Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of the study was a critical analysis of the concept of positive psychological capital (PsyCap) and an indication of ts applicability in organizations that implemented participatory management. Methodology: The study was based on the review and comparative analysis of literature. The theoretical foundations of the concept and its practical translation into organization reality, as well as the results of a meta-analysis of the impact of PsyCap on employee attitudes, behavior and performance, was presented. The limitations of this concept in the context of participatory management were also indicated. Findings: Conducted debate supported the conclusion that the development of employee self-efficacy, hope, optimism and resilience can contribute to strengthening participatory attitudes among workers, and thus enhancing the efficiency of the entire organization. However under several conditions, employee positive psychological states were treated not as organizational resources but as an integral part of themselves. Employees felt responsible for their personal development and development of their own PsyCap was optional. Originality: The study dealt with the relatively new issue of a psychological capital management in organizations that could provide an alternative to the classical human capital management. Its implementation in organizations with participatory management has not yet been discussed in the management literature.

Derkacz, A.J. General concept of neo-institutional measurements of business processes. Journal of Intercultural Management, vol. 11, No. 4/2019, ss. 28-80.
Opis:
Objective: General concept of neo-institutional measurements of business processes is an approach developed by the author, which fits in with the practical search for appropriate methods and tools that would optimize effectiveness and efficiency of business process management. The objective of the following discussion is to prove the thesis that effectiveness of business processes that take place within a company depends on the quality of support of such processes that is included in the set of supporting factors, as well as on neo-institutional determinants of business processes. Methodology: In the article, the author used primarily long-term observations of the functioning of enterprises, critical literature analysis and thought experiment. Findings: The concept was based on long-term of author's experience in business management and it was essentially grounded in the model of the new institutional economics. On the basis of critical analysis of the literature and with the use of empirical research results from different industries and countries, it defines four hypotheses, which make ground for the concept in question. These are: hypothesis of rational change of condition, hypothesis of expected determinants of business processes, hypothesis of rational determinants of business processes and intensity of impact hypothesis. Value Added: The concept presents a new holistic and behavioral method for business processes analysis. Recommendations: The general concept of neo-institutional measurements of business processes may become a new economic approach concerning the issues of effectiveness and efficiency of business processes, but also it may become the ground for creation of a new catalogue of recommendations for managers, who, on a daily basis, make difficult managerial decisions.

Opis:
By adopting an empirical and rational approach, this article investigates the influence of ethics on decision-taking in business based on case studies dating back to 50 years ago. It contrasts theoretical principles of ethics and the actual market activities of businesses by taking a closer look at two ethically controversial events from the automotive and pharmaceutical industry where human life and health was at risk. The foregoing analysis demonstrates that, where profit maximisation is at stake, businesses are prompted to take advantage of imprecise laws or absence of legal provisions, and manipulate data to protect its interests at the expense of product liability and consumer/patient safety.

Expectations for contemporary corporations include not only their conduct in accordance with law and standards but also their social responsibility. However, even incorporation of CSR concept into strategy does not guarantee the absence of socially irresponsible practices. This paper presents a comparison of these two concepts – corporate social responsibility and corporate social irrespinsibility (CSI) – and explains why they are not simply opposing approaches.

Opis:
The aim of the article in the theoretical layer based on the analysis of the literature on the subject is a description of the concept of diversity and identification of the main indicators of behavioral differentiation in selected aspects of primary identity (gender and age). On the other hand, the empirical goal, the explanation of the gender and age, differentiates the character of the employee‑organization relationship (in four distinct components: location of responsibility for tasks, location of sources of knowledge, location of development responsibility and localization of identification). The article presents the results of empirical research in 2015, on a sample, randomly selected population of 2,274 employees from 40 Polish companies.

Opis:
Purpose: This study presents a nine-factor, 32-item measure of work environment scale in the service sector. A healthy work environment is one in which employees trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do, and enjoy working with the people (Levering and Moskowitz, 2004). Methodology: This instrument builds on the conceptual model espoused by Insel and Moos (1974), Gordon (1973), Fletcher and Nusbaum (2010), Amabile et al. (1996), and Spector (2003). The scale included items elicited through a literature review, the use of the Delphi technique with a panel of experts, and tested on 824 full-time employees from nine service sector industries and five major cities in India. Findings: The Work Environment Services Scale (WESS) is a reliable and valid scale useful for measuring the nine work environment factors in the Indian services organization, with its own norms and a detailed manual. Originality/Value: The prevailing scales for measuring work environment do not capture the influence of ethics, recreation facilities, and the impact of social giving on the work environment. Most scales were suitable for sectors in the Western context, and there were no Indian scales measuring service employees’ perception of their work environment.
