We perform computer simulations of some one-dimensional models of coupled map lattices (CML) with symmetry and diffusive nearest neighbour coupling, to study Ising-type transitions. Such transitions appear to be related to the presence of a dip (minimum) in the plot of the Lyapunov dimension versus coupling parameter.

Opis:
The uncertain equivalence method (UE) is a newly proposed technique for elicitation of 1-D utilities in the case of monotonic preferences. Previous publications argue that the rationale behind the introduction of this technique is that UE estimates are not influenced by certainty effect, UE elicits points that well describe the curvature of the utility function, which is somewhat closer to the true function than the one of the lottery equivalence method (LE), and there is no increase in the width of the elicited UE uncertainty intervals compared to those of the certainty equivalence method (CE). This paper analyzes these assumptions quantitatively on the basis of empirical data from 104 volunteers who constructed their utility functions over monetary prizes using CE, LE and UE. The data was analyzed with the help of four one-tail statistical tests for paired samples. Results showed that: 1) UE results are not influenced by the certainty effect, unlike CE; 2) the UE utility function is more curved than that of LE, but that might be associated with the better selection of approximation nodes and not with the certainty effect; 3) the length of the UE uncertainty intervals is greater than that of the CE intervals, perhaps because of higher complexity of the method, but the increase is only by 30%.

The global existence theorem of classical solutions for one-dimensional nonlinear thermoelasticity is proved for small and smooth initial data in the case of a bounded reference configuration for a homogeneous medium, considering the Neumann type boundary conditions: traction free and insulated. Moreover, the asymptotic behaviour of solutions is investigated.

Opis:
One of the key elements in describing the flow of floodwaters is to determine the resistance created by friction acting along the surface wetted by water and created by objects directly washed by water. Flow resistance (roughness) influences flow velocity, water level, and, consequently, the river's capacity (Aberle 2020). This paper analyses the effect of the manner of defining roughness coefficients in one-dimensional models on the stability of these models and the results of model calculations. Three methods of defining the transverse variation of roughness coefficient in cross sections were used in the model calculations: Distributed, High/Low Flow Zones and Uniform. The greatest model stability, the highest flow rate values and the lowest water table ordinates were obtained when Distributed was selected. This has a major impact on determining the extent of flood hazard zones.

The bifurcation set as a topological invariant for one-dimensional dynamics

For a continuous map on the unit interval or circle, we define the bifurcation set to be the collection of those interval holes whose surviving set is sensitive to arbitrarily small changes of (some of) their endpoints. By assuming a global perspective and focusing on the geometric and topological properties of this collection rather than the surviving sets of individual holes, we obtain a novel topological invariant for one-dimensional dynamics. We provide a detailed description of this invariant in the realm of transitive maps and observe that it carries fundamental dynamical information. In particular, for transitive non-minimal piecewise monotone maps, the bifurcation set encodes the topological entropy and strongly depends on the behavior of the critical points.

Opis:
This article is dedicated to the study of numerical simulation of temperature field distribution in rolling mill with many cages for continuous casting and rolling stripe of metal wire. In work the simplest is used in use, certainly a steady, economic difference method, a method of division of variables of a multidimensional task into a chain of one-dimensional tasks, a method of total approximation, the locally one-dimensional scheme. The algorithm of numerical modeling of distribution of a temperature field on cages of the rolling mill is constructed. Solutions of the three dimensional temperature field distribution tasks based on experimental data allows finding the temperature across the strip of metal rod in a rolling mill stands. Calculation of the distribution of temperature field in hearth of deformation of a metal rod was realized on implicit scheme. The calculations are shown in the graphs. It provides an analysis of the error of errors.
