Opis:
In the circumstances of only a limited number of pesticides being approved for use in forest nurseries, it is necessary to also examine the efficacy of new products available on the European market that stimulate growth and improve resilience and vitality among seedlings and saplings, with a view to the application of these products forming part of an integrated programme of plant protection. This paper describes trials of the three commercially available fertilizer products Actifos, Zielony Busz and Effective Microorganisms (EM), as carried out in seven Polish nurseries in an attempt to promote the growth of shoots and root systems of seedlings and saplings. In 64% of cases of it being used, Actifos was shown to stimulate growth significantly beyond control levels in the shoots of oak, beech, pine, spruce and alder saplings as well as the roots of young alders and oaks.

Opis:
The issue of institutional care of the youngest children has been rarely discussed in scientific studies. In the context of the contemporary debates about improving the quality of toddlers’ care and education, it is a good idea to remind about the origin of nurseries and the development thereof. The first nurseries were established in Poland over 100 years ago. From the beginning, before Poland even regained independence until present day, they have changed their functions and organization. The aim of the article is to show the changes to the function of crèches against a political, social and cultural background since the very beginning of the existence of nurseries until the outbreak of World War II. The method used in this article is historical explanation, and the technique is an analysis of documents: literature, magazines, legal acts. The responsibilities of crèches discussed in this article include care, health -related, educational, upbringing and family-related activities This is the first of two articles related to changes in the function of crèches in a historical approach.

Nurseries in Poland are over 100 years old. Since the beginning of their existence, before Poland regained independence, until present days they have changed their functions and organization. The aim of the article is to show crèches changed against the political, social and cultural background of the end of the Second World War to the early 21st century. The method used in this article is a historical monograph, and the technics include an analysis of generally accessible documents (literature, magazines for women, legal acts, films) and an analysis of personal documents of retired nursery workers. The documentation has been supplemented by 10 interviews with ladies employed in Lublin nurseries from 1973 until 2019. The article has been written in cooperation with the Municipal Nurses Complex in Lublin. The tasks of crèches as presented in this article are care, pro-professional, prohealth, educational, upbringing and family function. This article is the second part of two articles, which concerns changes in the function of crèches in their history. The first part is published in “Bulletin of the History of Education” in 2019.

Opis:
The article addresses the parents’ anxiety during the separation from their child in the first days of stay in a nursery. For a parent, who is the first attachment figure for a child, separation is extremely difficult and stressful. The aim of presented research was to verify whether and to what extent, on the basis of such factors as the level of trait anxiety, gender, age of the parent or the number of children in the family, it is possible to predict the level of parents’ anxiety when entrusting children to nursery care. The study was done using State-Trait Anxiety Inventory [STAI] scale and short questionnaire regarding the age and family conditions. Results indicate that the factors predicting the level of state anxiety of the parents who entrust the care of their children to nurseries, were the parent’s gender and the level of their trait anxiety. Mothers had significantly higher levels of anxiety than fathers, and the level of anxiety as a state was higher in parents who generally experienced higher anxiety measured as trait anxiety.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to present the main organizational assumptions of nurseries, which were just organized in the Interwar period and were to represent the first level of social care and educational work for mothers and children. The proposed issue is of contributory nature and is the first attempt to discuss the activities and operations of nurseries in the Interwar period, when their utility and significance were discussed. It is a description of the origins of the facility, which in the post-war period was a common element of childcare. As a result of the developing industry and the growing demand for workers, young mothers also took up paid jobs in order to improve their material status. Therefore, nurseries located near factories did not actually mushroom and the time of development of this institution was arrested in the post-war period.

Achieving high quality propagative material is difficult today due to the limited number of pesticides recommended for use. Simultaneously, EU regulations on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in forest nurseries came into a force, requiring a search for alternative plant protection methods that are safe for humans, animals and the environment. In this paper, we present the possibilities of using bio-fungicides against diseases in forest nurseries, their mechanisms of action, as well as the direction of their development (according to IPM rules). We reviewed the results achieved by different research teams presenting the possibilities and trends in combatting Oomycetes and Fusarium spp. pathogens currently having the most important economic impact.

Opis:
Weeds competing with seedlings of trees for nutrients, moisture, light and space, drown out their growth in nurseries and forest crops. Currently, in forestry, weed control is mainly carried out in forest nurseries, less often during the preparation of the area intended for afforestation, but sporadically in forest crops. The most important species of weeds threatening seedlings of forest trees include Senecio vulgaris, S. silvaticus, Deschampsia caespitosa, Pteridium aquilinum, Agropyron repens, Calamagrostis epigeios and Equisetum arvense. In Poland, herbicides have the largest share (about 50%) in the sale of plant protection products, but the scale of their use in forests is small, compared to agriculture. In 2012, 915 herbicides were registered in the country, out of which only 14 products (0.5%) were for use in forestry. In the years 1999–2019, 31 herbicides were registered for the protection of forest nurseries and crops, which included 13 active substances belonging to 11 chemical groups, of which 9 active substances have been used up to now. Most herbicides (15–16) were used in the years 2004–2006, the lowest in 1999–2000 and in 2014 (4 products). The most popular active substance has been glyphosate contained in 18 products.

Opis:
W pracy przedstawiono problematykę dotyczącą zastosowania promieniowania ultrafioletowego w dezynfekcji gleby. Szczególnie uwagę zwrócono no użycie ultrafioletu do ograniczania szkód wywoływanych przez zgorzel siewek w szkółkach leśnych. Przeprowadzono doświadczenie laboratoryjne zdolności dezynfekujących promieniowania UV-C na zainfekowanym podłożu pobranym ze szkółki leśnej. Doświadczenie obejmowało pięć wariantów zróżnicowanych czasem i dawką promieniowania. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań można stwierdzić, że metoda ta nie przyniosła spodziewanego efektu ograniczania zgorzeli siewek.
The study presents the issue concerning application of ultraviolet radiation in soil disinfection. Particularly, it concerns ultraviolet radiation application in limiting damages caused by parasitic gangrene in seedlings in seedling nurseries. Laboratory experiment of disinfecting qualities of UV-C radiation on the infected bed collected from a seedling nursery. The experiment included five options differing with time and dose of radiation. Based on the conducted research it may be stated thatthis method did not bring an intended result of limiting the parasitic gangrene of seedlings.

Opis:
The possibility of using chemicals in European forestry is extremely limited due to the binding legal regulations and specific conditions concerning the market of plant protection products. This is reflected in the limited availability of active fungicides in forestry. Due to this limitation, practitioners using fungicides in forest nurseries and forest cultivation must have substantial knowledge of the biology of pathogens to ensure satisfactorily effective protection. The work presented here provides an overview of the currently recommended fungicides in Polish forestry as well as the mechanisms of interaction between the active substances and the pathogen, the plant and mycorrhizal fungi. The risk of fungicide resistance, which has been insufficiently explored in the context of forest pathogens, is also discussed in this paper.
Development project ‘The use of phosphite as effectors of resistance to root pathogens in nurseries and stands’, registration No N R12 0098 10, was carried out on behalf of the National Center for Research and Development and the statutory UWM research funded by the Ministry .
