Opis:
In this study, the Fusarium Brachygibbosum fungus isolate FIR 16_ITS was isolated for the first time from the infected wheat plants in Iraq, during the winter of 2018, in the AL-Tewatha region – 20 km south east of Baghdad. In order to verify the identity of the species of the F. brachygibbosum isolate FIR 16_ITS with the growth symptoms on the wheat plants, the wheat seeds and tissue plants were obtained and used as a source for the re-isolation of the infection agent. F. brachygibbosum isolate FIR 16_ITS was hardly identified using visual approach. However, a molecular technique is important in verifying the species of F. brachygibbosum isolate FIR 16_ITS. The isolate obtained was used for the extraction of DNA and later used for the molecular identification and phylogenetic analyses based on rDNA-internal transcribed region (ITS) primer sets. The authors successfully obtained the amplified products of the ITS-rDNA region, and a sequence analysis indicated that the Fusarium sp. isolate FIR 16_ITS species screened in this study belonged to the F. brachygibbosum species. It was recorded in the NCBI under the following information NCBI; BioSample; Accession no.; SAMN11408139; ID: 11408139 and NCBI; BioProject; Accession no.; PRJNA532637; ID: 679434 (Locus Tag Prefix; E7750).

Opis:
Analyses and visualizations by the ISSCOR method of influenza virus hemagglutinin genes of different A-subtypes revealed some rather striking temporal relationships between groups of individual gene subsets. Based on these findings we consider application of the ISSCOR-PCA method for analyses of large sets of homologous genes to be a worthwhile addition to a toolbox of genomics - allowing for a rapid diagnostics of trends, and ultimately even aiding an early warning of newly emerging epidemiological threats.

Opis:
Rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) belongs to the family Caliciviridae and is the etiological agent of the haemorrhagic disease, also known as rabbit plague. Its genome is a linear single-stranded (ss) RNA of 7437 nucleotides and the capsid is built from a single structural protein VP60. In connection with the discovery of new RHDV strains, there is a constant need to investigate the genetic variation of this virus and perform phylogenetic analyses which may show the evolutionary relationships among the RHDV strains. Studies on the divergence of RHDV have shown that it is genetically quite stable, although recent observations indicate that some new RHDV strains, significantly different from the original RHDV subtype and the new RHDVa subtype, are appearing. These latest findings suggest that a new group of RHDV strains has evolved. The present review summarizes the current knowledge on the genetic variation and the latest achievements in phylogenetic analyses of RHDV strains isolated in various countries.

Opis:
Tachysoma pellionellum Stokes, 1887, a freshwater ciliate isolated from Stone Mountain State Park, North Carolina, was studied in vivo and after staining with protargol. The population was characterized mainly by having the typical 18 frontal-ventral-transverse cirri; posterior ends of left and right marginal rows not confluent; five dorsal kineties and one dorsomarginal kinety; two macronuclear nodules near left cell margin with one or two micronuclei between them; contractile vacuole located at mid-body near left margin. Morphogenesis is characterized as follows: (1) in the proter, the parental adoral zone of membranelles is retained completely; (2) 18 frontal-ventral-transverse cirri are derived from the anlage of the undulating membrane and the five streaks of the frontal-ventral-transverse anlagen; (3) marginal rows develop intrakinetally; (4) anlagen of dorsal kineties 1, 2 and 4 develop in the parental structure and anlagen of dorsal kineties 2 and 4 fragment in the posterior region forming anlagen of dorsal kineties 3 and 5; (5) only one dorsomarginal kinety formed; (6) the two macronuclear nodules fuse into a single mass, which then divides. Phylogenetic analyses based on sequences of the gene coding for SSU RNA revealed a close relationship between T. pellionellum and the Oxytricha clade, both of which grouped with Kleinstyla dorsicirrata and Heterourosomoida lanceolata.

Opis:
This paper investigates the morphology and morphogenesis during binary fission of a Chinese population of Euplotes amieti Dragesco, 1970, a fresh water form which has previously not been well defined. This organism is morphologically very similar to the well-known Euplotes eurystomus but differs from the latter both in the number of dorsal kineties and the molecular data. According to the information obtained, it is characterized by a combination of features including nine frontoventral cirri, ca. 60 membranelles, 12–15 dorsal kineties, a macronucleus in the shape of the number 3, and a ‘double-eurystomus’ type of silverline system. Its morphogenesis proceeds broadly in the same pattern as in its congeners. In this study, the SSU rRNA gene was sequenced for the first time, and phylogenetic analyses indicated that it is closely related to the eurystomus-aediculatus-woodruffi- complex. Considering the extreme similarities in morphology between E. amieti and E.eurystomus, we believe that the four sequences (four isolates) under the name of Euplotes eurystomus (No. FR873716; FR873717; EF193250; AJ310491 deposited in GenBank) are very likely from misidentified material; that is, they represent different populations of Euplotes amieti.

Opis:
Septins belong to GTPases that are involved in vital cellular activities, including cytokinesis. Although present in many organisms, they are yet to be isolated from Aedes albopictus. This study reports for the first time on a serendipitous isolation of a partial septin sequence from Ae. albopictus and its developmental expression profile. The Ae. albopictus partial septin sequence contains 591 nucleotides encoding 197 amino acids. It shares homology with several insect septin genes and has a close phylogenetic relationship with Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus septins. The Ae. albopictus septin fragment was differentially expressed in the mosquito's developmental stages, with an increased expression in the adults.
