Opis:
The aim of the article is to contribute to the issue of forecasting the economic impact of the settlement of Ukrainian refugees in Poland on the social insurance economic base. The immigration wave study established the state of registered immigration in Poland as of 8 August 2022 which amounted to 1.3 million Ukrainians. The main area of research presented in this article is the recognition of changes in the potential of the labour factor in the economic base of the Polish social security system. The results of the projections of population change in Poland and the projections of the ratio of the post-working age population to the working age population without and with Ukrainians in three variants and scenarios are presented. The study shows that population changes in Poland with war refugees from Ukraine will slightly alter the level of the demographic replacement rate for the baseline scenario. However, under the most negative scenario in Ukraine, there will be a noticeable improvement in the demographic dependency ratio. An increase in the demographic burden will create growing problems for the financing of pension systems in Poland as well as in Europe as a whole.

Opis:
The second transition manifesting in the preference of informal relationships, decreased death rate, longer life, increased migration, strive for maximum use of education, income, and increased life standard and quality contribute to the decreased birth rate (below the level ensuring linear replacement of generations) lids to ageing of population. It is a process in which changes occur in population age structure and an increase in the number and proportion of older people (especially people aged over 65) in the general population, as well as a decrease in the number of young people This process leads to outcomes which, apart from demographic implications, are of socioeconomic significance and influence changes in the structure of consumption, income and savings distribution, decrease in labour productivity, changes in household structure, healthcare and social care for the elderly. This is why questions resulting from ageing of the population must be an element of adequate social policy. The aim of the paper is an evaluation of Poland’s population ageing by regions, in 1995-2035 years.

Opis:
Changes in the size and the age structure of a population have a great impact on an economy, especially on national savings and capital flows. Poland’s population, although still relatively young when compared to other developed countries, is expected to experience accelerated ageing and decline in forthcoming decades. In this paper, we assess the effects of these processes for Polish economy. Using an open-economy OLG model with demographic shocks and a variable retirement age, we simulate dynamics of real interest rates, main macro aggregates as well as net foreign assets to GDP. We show that rapid ageing will reduce the interest rate gap between Poland and the developed countries by 1.3-2 p.p. We also document a strong positive relationship between interest rates and the retirement age and find that the decline in the interest rate in Poland is primarily driven by the surviving probability shock.

Opis:
The objective of this study is to introduce the topic of old-age infirmity risk and to analyse the sources of its financing in the current legal framework, based on social insurance retirement benefits paid by the Social Insurance Institution. The problems of estimating the scale of old-age infirmity risk in Poland will be considered, and on the example of the average cost of living in a nursing home in selected cities conclusions and recommendations on possible sources of financing institutional long-term care in the future will be presented. Undertaking a discussion of the economic dimension of old age is justified primarily by the assumption that financing the specific needs of the elderly can generate extraordinary costs, both for individual households and for the public sector as a whole.
