Opis:: The primary objective of this paper is to examine the intricacies surrounding power legitimacy, identifying its multifaceted aspects in various categories. The authors discuss key factors necessary to determine power’s legitimacy and meticulously elaborate on the pertinent dimensions encompassing it. The article focuses on the factors that threaten the maintenance of unchallenged power, specifically the spectre of illegitimacy, and those that reinforce its consolidation. By concentrating exclusively on two key pillars – dimensions and categories – the article aims to establish a theoretical framework for investigating the legitimisation of political authority. This endeavour is crucial in comprehending the intricate interplay between society and power. It also has a clear research objective, i.e. to identify the specific area, scope, and pivotal junctures in the legitimisation process where dimensions and categories exert their most profound and immediate impact. Consequently, the reader gains a thorough understanding of the complex and diverse processes involved in legitimisation, encompassing legal, political, and societal dynamics.

Tytuł:: Environmental activism in Ukraine : everyday concerns as reasons for civic mobilization

Opis:: Based on the results of a representative survey and 30 semi-structured interviews with environmental CSO leaders, we argue that citizens in Ukraine are more likely to participate in public mobilization efforts when they relate to unmet day-to-day problems such as environmental protection. Despite the relatively weak professionalization of many environmental organizations and weak citizen involvement, environmental activism has been strengthened in recent decades by growing awareness of its importance and potential to bring desirable changes, especially locally. This problem-based research asks how civic potential to address everyday problems by citizens themselves and the evolving political opportunity structure including the new civil society development strategy and decentralization reform impact environmental activism and the condition of civil society in Ukraine. Our findings demonstrate that environmental and animal protection have a particularly strong impact on civic activism, which has several important public and social functions from service providing and raising awareness to advocacy. Yet this activism to be sustained requires supportive and collaborative relationship between civil society actors and the state.

Opis:: The present study was conducted as part of a larger study that aimed to compare moral judgment competence and moral preferences among Pakistani students of public and private sector educational institutes and religious institutes and also to measure the pattern of development of moral judgment competence of students within these institutes. The validation study completed in two phases, during the 1st phase data were collected from the students of grade 8 to 16 from public sector schools and colleges of Rawalpindi city. Very low mean c-score was observed (M = 13.60, SD = 9.05), the test came out to be valid on preference hierarchy criterion but its validity on the cognitive-affective parallelism and Quasi- simplex structure criteria could not be established due to low c-scores of the sample. In the second phase an additional sample from one private sector and two public sector universities was collected. The analysis of the combined sample (N = 246) showed no significant improvement of c-scores (M = 13.94, SD = 9.53). The test meets well the preference hierarchy criterion but on the other two criteria results remain inconclusive due to low variance in the sample. The low c-scores are explained on the basis of three assumptions; (1) poor quality of education, (2) dogmatic religiosity, and (3) weak and instable political structure of Pakistani society.

Opis:: In article, author pay attention to the potential and scope of the impact of new forms of communication on the form and content of theoretical research. In principle, such an effect can be seen in two related, but different dimensions of analysis. In the first place it concerns the scope of the political theory, which is enriched with new areas and issues revealing previously unknown or not perceived problems, phenomena and processes that guide the interests of contemporary researchers. On the other hand, global mass communication techniques significantly shape, and thus change the existing forms of theoretical discourse and the structure of the theory itself. These changes in the perspective f plurality and decentralization of theoretical discourse subjects, as well as the emergence of new research areas which aspire to the status of scientific discipline, gain innovative importance especially from the point of view of the attempts to achieve meta-synthetic accumulation of social knowledge.

Opis:: The relationships between social movement challenges and political outcomes remain strongly underresearched in the field of social movements. Here, we use the labels “social” and “political” in a broad sense to comprise many types of challenges and many types of outcomes, such as economic and social outcomes for specific movements as well as general policy outcomes. Four theories are crucial for understanding successful mobilization of social movements: relative deprivation, resource mobilization, framing, and the theoretical figure of the opening political opportunity structure. Political outcomes, at least in democratic political systems, are usually the result of a parallelogram of different claims and means of influencing outcomes, in short, of compromises. Here, we list various forms of outcomes, from successful acceptance of movement demands to part-time successes or entire failures, and also the various strategies incumbents have in dealing with social movement challenges. Researchers usually have focused on the individual and structural conditions of the emergence of social movements but less so on the conditions of processing social movement demands and the outcomes for movements themselves, for the electorate and for policy changes. Consequently, there is little research available that would meet the requirements of an adequate research design in view of the numerous factors spelled out here as a theoretical control list. The idea of a response hierarchy of incumbents is suggested as a sort of a dispositional concept for further, more consolidated, research in this area. Also the notion of cycles of various sorts has to be kept in mind in order to avoid misjudging of both, the persistence of social movements over time, and their eventual successes and failures.

