Opis:: This paper reviews objectivism and constructivism: the two educational ideologies which underlie different language teaching methods, applied in the classrooms for decades. It reflects on some marked differences among the existing language theories and practices within the two traditions and their impact on early language education. The authors emphasize the changes in the focus of the educational paradigms and the need of working methodologies and classroom practices that are in line with the contemporary requirements of modern education. A shift from learning that to learning how has been observed. Young students should be able to have new experiences in a new language by doing things as autonomous learners within a group that has established a positive learning environment. The focus of research should be on developing and applying effective, age-appropriate approaches which will facilitate the language learning of children and enhance their overall physical and psychological development.

Opis:: Even though axiology as a separate philosophical discipline is relatively young, with estimated time of its birth in the midnineteenth century, the reflec-tion on the values, which is the subject of the axiological inquiries, has been around for centuries. It reaches the ancient beginnings of the philosophy itself. The matter of the way the values exist, their quantity and nature is being very actively discussed nowadays and creates multiple strategies, mostly connected with the realistic or idealistic starting point of philosophy itself. That is the reason why we are dealing with many definitions and classifications of axiological values. It turns out that today, the category of the values has not only inter- but multidisciplinary character. That is why we are talking about values virtually everywhere. Not only in philosophy, but we can find them in everyday life, social sciences, art, music, mathematics or economy. Unfortunately understanding of values in the latter – seems to be specifically close for many of us. This article belongs to the dynamic philosophical discussion about the metaphysics of values, from the point of view of metaphysics’ realism and objectivism. Within this strategy the author of this article tries to answer the few questions: firstly- what the values are, further on – what is their nature and the ontological status, to finish with selected examples of typology and classifi-cation of values and the possibility of sorting them out hierarchically. Accepting existential pluralism of the surrounding reality as an axiom – the author accepts axiological pluralism as well, in relation to the goodness as the condition of the hierarchization of the “world of values”.

Opis:: Our contemporary life is said to be in conformity with what we do. People tend to be honest and trustworthy unlike those in the past - in the Victorian times, for example, when there were elements of hypocrisy and conventional behaviour among citizens. Many people nowadays live their lives according to their own subjective beliefs; and they speak openly about their both good and bad deeds – even if some of them were kept secret to the public. And the public is equally open to tolerate or even accept them. An analysis of many cases in which people follow their own moral beliefs shows that this category of people are not always honest – only then, when their system of moral values is in accord with the objective system of moral values. Individual moral beliefs can be a result of false or relative moral theories, or even constructed to fit one’s moral attitude. Behaviour in which one respects the established principles, though may seem genuine, does not need to be considered honest. Following this kind of thinking, a man does not have any motivation or need to control himself – human-beings can dispense with self-development. The Victorian hypocrite had at least a due respect for moral values and knew that he had done wrong. His honesty followed what was good in his life but his deeds were all in all doomed to failure. Failure on the way of applying the right moral principles in life is not dishonesty. Every attempt to follow them inspires humans to undertake some spiritual efforts and gives opportunity to one’s own personal development.

The issue of individuality in the work of Ayn Rand

Opis:: Niniejsza praca rozprawia na temat filozofii obiektywizmu Ayn Rand. Szczególnie skupiłam się na kwestii indywidualności, która jest trzonem całej myśli. Indywidualizm odgrywa niezwykle ważną rolą. To jedno słowo zdeterminowało całe jej życie, dzięki czemu stworzyła niezwykłe dzieła, które do dziś wpływają na kolejne pokolenia. Trzeba również zwrócić uwagę na to, że duży wpływ na jej późniejsze dokonania miał fakt, że urodziła się w komunistycznej Rosji, w państwie, które z ogromną determinacją usiłowało indywidualizm kompletnie wyplenić ze społeczeństwa, a przede wszystkim z ludzkich umysłów. W pracy omawiam również podejście Rand do etyki, epistemologii, metafizyki i polityki.
This paper settles on the philosophy of Ayn Rand's objectivism. Particularly focused on the issue of individuality, which is the core all of her thoughts. Individualism plays a very important role. That one word determined the whole of her life, so that created a remarkable work, which still influence to the next generation. It should also be noted that the impact on her later work, was the fact that she was born in communist Russia, the country which with great determination attempted to completely eradicate individualism of the society, especially from people's minds. In this paper I discuss the Rand approach to ethics, epistemology, metaphysics and politics.

