows the resistance (impedance) voltage drops to achieve Kirchhoff’s rule. We can use a circuit with feedback (constant value control system or follow-up control system), which search for circuit parameters fulfilling Kirchhoff’s rules – in such case elements can be nonlinear. In the paper theoretic bases of circuit solutions using Matlab-Simulink program are discussed. Examples of nonlinear circuit of DC, nonlinear circuit for instantaneous values of AC supplied circuit and linear AC circuit evaluated for vector values are presented.
