Opis:: The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the biodegradability and biodegradation rates of ‘single-use' plastic bags available on the market and labeled as degradable/biodegradable. The test was carried out under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The project length was 20 months. The biodegradation results in the laboratory conditions demonstrate that none of the degradable/ biodegradable bags showed visual changes and/or were broken into pieces and none of them experienced any disintegration or degradation. The cellulose filter paper (CFP) completely degraded after 10 days in the aerobic conditions and after 5 month in the anaerobic conditions, implying that the conditions required for biodegradation to occur in a sampling environment were present.

Opis:: Artykuł dotyczy performatywnych aspektów narracji ekologicznych, rozpatrywanych na przykładzie kulturowego wizerunku foliówki. Plastikowe torby jednorazowego użytku są we współczesnej kulturze symbolem zbiorowych win związanych z rolą tworzyw sztucznych w katastrofie ekologicznej. Na ich percepcję wpływają rozmaite narracje ekologiczne i kampanie społeczne, w których obraz foliówki ma budzić strach, niechęć, złość czy obrzydzenie i utrwalać opinię o plastiku jako nienaturalnym materiale zanieczyszczającym planetę. Skuteczność tych narracji jest ograniczona, skoro plastikowych toreb w środowisku wciąż przybywa. Autorka zastanawia się, czy można wyobrazić sobie inne, mniej antropocentryczne i potencjalnie bardziej skuteczne sposoby nawiązywania relacji z jednorazowym plastikiem. Wykorzystuje metody performatyczne do analizy krótkometrażowego filmu Plastic Bag (reż. Ramin Bahrani, 2009). Interpretację filmu opiera głównie na witalnym materializmie Jane Bennett oraz ciemnej ekologii Timothy’ego Mortona, by ukazać foliówki jako sprawcze byty związane na wiele sposobów z otaczającym je światem, a także zaproponować odmienne spojrzenie na ich potencjalne role w więcej-niż-ludzkich relacjach.
This article considers the performative aspects of environmental narratives, based on the example of the cultural image of the plastic bag. In contemporary culture, disposable plastic bags have become a symbol of the collective guilt related to the role of plastics in the environmental catastrophe. Their perception is affected by various environmental narratives and social campaigns, in which the image of a plastic bag is to evoke fear, aversion, anger, or disgust, reinforcing the view of plastic as an unnatural material that pollutes the planet. The effectiveness of these narratives is limited, as the number of plastic bags in the environment continues to increase. The author explores the possibility of imagining other, less anthropocentric and potentially more effective modes of relating to single-use plastic. She uses performative methods to analyze the short film Plastic Bag (dir. Ramin Bahrani, 2009). Her interpretation draws mainly on Jane Bennett’s concept of vital materialism and Timothy Morton’s dark ecology to focus on the agency of plastic bags in various settings and offer a different perspective on their potential roles in more-than-human relationships.

Opis:: Wprowadzenie w życie Rozporządzenia Ministra Środowiska z dnia 8 grudnia 2017 roku w sprawie stawki opłaty recyklingowej nałożyło na przedsiębiorców obowiązek naliczania opłaty za jedną sztukę lekkiej torby na zakupy z tworzywa sztucznego w wysokości 0,20 zł. Podmiotem, na który oddziałuje ten nakaz są także konsumenci zmuszeni do ponoszenia dodatkowych kosztów związanych z zakupem tzw. „jednorazówek”, które charakteryzują się bardzo krótkim cyklem życia. Po przyniesieniu ich przez konsumenta do domu, najczęściej uznawane są za nieprzydatne, co skutkuje wyrzuceniem ich do kosza. Ze względu na niewielką masę toreb z tworzywa sztucznego, są one łatwo przemieszczane przez wiatr i wodę, co skutkuje wzrostem zanieczyszczenia ziemi oraz wód przez ten rodzaj odpadów. Stąd jednym z celów rozporządzenia jest ograniczenie liczby kupowanych „jednorazówek”, co pozwoli na zmniejszenie zanieczyszczenia środowiska naturalnego. Zakłada się, że rozsądny konsument wykorzysta wcześniej kupioną torbę bawełnianą wielokrotnego użytku, zamiast ciągłego nabywania „jednorazówek”.
Implementation of the Regulation of the Minister of the Environment of 8 December 2017 on the rate of the recycling fee imposed on entrepreneurs the obligation to charge a plastic shopping bag of PLN 0.20 for one piece. The entity subject to this order is also consumers forced to bear additional costs associated with the purchase of the so-called "disposables", which are characterized by a very short life cycle. After bringing them home by the consumer, they are usually considered useless, which results in throwing them into the bin. Due to the small weight of plastic bags, they are easily moved by wind and water, which results in an increase in soil and water pollution by this type of waste. Hence, one of the objectives of the regulation is to limit the number of purchased "disposables", which wi ll reduce environmental pollution. It is assumed that a reasonable consumer will use a previously purchased reusable cotton bag, instead of constantly purchasing "disposables".

Opis:: The increasing amount of plastic wastes has become a threat to the sustainability of all ecosystem in this Earth. This paper aims to provide an alternative utilization of plastic wastes as the raw material in the manufacturing process of woven bag products with a quality control in its tenacity. The initial phase of this research is a literature review on the concept of green manufacturing, woven bag quality, compositions of plastic wastes and woven bag manufacturing proses. Furthermore, it is followed by a data measurement in a form of tenacity test using a thread test gauge (tenacity). There are two types of the condition in the manufacturing process of woven bag production compared by increasing the temperature as much as 10°C in all the extraction machines. The measurement result shows that the average tensile strength in the production process of the woven bag made from the wastes of mineral water plastic cups with 10% composition and extraction temperature for the first condition is 3.38 g per 1 denier and the second condition is 4.76 g per 1 denier. The result of second condition manufacturing (increasing the extraction temperature by 10°C) after comparing it with the quality required by Standard National Indonesia (SNI) as much as 4 to 6 g per 1 denier is considered good quality. Therefore, through the concept of green manufacturing, the utilization of plastic wastes might provide a substitution to the part of plastic core raw material in the woven bag production. This research is designed to be the beginning of innovation to acquire raw materials for the woven bag, furthermore, the optimization toward the machine setting and innovation on plastic wastes raw materials become the foundation in increasing the tenacity.