Opis:: The aim of this article is to explore the intricate relations between objectivism, subjectivism, and constructionism. I explore the construction of social problems in everyday professional practice as a valuable source for addressing and reflecting on differences in perceptions of knowledge. Using data from a study of how Danish social workers perceive social problems, the article shows how social workers’ perceptions of social problems reveal a sociological sense of social problems that renders possible both ontological assumptions, as well as epistemological reflections on the objective, subjective, and social constructionist dimensions of social problems. The social workers are constructing a model of social problems and how they are reproduced, as well as epistemological reflections on the uncertainty of knowing the “reality” of social problems. Those constructions are not formulated strictly in line with scholarly approaches but rather stem from experiences of working with social problems. The article proposes that we can learn something from this in terms of reimagining social constructionism. I propose that social constructionists should cultivate a sociological sense of the practical perceptions and approaches to solve social problems in society.

Opis:: The paper is an attempt to show science as an huge intellectual enterprise, based on bourgeois virtues such as straightforwardness and honesty. These virtues are reflected in methodology of science, which insists on meticulous, conscientious compliance to scientific rules and on using exactly specified methods of investigation. Scientific knowledge is supposed to be objective and critical, which means that it is to tend (1) to eliminate all extracognitive factors, (2) to check up and prove repeatedly the grounds of scientific statements and to adhere to procedures of scrupulous analysis of scientific arguments.
Artykuł jest próbą ukazania nauki jako wielkiego przedsięwzięcia intelektualnego, u podstaw którego stoją mieszczańskie cnoty rzetelności i uczciwości. Znajdują one odzwierciedlenie w metodologii nauk, która kładzie akcent na skrupulatne przestrzeganie reguł naukowych i stosowanie ściśle określonych metod badawczych. Poznanie naukowe ma się cechować obiektywizmem oraz krytycyzmem, musi zatem (1) dążyć do wyeliminowania wszelkich czynników pozapoznawczych oraz (2) wielokrotnie sprawdzać zasadność wszelkich twierdzeń naukowych i skrupulatnie analizować naukowe dowody i argumentacje.

Opis:: Tematem pracy jest postulat obiektywizmu w reportażu w kontraście z rzeczywistością. Głównym materiałem badawczym jest twórczość reportażysty Wojciecha Tochmana, a konkretnie „Jakbyś kamień jadła” oraz „Dzisiaj narysujemy śmierć”. W wywodzie autor podejmuje próbę obalenia postulatu obiektywizmu przy pomocy krytycznej analizy dyskursu. Praca składa się z czterech rozdziałów, najpierw dwóch w części teoretycznej, w których przybliżona jest historia reportażu oraz kwestia samego obiektywizmu, następnie znajduje się rozdział metodologiczny i w końcu rozdział badawczy, który zawiera analizę wybranych reportaży Wojciecha Tochmana.
The main topic of the dissertation is the postulate of objectivism in reportages, contrasted with the reality of the creative work behind them. Research is focused on Wojciech Tochman’s work, specifically reportages “Jakbyś kamień jadła” and “Dzisiaj narysujemy śmierć”. In the following dilatation author will try to overthrow the postulate of absolute objectivism using critical discourse analysis. The dissertation consists of four chapters, first two are discussing theoretical aspects of the reportage and the objectivism itself. The following chapter presents methodology used in order to analyse the given subjects, and last but not least – chapter fourth, focused solely on the analysis of the chosen reportages by Wojciech Tochman.

Opis:: Philosophy is of historical and trans-cultural value, thus it is necessary and indispensable in the life of humans. The same applies on the field of educational upbringing. The article points to the relationships taking place in the personal development of man and philosophy. The matter is discussed in the light of objective philosophy (realistic) and subjective philosophy (postmodern). The latter claims that there are no objective, universal or rationally grounded theses. All is reduced to rational relativism and subjectivism. On these grounds the necessity of the personal development is non-existent; every deed or human behaviour is of the same value. Virtues and weaknesses are on the same level. Yet another approach to this vexed issue is presented by philosophy of realism, which claims the right and obligation of humans for development. This development presupposes natural and supernatural development. Human beings benefits from such development by reaching their individual perfection, achieving it by everyday work and according to their own inborn abilities. The struggle for self-development is a decisive factor. It can help the contemporary pedagogics see the need for forming humans themselves in the high-tech culture of today’s world. Taking into consideration the consequences of both the above mentioned philosophical trends, one should notice that the philosophy of realism - although it is thought to be old-fashioned and unpractical - cannot be discarded. This type of philosophy struggles for the real good of the man. Therefore, it should be taken into account when looking at human beings. One is not able to pursue a healthy human activity without sound philosophical principles.
