Opis:
As increasingly more bicycles are equipped with electrically powered pedal assistance, they can become the solution for the continuous congestion that threatens Europe. Pedal assistance decreases the effort, though cyclists often experience sores that occur at the low back, knees and bottom area. The risk of injuries is predominantly determined by the pedal technique, which is highly dependent of bicycle design, seat type and cycling posture. The optimal cycling technique and the relation to the bicycle characteristics needs to be discovered to create guidelines for bicycle construction and usage. This paper presents the design of a low-cost measurement system to analyse three-dimensional pedal loads in function of the pedal cycle by an instrumented pedal and an absolute encoder fixated on the crank. The pedal proposed is a combination of a unique steel sensor with twelve sensor regions, organized in four full Wheatstone bridges, installed on a standard pedal spindle. The pedals are calibrated with the Global Regression method acquiring a calibration matrix with a standard error percentage of full scale of maximum 0.5%. The instrumented pedal distinguishes itself from state-of-the-art techniques through (i) compatibility: it fits on every conventional bicycle, (ii) compactness: not influencing the cycling kinematics, (iii) broad applicability: it is applicable for in-situ measurements with extreme manoeuvres and (iv) accuracy: it delivers a relative high accuracy in relation to the production precision and production costs.

Opis:
The paper analyzes a pedaling technique with platform pedals in which the influence of the geometric and tribological parameters on the torque course of the active forces in the crank rotation axis is determined. Distribution of forces of feet acting on pedals as a function of the crank rotation angle was performed and on this basis the specific pedaling zones and their ranges and the courses of the value of variable active torque and pedaling work during the full cycle were determined. The course of changes in the movements in the ankle joint is described with a function depending on the crank and limb position and loading of the joint. A numerical example has also been presented and a discussion of the results has been carried out.

Opis:
The wavelength of moment of active forces (driving forces) for a full cycle while pedaling with platform pedals was determined. There was defined the value of moment of passive forces, depending on drag, rolling resistance and grade of surface. Kinematic motion parameters were determined from the equation of motion of the machine, which was solved numerically. In numerical example, there were determined and compared the temporal courses of bicycle speed for possible gear ratios for the two different waveforms of the driving torque – the determined, the time-varying and the constant ones. There were compared extreme values of active and passive forces, the kinetic energy of the bike and work expended by the rider at a specified time.

The past two decades have witnessed a modest increase in publications dealing with language used to describe sexual minorities (Kulick 2000). The aim of this paper is to present qualitative study results based on individual interviews conducted in 2018. The responses of 39 heterosexual women and men, aged 13-75 and living in Warsaw, Poland, were analysed with the purpose of exploring the variety of meanings and forms of language concerning homosexuality. The research shows that the linguistic representations of lesbians and gay men within heterosexual speech acts are situated between euphemisms and unrefined colloquial terms which function as degrading labels that tend to be applied in various contexts. The words known and used within the study group differ depending on the participants’ age and gender. However, it should be noted that the purpose of this study was not to investigate heterosexuals as a discrete community of language-users. Rather, its justification is conceptual and has to do with the way in which we understand the place of gendered and sexual non-heteronormativity in the ever-changing social landscape. In this context, a set of discourses and practices is a site through which the expressions of gender difference, power, and subjectivity are articulated, and one that, by extension, further influences our linguistic behaviours.

W pracy przedstawiono konstrukcję prototypu oryginalnego trójkołowego pojazdu napędzanego pedałami ze wspomaganiem elektrycznym, bez sprzężenia mechanicznego korby pedałów z kołami. Każde z kół pojazdu jest napędzane przez bezszczotkowy silnik elektryczny (BLDC). Pedały napędzają generator, który ładuje baterię akumulatorów. Zaprojektowany został układ dystrybucji energii, zapewniający bezpieczne zachowanie się napędów pojazdu w warunkach awaryjnych. Zaprojektowane i zbudowane zostały centralny układ sterowania oraz dedykowane przekształtniki energoelektroniczne, a całość komunikacji odbywa się z wykorzystaniem protokołu CAN-open. Jako jednostkę sterującą zastosowano układ STM32F407, który pełni rolę sterownika we wszystkich podsystemach pojazdu. Prędkość pojazdu jest proporcjonalna, z nastawianym współczynnikiem, do prędkości pedałowania, natomiast moc dostarczana do silników poszczególnych kół jest odpowiednio większa od mocy generowanej przez rowerzystę. Dużą uwagę zwrócono na ergonomiczne właściwości układu napędowego, dopasowując charakterystykę momentu oporowego generatora do naturalnej charakterystyki pedałowania. W ten sposób układ napędowy zachowuje się analogicznie do klasycznego roweru mechanicznego.
The paper presents the construction of a prototype of an original three-wheeled electrically powered vehicle. The vehicle is driven by pedals without mechanical coupling of the crank handle with the wheels. Each of the vehicles wheels is driven by a brushless electric motor (BLDC). The pedals drive a generat or that charges the battery. The power distribution system has been designed to ensure the safe behaviour of the vehicle's drives under emergency conditions. The central control system and dedicated power electronic converters have been designed and built, and all communicationis performed using the CAN-open protocol. STM32F407 is used as the control unit for all subsystems. Thespeed of the vehicle is proportional to the pedalling speed, with a variable factor, and the power supplied to the motors of the individual wheels is correspondingly higher than the cycling power. Considerable attention was paid to the ergonomic characteristics of the drive unit, adjusting the torque characteristics of the generator to the natural characteristics of the pedal system. In this way, the drive system behaves similarly to a classic mechanical bike.

Opis:
A right theropod pedal ungual phalanx II-3 from the Campanian Williams Fork Formation of northwestern Colorado is described, and a combination of features, including the large size, tapering distal tip, robust and stout overall form, triangular cross-section, and a relatively flat ventral surface allows a confident referral to Tyrannosauridae Osborn, 1906. Although this specimen was found in a relatively southern state, the proximal articular surface of this ungual is similar to that of Gorgosaurus libratus Lambe, 1914, a taxon found in the northern state, Alberta. Although based on limited evidence, this may suggest that the range of tyrannosaurids considered endemic to the north of Laramidia extended farther south than previously thought.
