Opis:
Risk assessment and management was established as a scientific field some 30–40 years ago. Principles and methods were developed for how to conceptualize, assess, and manage risk. These principles and methods still represent largely the foundation of this field today, but many advances have been made, linked to both the theoretical platform and practical models and procedures. The purpose of the thesis is to perform a review of these advances, with a special focus on the fundamental ideas and thinking on which these are based. We have looked for trends in perspectives and approaches, and we reflect on where further development of the risk field is needed and should be encouraged. The present study is written for readers with different types of background, not only for experts on risk. However, there is a conflict between the cost impact and safety aspect. E&P managers as well as government supervisor authorities are constantly faced with decisions to be made regarding of safety. In order to ensure comparability and to set priorities application of QRA is a useful tool to justify choices made with regard to personnel safety, environmental protection, asset damage and business reputation, it is recommended to apply the systematic cause analysis method and develop the risk management models which contains an integral approach toward the health, safety and environmental aspect.

Opis:
Biofouling is a natural phenomenon that consists of the accumulation of living organisms on an artificial surface submerged or in contact with water like Offshore platforms. This study highlights the need for offshore floating wind farms structures to consider the choice of material used in offshore applications to minimize microbial-associated and corrosion problems. For this purpose, differences in the total of seawater biofouling attached on two coated paints and three ceramic coatings in carbon steel for offshore structures were evaluated and compared. All ceramic coatings were made of incorporating, by electrophoretic deposition, active ceramic particles against biofouling as copper, silver, zinc and titanium. This experiment consisted of testing ceramic coatings and conventional paints in a real environment with high biological activity and at the same time in a shallow marine environment for a period of 1 year, which provided positive comparisons with the standard system (ASTM-D3623) for using in protecting offshore marine structures.

Opis:
Simulations were used to investigate the performance of lifeboats in high sea states using a virtual wave tank. Numerical simulations were performed in regular and irregular waves to study launch performance in extreme weather conditions. Limitations in launch equipment and the role of the timing of coxswains’ actions were investigated. The study indicated that the lifeboat may not be able to successfully launch when significant wave heights are above 8 m and the lifeboat is launched near the trough of a wave. High initial setback and continuous wave forces result in the vessel being unable to clear away from the launch platform. As wave heights increase, the amount of setback and time to exit the launch area increases. Over 35% of launches resulted in the lifeboat being unable to clear from the launch area when significant wave heights were 10 m or above. The study also identified that delay in completion of actions performed by the coxswain, such as releasing the lifeboat hooks and applying throttle, can increase setback and time to exit the launch area.

Opis:
The formation, migration and volume distribution of gas clouds, which are dominated by natural gas after oil and gas leakage, are the material basis of fire and explosion accidents on offshore platforms. Based on an offshore platform as the background, this paper conducts research on the gas cloud using numerical simulation method, the selection of different wind speeds, leak leakage rate of quality, wind direction and the direction angle, the leakage of gas diffusion behaviour simulation studies and its size distribution. There is a “coupling” effect on the volume value of 5% CH4 cloud between different wind speeds, leakage mass rates, and wind direction and leakage direction. When the wind speed is 13 m/s, the leakage mass velocity is 8 kg/s, and the included angle between wind direction and leakage direction is 180°, the “coupling” effect on the volume value of 5% CH4 cloud increases significantly. The above research results can provide a reference for the reasonable division of process risk area, firewall design and quantitative risk assessment of fire and explosion of an offshore platform.

