Opis:
The article deals with the problem of poetry translation and a serious difficulty to build up the same point of view in Russian translations of a polyphonic poem “A Little Girl Tugs at the Tablecloth” by Wisława Szymborska. The main aim was to present how problematic it is to save some compositional concepts which have an impact on a sense of humour which is present in Szymborska’s poem. A contrastive analysis of the original text and its translations into Russian shows that despite many similarities between Polish and Russian some grammatical structures are really difficult to express in the target language. As a result, two different points of view are not as much visible in every translation. Psychological perspective and research concerning language acquisition are used to describe characteristic features of child and adult language, and to identify some specific traits in the original text and its translation which serve to create an impression that in some parts of the poem the reader may hear different voices belonging to a child and an adult. Applying verbs and nouns in particular parts of the poem to show more active or passive viewpoint or using metaphors and diminutive nouns to contrast child’s curiosity and creativity with adult’s knowledge and experience are some of linguistic challenges for a translator. The conducted analysis shows how differently three Russian translators tried to express humour and different perspectives which are important for the poem’s reception in the target language.

Since the publication of "Świat nieprzedstawiony” by J. A. Kornhauser and A. Zagajewski in 1974, its name started to be considered in the Polish language as a synonym of manipulation of news, messages in order to achieve the goal assumptioned by the sender. This method was mastered to perfection by the Catholic newspaper “Nasz Dziennik”, which is a part of the Polish Conglomerate of Redemptorists. Journalists often use the element of fear. It happens that only in one edition there are articles with titles such as “There was no money or good will”, "Ossolineum on the brink of bankruptcy”, "Gas – unsolved problem still”, "People’s veto to Minister Hall”, "Too much coal formation”, “Rostowski will explain himself”, “Restore the right balance”, “School is not a square for elections”, “Mines and plants at the stalemate”, “We won’t give the schools back”, “Someone neglected his duties”, “Researches on human embryos don’t make any sense” or “Pyongyang ignored the ban”. The main topics which are presented as attacks or misfortunes are: attacks of the civil authorities on the Church, the loss of Polish culture, Christianity, the decline of democracy in Poland, Polish enemies grow stronger and obviously Smolensk Distaster. It is difficult to determine how great impact on readers was caused by years of frightening them. Additionally, “Nasz Dziennik” has never published its editions as well as never signed any suitable commitments, which makes it hard to honestly examine the issue of scaring readers. Therefore, the only way to investigate the effectiveness of this medium is to observe how politicians strive for its support.

It is argued that Swinburne should stress the functional unity of soul and body under most healthy conditions. Too often, critics of substance dualism charge dualists with promoting a problematic bifurcation between soul and body. Swinburne’s work is defended against objections from Thomas Nagel. It is argued that Swinburne’s appeal to the first-person point of view is sound.

Opis:
The thesis triggers reflections on multidimensionality of translation and its psychological and socio-cultural aspects. Owing to the fact that the very process of translation constantly undergoes various transformations, the field and scope of translation research, which for the past half a century has continued to build a new academic discipline, alters, as well. The goal of this study is to sketch the scene of this research with the translator as the main agent, according to Kapuściński; and also to present how in translation we cross the boundary of comprehension and overcome limitations of language, text and context. The article also presents how the Translation Studies crosses the borders of its scope and adapts to the civilisation and professional changes. The article demonstrates how through a sociological perspective we are able to see that translation, being an intercultural mediation affects the micro- and macro-landscapes of human communication in the context of community interpreting. Hence, translation is a peculiar way of understanding other that your own points of view, broadening the cognitive horizon, deepening the awareness of culture and communication – it is the process of crossing intellectual and socio-cultural boundaries.

Opis:
Literary versions of the legend of Tristan and Isolde are suitable especially for an analysis of the issues connected with the point of view, particularly if it is understood in the literal, visual meaning, which is here closely associated with the narratological meaning. Lovers are constantly hiding, being followed, then found in the farthest recesses and exposed to gaze of the others, hostile or sympathetic. These gazes decide about their fate; a gaze is therefore an instrument of power, control, and judgment. In the first place, though, a gaze is the instrument of understanding and interpretation, which in many scenes are both shown as complex, problematic and non-obvious. Therefore, the opposition between favorable and hostile gazes is not always so strong: especially the gaze of King Mark, torn between the contradictory feelings for his wife and nephew, is characterized by ambivalence. This ambivalence can also be discerned in the changeable attitudes of some characters, hesitations of narrators and in numerous variants of particular versions of the legend.

The cultural-linguistic view of mountains in the poetry of Jerzy Harasymowicz and other creators (exemplified by the "Dom o Zielonych Progach" songs made by bands)

Opis:
The article presents the cultural-linguistic view of mountains inscribed into Jerzy Harasymowiczs and other poems of not so well-known poets worshipping the landscape of The Beskidy and Bieszczady mountains. My article tries to approach topics connected with the mountains and inscribe them into the context of popular culture. Harasymowiczs poems receive a kind of "second life" thanks to music arrangements elaborated by bands taking part in a word-musical project "W górach jest wszystko, co kocham..."/ "In the mountains there is everything I love..."/. Ethnolin- guistic methodology constitutes the basis of my analysis. The linguistic view of mountain nature in the considered poems is accomplished in two ways. The first one is connected with the look of the mountains (reconstructed by a system of facets) whereas the second one focuses on two points of reference - the mountains and man and the relationship between them. The shape of conceptualization and valuation is determined by the point of view and the perspective that the "ego" has taken. The presence of a human being in the mountains extends the semantic and connotation held connected with the word "mountain" to the issues associated with metaphysical, sacral and emotional spheres as well as to cultural elements.

The aim of this paper is to bring a set of specific semantic features which profile both a pupil and a pupil’s perception of a teacher. This issue is manifested at several levels and in various aspects of the concept of SEEING in Slovak linguistic world view. The study seeks to examine this subject in view of the statements collected in the questionnaire survey conducted on 10-14‑year‑old high school students. Therefore, the author focuses on the adolescent pupil, his or her perception of the school environment, and the selection of perceived object properties.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to discuss the ethnolinguistic approach to stereotypes research proposed by Jerzy Bartmiński as compared to other cognitive theories and to analyse the stereotypes about Poland, and the Poles in the German worldview in the 19th century. The ethnolinguistic analysis focuses mainly on the reconstruction of the meaning of the stereotypes about Poland, and the Poles as well as on the determining their most typical profiles, and on the description of the change in these stereotypes throughout the 19th century. The material of the analysis consists of idiomatic expressions and metaphors taken from lexicographical resources and from DWDS Corpus (Textarchiv 1800–1900).

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to analyse how spatial experience is reformulated into the experience of the mental ‘horizon’, which reveals the process of conceptualization of point de vue (point of view). The review of French dictionaries and discourses from the early 19th century shows the ambiguity and semantic haziness of the term point de vue. It also shows the evolution of the metaphorical use of the term: from spatial experience (the sensory perception of space and location) to a cognitive category (the mental processing). The point de vue becomes in this way a heuristic element introducing an ‘intellectual view’.