Opis:: Summary Image of Jarosław Kaczyński in Political Discours of Polish Journalism (on the material of opinion-based weeklies) In the article the author introduces the semantic structure of the positive and negative images of one of the most popular Polish politicians of last decades – Jarosław Kaczyński, on the basis of political narration of two competitive weeklies – „Newsweek Polska” and „Sieci”. Under this approach the image is defined as a complex semantic construction consisting of at least few semantic representations concentrated around labels (basic nominatios). Both weeklies present different images of the politician, using various linguistic and textual means.
Wizerunek Jarosława Kaczyńskiego w dyskursie politycznym polskiej publicystyki (na materiale tygodników opinii) W artykule została przedstawiona semantyczna struktura pozytywnego i negatywnego wizerunku jednego z najbardziej popularnych polskich polityków ostatnich kilkunastu lat – Jarosława Kaczyńskiego, na materiale narracji politycznych dwóch konkurujących ze sobą tygodników opinii - „Newsweek Polska” i „Sieci”. Wizerunek w tym ujęciu jawi się jako złożony konstrukt semantyczny, składający się z co najmniej kilku prezentacji semantycznych, skoncentrowanych wokół tzw. etykiet (bazowych nominacji). Badane tygodniki przedstawiają dwa odmienne wizerunki J. Kaczyńskiego, stosując różnorodne środki lingwistyczne i tekstowe.

Opis:: Метою даної публікації є аналіз історичних, релігійних та соціокультурних передумов місця і ролі шиїтського духовенства у політичному процесі та суспільних змінах в Ірані у новітню добу. Розкрито основні особливості зв’язку шиїтської доктрини та політики. Автор досліджує участь шиїтського духовенства у процесі розбудови іранської політичної моделі. Показано, що сучасна політична система Ірану характеризується поєднанням ісламських принципів з елементами демократії: релігія визначає всі сфери життя – політику, економіку, культуру, духовенство здійснює контроль над світськими структурами влади, проте, всі органи влади виборні. Особливу увагу приділено питанню еволюції сучасних політичних інститутів Ірану та процесу трансформації поглядів представників правлячого релігійного істеблішменту Ісламської Республіки Іран в контексті внутрішньополітичних змін і зовнішніх викликів. Розглядаються можливості збереження ісламського правління в умовах подальшої модернізації суспільства.
The purpose of this publication is to analyze the historical, religious and socio-cultural background of the Shiite clergy place and role in the political process and the social changes in Iran in recent times. The main features of the connection between the Shiite doctrine and politics arerevealed. The author investigates the participation of the Shiite clergy in the process of building the Iranian political model. It is shown that the modern political system of Iran is characterized by the combination of Islamic principles with elements of democracy: the religion determines all spheres of life – politics, economy, culture, the clergy monitors the secular structures of power, but all the authorities are elected.Special attention is paid to the evolution of the Iranian modern political institutions and the process of representatives views transformation in the field of the ruling religious establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the context of internal political changes and external challenges. The possibilities of preserving Islamic rule in the conditions of further modernization of society are considered.

Opis:: The aim of the authors is to describe the political knowledge of ordinary Poles, including the structure of their knowledge about politics and ways of thinking about it. The empirical material analyzed here comes from in-depth interviews conducted with interviewers differing by age, level of education, and degree of interest in matters connected with politics and public life. As a theoretical framework, the authors use Shawn W. Rosenberg’s concept. The authors’ analyses serve to show Poles’ process of thinking about politics; their main lines of argumentation and justification of appraisals, opinions, and views; and their most important sources of information. Due, among other things, to the growth in easy access to sources of information, it would appear above all that the ability to select information has greatly increased in importance, and the striking quality of Poles’ political knowledge is its fragmentation, ephemerality, emotionality, and low degree of systematicity.

Comparative analysis of election slogans related to the last parliamentary elections in Poland and Russia

Opis:: The following thesis concerns the analysis of election slogans related to the last parliamentary elections in Poland and Russia. 50 entries were analyzed, including 25 Polish and 25 Russian. On the basis of three types of classification, election slogans were assigned to appropriate groups. The analysis led to conclusions about the similarities and differences in the formation of electoral slogans in Poland and Russia.
Praca dotyczy analizy sloganów wyborczych związanych z ostatnimi wyborami parlamentarnymi w Polsce i Rosji. Poddanych analizie zostało 50 haseł, w tym 25 polskich i 25 rosyjskich. Na podstawie trzech typów klasyfikacji slogany wyborcze zostały przyporządkowane do odpowiednich grup. Analiza doprowadziła do wniosków na temat podobieństw i różnic w tworzeniu sloganów wyborczych w Polsce i w Rosji.