Opis:
The high temperature and thermal radiation caused by generator fire accidents on the offshore platform lead to the destruction of equipment and facilities and threaten the structural safety of the offshore platform. Based on the background of a crude oil generator fire accident on an offshore platform, KFX software was used to conduct a numerical simulation of the fire process and explore the spatial-temporal variation characteristics of smoke, temperature and heat radiation within the scope of the fire room. The influence ranges of 12.5 kW/m2, 25 kW/m2 and 35 kW/m2 were obtained according to the thermal radiation criterion. Researchers examined the temperature variation and heat flow at the room’s ceiling and floor near the primary steel support. The results show that: 1) The surface temperatures of partial steel supports exceed 550°C, and the heat flux of partial steel supports exceeds 37.5 kW/m2. 2) In the ignition position, the maximum temperature at the ceiling reaches 2299°C when t = 24 s, and the maximum temperature at the flooring reaches 701°C when t = 79 s. The heat radiation flux at the ceiling and flooring both exceeds 25 kW/m2. The maximum temperature of partial crude oil generators can reach 1299°C. 3) The heat radiation flux of partial generators can reach 105 kW/m2, and the heat radiation flux at the adjacent point of partial generators never exceeds 20 kW/m2. The above research results can provide a reference for checking the response time of flame detectors and the strength of the supporting structure.

Opis:
Many engineering applications utilize passive Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) in several engineering applications because of their simplicity, readiness, and their ability in attenuating structural vibrations exposed to mild or extreme earthquake excitations. The main aim of this work is to find the optimum values of the system parameters after attaching a three degree of freedom Combined Pendulum Tuned Mass Damper (3-DOF CPTMD) to the main structure to investigate if the proposed solution will assist in reducing the amplitudę of the vibration. Three optimization search techniques are utilized, and the best optimum method is determined. Moreover, the structural system was modelled mathematically to get the governing motion equations, and the system was put into state-space format before being simulated using a homemade MATLAB© code. Additionally, it is found that the proposed 3-DOF CPTMD is very effective in dampening the structural vibrations under various earthquake excitations (including extreme conditions)

Opis:
The article presents the results of the research conducted within the framework of the project entitled WIND-TU-PLA (ERA-NET, MARTEC II), the general aim of which was to design and analyse supporting structures for wind turbines intended for operation on the South Baltic area. The research part described in the article aimed at developing a preliminary design for a jack-up platform which can operate on water areas with depth of 40 m. The main task was to determine optimal dimensions of platform legs and the radius of their spacing. Two jack-up platform concepts differing by spacing radius and hull dimensions were designed with the intention to be used as a supporting structure for a 6-MW offshore wind turbine. For each concept, the parametric analysis was performed to determine optimal dimensions of platform legs (diameter Dleg and plating thickness tleg). Relevant calculations were performed to assess the movements of the platform with parameters given in Table 1 in conditions simulating the action of the most violent storm in recent 50 years. The obtained results, having the form of amplitudes of selected physical quantities, are shown in comprehensive charts in Fig. 6 and 7. Based on the critical stress values (corresponding to the yield stress), the area was defined in which the impact strength conditions are satisfied (Fig. 14). Then, the fatigue strength analysis was performed for two selected critical leg nodes (Fig. 12). Its results were used for defining the acceptable area with respect to structure’s fatigue (Fig. 14). Geometric parameters were determined which meet the adopted criteria, Table 6. The decisive criterion turned out to be the fatigue strength criterion, while the yield point criterion appeared to be an inactive constraint.

Opis:
In this paper, to improve the mechanical behavior of DeepCwind semi-submersible floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) platform mooring lines, the nonlinear catenary cables of the platform were divided into multi-segment and intermediate buoys. Mathematical formulations of the boundary element method (BEM) governing the dynamics of mooring line systems with buoy devices were described. This study was applied to the OC4-DeepCwind semi-submersible FOWT platform, which is designed for a 200-meter water depth with mooring lines consisting of three catenary steel chain cables at 120° angles to each other. The dynamic response of the multi-segment catenary mooring lines with different buoy radiuses and different positions along the cables was investigated. The full-scale platform was modeled in ANSYS-AQWA software, and the simulations were performed under harsh offshore conditions. The mooring line’s general arrangement, tension, strain and uplift force for different buoy radiuses and their position along the cable are presented and discussed. Moreover, platform motions in three directions (surge, heave, and pitch) were also analyzed. It was concluded that by correctly selecting the buoy volume and position along the cable, the tension of the cable may be reduced by up to 45%. By incorrectly selecting the buoy, the results caused adverse effects.
