Opis:
The application of screw displacement piles (SDP) is still increasing due to their high efficiency and many advantages. However, one technological problem is a serious disadvantage of those piles. It relates to the generation of very high soil resistance during screw auger penetration, especially when piles are installed in non-cohesive soils. In many situations this problem causes difficulties in creating piles of designed length and diameter. It is necessary to find a proper method for prediction of soil resistance during screw pile installation. The analysis of screw resistances based on model and field tests is presented in the paper. The investigations were carried out as part of research project, financed by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. As a result of tests and analyses the empirical method for prediction of rotation resistance (torque) during screw auger penetration in non-cohesive subsoil based on CPT is proposed.

Opis:
Occurrence of the so-called residual force of an unknown value significantly disturbs interpretation of static load tests performed on piles equipped with additional measuring instruments. Screw displacement piles are the piling technology in which the residual force phenomenon is very common. Its formation mechanism is closely related to the installation method of this type of piles, which initiates generation of negative pile skin friction without any additional external factors. Knowledge of the value and distribution of a residual force (trapped in a pile shaft before starting the load test) is a necessary condition for the proper interpretation of instrumented pile test results. In this article, a clear and easy-to-use method of residual force identification, based on the analysis of shaft deformations recorded during pile unloading is presented. The method was successfully verified on two pile examples and proved to be effective and practical.

Opis:
The paper presents technological changes concerning not only the method of construction, but also the materials used. Another aspect is the methods of calculating the load-bearing capacity and settlement of piles. With acceptance for use the PN-EN:1997-1:2008 standard in 2010, it was necessary to change the approaches applied that based on many years of experience and tradition. The best method in this case is to forecast the full load-settlement characteristics. On the basis of the collected data, a comparative analysis of particular displacement piles technologies was made. The usefulness of individual methods of load-bearing capacity calculation depending on the pile technology was determined.

Opis:
Numerical simulations of a pile jacking were carried out. A Coupled Eulerian–Lagrangian (CEL) formulation was used to treat with large deformation problems. An Abaqus, a commercial Finite Element Method software suit, was used as a computing environment. The Mohr–Coulomb constitutive model was applied and the Coulomb model of friction was used to describe pile-soil interaction. Calculations were made for three different pile diameters. Toe and shaft unit resistances versus depth for each pile were investigated and plotted. CPT-based solutions were compared with the results of numerical simulations.

Opis:
The idea of strengthening the foundation using injection piles lies in transferring loads from the foundation to the piles Anchorage in existing structure and formed in the soil. Such a system has to be able to transfer loads from the foundation to the pile and from the pile onto the soil. Pile structure often reinforced with steel element has to also be able to transfer such a loading. According to the rules of continuum mechanics, the bearing capacity of such a system and a deformation of its individual elements can be determined by way of an analysis of the contact problem of three interfaces. Each of these surfaces is determined by different couples of materials. Those surfaces create: pile-foundation anchorage, bonding between reinforcement and material from which the pile is formed and pilesoil interface. What is essential is that on the contact surfaces the deformation of materials which adhere to each other can vary and depends on the mechanical properties and geometry of these surfaces. Engineering practice and experimental research point out that the failure in such structures occurs at interfaces. The paper is concentrating on presenting the experiments on interaction between cement grout and various types of steel reinforcement. The tests were conducted on the special low pressure injection piles widely used to strengthen foundations of already existing structures of historical buildings due to the technology of formation and injection pressure.

Opis:
The necessity of optimising the foundation design encourages the use of methods based on in situ test results in the design of pile foundations. For this purpose, a cone penetration test (CPT) is commonly used. Design methods developed over the last few decades may differ not only in factors used for correlating the cone resistance with bearing capacity of a given type of pile foundation, but also in adoption of the representative cone resistance value for the calculations. Contrary to the design of pile foundation in relatively homogeneous ground conditions, in the case of heterogeneous stratifi cation, the infl uence of the quality of test itself and the adoption of the average cone resistance for the calculation may have significant impact on the result. This is especially important issue when weaker strata, which may affect the end-bearing capacity, is present just below the pile, in its area of influence. The article presents some of the methods of averaging the measured cone resistance, how they may affect the obtained results and other factors affecting mainly end-bearing capacity of a single compressed pile.

Opis:
In this paper, a numerical undrained analysis of pile jacking into the subsoil using Abaqus software suit has been presented. Two different approaches, including traditional Finite Element Method (FEM) and Arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) formulation, were tested. In the first method, the soil was modelled as a two-phase medium and effective stress analysis was performed. In the second one (ALE), a single-phase medium was assumed and total stress analysis was carried out. The fitting between effective stress parameters and total stress parameters has been presented and both solutions have been compared. The results, discussion and verification of numerical analyzes have been introduced. Possible applications and limitations of large deformation modelling techniques have been explained.

Opis:
Many geoengineering investments can be realized thanks to the use of piles, which may play numerous functions. The piles were classified in the paper in view of assumed criteria and most frequent applications. These works can be performed with specialist pile equipment. In the description attention was paid to the most important technical parameters of pile machines produced by such companies as Bauer, Casagrande and Soilmec. The multi-criteria method with a synthetic measure of evaluation was used for selecting the most suitable pile machine. Among the assumed criteria were the pull up/down force, torque, maximum depth and diameter of the pile and the main winch. The analysis of the obtained weights and criteria revealed that the Bauer pile machine BG 50 had the highest CCS pull up/down and torque and was most appropriate for making long and large-diameter piles.

Opis:
The formation of a pile in the existing foundation and soil creates a new foundation construction which has a structure of foundation-pile-soil. This construction must be able to transfer loads from the foundation to the pile and from the pile to the soil. The pile structure has to transfer an imposed load. From the point of view of continuum mechanics determination of the capacity of such a system is preceded by the analysis of contact problem of three contact surfaces. Each of these surfaces is determined by different pairs of materials. The pair which creates a pile anchorage is a material from which the foundation is built (structure of stone and grout, brick and grout, concrete or reinforced concrete and grout. The pile structure is formed by grout and steel rebar. The pile formed in soil is created by a pair of grout and soil. What is important is that on contact surfaces the materials adhering to one another are subjected to different deformation types that are controlled by mechanical properties and geometry of these surfaces. In the paper, additional conditions that should be fulfilled for the foundation-pile-soil system to make load transfer from foundation to soil possible and safe are presented. The results of research done by the author on foundation-pile contact surface are discussed. The tests were targeted at verifying the bearing capacity of anchorage and deformation of piles made of grout and other materials from which foundations are built. The specimens were tested in tension and compression. The experiments were conducted on the amount specimens which is regarded as small sample to enable the statistical analysis of the results.

Opis:
The interaction of piles with different lengths and the grillage in the foundations of high-rise buildings is considered. The numerical modeling of the «base – foundation – superstructure» system is performed. The redistribution of the efforts in piles depending on the sizes of a foundation slab and the parameters of piles (length and location) is investigated. Typical zones of a foundation such as central, lateral, and angular ones are separated. The redistribution of efforts between piles and a grillage is revealed.
Sprawdzone redystrybucję wytężenia pomiędzy palami a rusztem.
