Opis:
Regulating the illuminance distribution of an LED collimator to produce a uniform illumination in both the near field and the far field is a challenge in illumination design. In this paper, we present an effective method for designing two separated freeform lenses to control the illuminance distribution and the direction of the rays from the LED. The first lens redistributes the ray energy, and the second one collimates them to obtain a uniform collimated illumination. According to the conservation law of energy, Snell’s law, Fermat’s law and tangent-plane iterative method, the two freeform surfaces could be calculated simultaneously. The simulation results show that the two freeform lenses can control most of rays into an angle within ±1.5° for an LED with 1 × 1 mm size. The illuminance uniformities are higher than 0.9 in both the near field and the far field.

Opis:
Due to outstanding light shaping potential, freeform optical surfaces have been considered theoretically from centuries. Recently, they gained increased interest due to the availability of manufacturing technologies. Nevertheless, the design of freeform surfaces still becomes a challenge, associated with advanced mathematical concepts and significant computing power. In this work, a very interesting unification of theories is mentioned. It is shown how the problem of optimal redistribution of mass, analyzed in the 18th century, corresponds to the problem of optical beam shaping realized by freeform surface. Both issues are governed by the same partial differential equation. In the paper, a novel numerical algorithm for solving this partial differential equation is discussed. As an example, a design of freeform lens, capable of casting completely arbitrary shapes, is presented.

Opis:
Enhancing image brightness under low light conditions is crucial. The traditional night vision technology depends on the development of photoelectric materials and accurate image processing algorithms. Inspired by the structure of elephant-nose fish, we construct a bionic image intensifier (BII) model. The BII is a planar array based on the concentrating principle of the compound parabolic concentrator (CPC). This solution is based on pure optical design and independent. Through light tracing, the simulation results show that the brightness of the image is improved and good image uniformity is obtained. Quantitative analysis of the geometric concentration ratio (GCR) and the image uniformity is used to optimize CPC structure parameters. At the same time, we also discuss the influence of CPC structural parameters on image continuity, uniformity and geometric concentration ratio. The optimization results are as follows: the input port diameter is 50 μm, the output port diameter is 10 μm, the height is 90 μm, the GCR is 5.61, and the image uniformity is 95.30%. The comprehensive performance of the BII achieves the best.

Opis:
In the paper, an effective way to design asymmetrical optics for a uniform vertical surface illumination was presented. Assessment of the obtained distribution of luminance (illuminance) on the illuminated surface is done almost at the same time as designing the optical system elements. Advantage of the final application of the presented method in 3D will be independence from the implementation of time-consuming simulations in order to verify the already designed optics. Understanding the method and its application is simple and intuitive. Observing the luminance distribution, created on the illuminated surface almost at the same time as its design, allows to see the effect of adding the next elements of the optical system on this distribution.

Opis:
We propose an optical system employing a compound parabolic concentrator for near infrared spectroscope in noninvasive blood components testing. A truncated two-stage compound parabolic concentrator system is designed, which consists of a normal first-stage compound parabolic concentrator and a truncated second-stage compound parabolic concentrator. Using advanced ray tracing technique, the optical efficiencies of truncated two-stage compound parabolic concentrator system, ellipsoidal mirror system and non-optical-focusing mirror system are calculated to be 25.4%, 22.4% and 4.0%, respectively. Furthermore, the total length of truncated two-stage compound parabolic concentrator is only about 68 mm while the ellipsoidal mirror is 110 mm. It indicates that the truncated two-stage compound parabolic concentrator system enhances the ability of concentrating human diffuse transmission light, and it is a benefit to improve signal-to-noise ratio of noninvasive biochemical analysis system efficiently. Due to the advantage of small size, it tends to achieve a miniature instrument.

We present 30 fs pulse duration home-made chirped pulse amplification Ti:sapphire laser system operating at a repetition rate of 1 kHz with 4.0 mJ pulse energy. The Ti:sapphire laser system with ım819 nm center wavelength has a long-cavity oscillator, four pass grating stretcher, 8-pass pre-amplifier, 4-pass post-amplifier and a double pass grating compressor. The Peltier coolers and thermal eigenmode post-amplifier are introduced to compensate the thermal lensing of the crystal in the amplifiers and to enhance the beam focusability on the crystal. The Strehl ratio and M² value measured by employing the Shack-Hartman wavefront sensor HASO4 to observe the spatial profile and beam quality. The most sensitive single-shot second harmonic generation frequency-resolved optical gating diagnostic technique is employed to characterize intensity and phase of the output compressed laser pulses.

