Opis:: The standard obligatory use of unethical vaccines derived from aborted human foetuses is currently a significant moral theological problem. It forms a serious dilemma of conscience especially when people become aware of the connection between their own actions and the morally wrong act committed by another person. However, a few years after the release of the declaration of Pontifical Academy for Life Moral Reflections on Vaccines Prepared from Cells Derived from Aborted Human Foetuses (5th May 2005), this serious problem was pushed into oblivion. Opis:: The Catholic Church over the centuries went through a process of evolution of its attitude regarding war as a social problem. The revision of the „just war” theory, the author of which was Saint Augustine of Hippo, was mainly caused by the events of World War II. Therefore, the main goal of the paper is to show the standpoint of popes in the second half of XX century regarding armed conflict, starting with Pius XII and ending with John Paul II. After the analysis of the research materials, it can be concluded that according to the teachings of papacy, every justification of warfare should be always preceded by rejection and condemnation of war as a „normal” way of solving a conflict. War, even if it removes injustice, is not a permanent solution. Of course, condemnation of war and showing its destructive character never meant the complete rejection of all forms of armed resistance. The popes have implemented to the „just war” theory the dictate to prevent any armed conflict. Their actions were to, most of all, support „building peace around the world”.

Opis:: There are numerous publications concerning blessed John Paul II. Various aspects of his life and teaching are analysed. The aim of this study is to show, basing on papal teaching and testimony of life, blessed John Paul II as the teacher of prayer. Firstly, the term “teacher of prayer” is explained. Next, the contents regarding prayer that John Paul II underlined in his teaching and aimed at the clergy, laics, adults, children, teenagers, the sick and suffering, is discussed. It gives a chance to characterise his attitude as a witness who through his life taught about prayer. Underlining the effectivness of his prayer – not only after death but also during his life, is a completion of above mentioned issues.

Opis:: This paper presents the value and role of empathy in the contemporary world. Sensitivity and empathy take crucial places in the pastoral activity of the Holy Catholic Church. Tenderness and compassion are important issues in Pope Francis’ teaching. In papal understanding, Christian dialog involves sensitivity and empathy, which let one fulfill Christ’s command to love one’s neighbor. This article explores the idea of a Christian view on empathy and brotherhood referring to official papal documents. This topic is currently crucial due to increasing splits, aggression and individualism. The paper looks for an answer how empathetic should the Church approach to the world be and according to the Pope’s teaching, how should the Church dialog profitably with people.
Artykuł podejmuje kwestię wartości i roli empatii w dialogu, do którego szczególnie wezwani są chrześcijanie. Wrażliwość i umiejętność współodczuwania z odbiorcą eklezjalnego przepowiadania jest jednym z kluczowych elementów papieskiego nauczania. Zdolność do dialogu naznaczonego empatią wydaje się dla papieża Franciszka niezwykle istotną składową braterstwa, które jest realizacją ewangelicznego imperatywu wobec wspólnoty Kościoła. W niniejszym tekście została podjęta próba syntetycznego przedstawienia kluczowych dokumentów papieskich wzywających do braterskiego dialogu, który pozwala postawić opór fali indywidualizmu i budować mosty mimo różnic i podziałów.

It is a serious dilemma of conscience the situation when people become aware of the connection between their own actions and the morally wrong act committed by other person form a serious conscience dilemma. However, a few years after the release of declaration Pontifical Academy for Life Moral Reflections on Vaccines Prepared from Cells Derived from Aborted Human Foetuses (05.06.2005), this serious problem was pushed into oblivion. The moral assessment is still dominated by the consequentionalism and the proportionalism which reject papal Magisterium ordinarium.

Od samego momentu wyboru na Stolicę Piotrową w dniu 13 marca 2013 roku papież Franciszek jest postacią wzbudzającą rozliczne kontrowersje i dyskusje w wielu różnorodnych środowiskach. Niestandardowe działania, wykraczające często poza przyjęte za oczywiste reguły sprawowania urzędu papieskiego oraz bezkompromisowe, komunikowane za pomocą prostego przekazu przesłanie charakteryzują pontyfikat Franciszka. Jego nietuzinkowość powoduje czasem konfuzję i wpływa na nieoczywistość recepcji papieskiej aktywności, która dalece wykracza poza schematyczne podziały w rodzaju „wierni Kościoła katolickiego/osoby poza Kościołem katolickim” czy „prawica/lewica”.