Opis:
This paper presents modern methods for designing optical systems for luminaires in the context of long years of light sources development. It shows that the development of technology for producing increasingly precise optical systems has led to an evolution in the construction of luminaires with increased efficacy and utilizing more efficiently the features of a specific family of light sources. Methods for designing and modelling optical systems with the use of mathematical curves as well as advanced the free-forming method are described. The paper also shows methods for modelling light sources features, especially luminance ones, designed to make precise simulation calculations required in any luminaire design process. Knowledge of luminance distributions of light sources and precise luminance distributions of optical systems for luminaires raises the design process to a very high level, enabling positive modern light source features, such as high luminance and their small dimensions, to be used consciously while minimizing negative ones, such as discomfort glare, caused by luminaires. The paper presents the results of simulation calculations and laboratory measurements for a selected case of luminaire equipped with a discharge lamp of maximum luminance exceeding 30 million cd/m2.

Opis:
Designing, optimizing and analyzing optical systems as part of the implementation process into production of modern luminaires require using advanced simulation and computational methods. The progressive miniaturization of LED (light emitting diode) chips and growth in maximum luminance values, achieving up to 108 cd/m2, require constructing very accurate geometries of reflector and lens systems producing complex luminous intensity distributions while reducing discomfort glare levels. Currently, the design process cannot function without advanced simulation methods. Today’s simulation methods in the lighting technology offer very good results as far as relatively large conventional light sources such as halogen lamps, metal halide lamps and high pressure sodium lamps are concerned. Unfortunately, they often fail in the case of chip-on-board LED light sources whose luminous surface dimensions are increasingly often contained inside a cube of the side length below 1mm. With the high sensitivity of such small chips and lenses with dimensions ranging from a just a few to between 10 and 20 mm, which is presented in this paper, modern luminance distribution measurement methods, luminance modelling and ray tracing methods should be used to minimize any errors arising from incorrectly projecting the design in the final physical model. Also, very importantly, focus should be directed towards reducing a chance of making a mistake while collimating the position of the light source inside the optical system. The paper presents a novel simulation calculation method enriched with an analysis of optical system sensitivity to a light source position. The results of simulation calculations are compared with the results of laboratory measurements for corresponding systems.

Opis:
A calculation model to obtain the optimal combination of Offner–Wynne imaging spectrometer parameters to balance the RMS spot radius of the chief ray over the entire field is established. On the basis of the calculation model, an Offner–Wynne imaging spectrometer is designed, and then it is applied in a short-wave infrared coded aperture snapshot spectral imager (CASSI). The optical system of the short-wave infrared CASSI is designed by a combination method of independent design and integrated optimization. The spectral smile and spectral keystone of the optical system which operates in the 900–1700 nm band are respectively less than half a pixel. The focal length of the optical system is 1200 mm, the total optical system length is 775mm, and its average spectral resolution is 16 nm. The optical system offers the advantages of excellent imaging quality, compact optical structure, high optical transmittance, reduced spectral smile and spectral keystone.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono miniaturowy wyświetlacz o rozdzielczości 852x600 przeznaczony do kamer termowizyjnych. Układ optyczny składa się z trzech soczewek. Wykonano obliczenia aberracyjne. Pierwsza dedykowana do celownika CTS-1, zasilana z celownika. Druga z własnym zasilaniem - autonomiczna.
The paper presents a miniature, external display device for thermal cameras. It is built on an OLED panel of 852x600 pixels. The optical system consists of three lenses (Fig.3). The unwanted effect of user's face illumination was investigated. The results of calculations of aberrations carried out with the ZEMAX software are included. The typical aberrations as well as the field curvature and distortions achieved an acceptable level (Fig. 4). The sufficient resolution was obtained for intended applications of the presented device (Fig. 5). The ±2 D diopter adjustment is provided. The display is controlled by a microprocessor circuit which also controls the simple user and serial communication interface. The durable casing was designed to provide adequate protection against electromagnetic interference. There are two versions of microdisplay. One, intended to enhance the capabilities of CTS-1 thermal weapon sight, drives the power from it. The second, a standalone device can display video signals from various thermal cameras and has its own Li-Ion battery. The operating temperature range is from -20ºC to +60ºC. The basic technical specifications are presented in Table 1.