This article is an attempt to describe Papal Council Iustitia et Pax activities through the concept of human capital, which is one of the most important factors of economic growth and development. Simultaneously, the issue has been explored in scholarly literature. Human capital consists largely of several factors like a knowledge, talent, entrepreneurship and health possessed by a person. Therefore, it can be assumed that at least certain religious institutions are capable of creating human capital. Papal Council Iustitia et Pax, which was active between 1967–2017, is one of them.

Opis:: The author of the article claims that Pope Francis, like his predecessors, sees the ideas of dignitas humana and bonum commune as the basis of social teaching, arguing that human rights stem from the inalienable human dignity. The pope rejects the Marxist ideology and appeals for the Christian understanding of private property. He stresses the need for environmental protection and calls for the use of the preferential option for the poor. Pope Francis also supports the traditional Catholic understanding of the marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman, while also emphasising the differences between them. When all is taken into account, it has to be observed that the pope’s social teaching falls in line with that of his predecessors.
Według autora artykułu papież Franciszek, tak jak jego poprzednicy, za fundament nauczania społecznego uważa idee dignitas humana i bonum commune. To właśnie dzięki temu, że ludzie posiadają niezbywalną godność, przysługują im prawa człowieka. Papież odrzuca ideologię marksistowską i apeluje o chrześcijańskie rozumienie własności prywatnej. Silny nacisk kładzie na ochronę środowiska naturalnego i wzywa do stosowania opcji preferencyjnej na rzecz ubogich. Opowiada się też za tradycyjnym, katolickim rozumieniem rodziny jako związku mężczyzny i kobiety oraz akceptuje istniejące pomiędzy nimi różnice. W oparciu o powyższe zasadna jest teza, że nauczanie społeczne papieża Franciszka nie odbiega zasadniczo od nauczania jego poprzedników.

Prezentując rzeczywistość wiary, w pierwszej kolejności ukazano pojęcie i treść wiary chrześcijańskiej, następnie zapoznano z wybranymi cechami charakterystycznymi dla wiary w ujęciu św. Jana Pawła II, a także główne zagrożenia i trudności wiary, na jakie napotyka współczesny człowiek w jej przyjęciu i kształtowaniu.
The faith is the foundation of a believer’s life and it has a huge importance for him. It raises believers to a higher personal level of existence. It enables each man to overcome difficulties and crises as well as it motivates for good and heroic actions. The faith organizes life around values, opens people to their neighbor’s world and history. While studying the teachings of Pope Saint John Paul II, we discover that the problem of faith occupies a central place in it. The hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Polish Pope became an inspiration for the author of this publication to reach for the teaching of this Saint Pope. In the present publication there will be shown selected issues helping to understand the richness of the Christian faith in a believer’s living. While presenting the reality of faith the accent will firstly be put on the concept and content of Christian faith, then the author will show the selected characteristic features of the faith in the view of Saint John Paul II as well as the main threats and difficulties of faith, encountered by modern man in its acceptance and formation.

Opis:: Traditionally Catholicism has been perceived as unfriendly to the capitalist economy. Protestantism’s image is different: it has been regarded as a religious movement which boosted the so-called spirit of capitalism. The aim of this article is to raise a question whether today’s Catholicism still deserves that characterization as a denomination biased against capitalism. This issue is of considerable importance for business ethicists who are interested in the moral condition of market economy and, quite often, in the impact of religion on economic culture. Many of them are Catholics themselves and their religion seems to be a real source of inspiration for the ethical analyses of economic life they present. This article offers a number of arguments to the effect that although Catholic social teaching originated in the pre-modern, medieval period, it has changed to a large degree due to several papal encyclicals in the 20th century. Centesimus annus by John Paul II should be mentioned here as an epochal message expressing approval of human creativity and entrepreneurship. This new perspective was also due to Catholic philosophers and theologians such as Michael Novak and other members of the neoconservative movement in the United States.
