Opis:: The paper elaborates on the concept of the didactics of immanence. Relying on the discussion contained in a text entitled “Polityczność dydaktyki” (“Politicisation of Didactics”), it differentiates between two types of didactics, one related to transcendence and the other to immanence. Using the theoretical accomplishments of Deleuze and Lewis, the author creates a plan to build an educational machine of war.

Opis:: Arguments about history (as like as politics) is certainly not newfangled or unexpected. The competing visions of the past (winners and losers) are not, however, just a dispute over what and how it happened. On the contrary, it is not diffi cult to see that they infl uence not only upon the domination of the “piloted” vision of the past, but also on a particular social/political order. Th erefore in this article I try to show some risk behind the mythologization and politicization of the historical discourse.

Tytuł:: Erasing Icons: De-Stalinization and the Polish Opposition

Opis:: This project examines currents in Polish governance and society from approximately 1956 to 1981. It emphasizes the themes of de-Stalinization, politicization, and non-violence as tools for analyzing the period and answering to the question: “to what extent did 1980 and the consolidation of the Solidarity movement represent a completion of the de-Stalinization project begun in 1956?” The goal is to provide a more complete understanding of an already researched period of history, and to explain the true origins of Solidarity as a political movement in Poland. Using mainly secondary source material, this translates into a new interpretation or an analytical critique of established currents in the scholarly discourse about Solidarity, KOR, and Polish opposition in the late-1970’s.

Tytuł:: Politicization of the Jewish and Muslim minorities in Poland

Opis:: With Poland’s political transformation after 1989, religious minorities including Jews and Muslims gained more autonomy and support from the state authorities. At the same time, the liberal democracy principles of religious equality and the state’s neutrality have still not been fully implemented. The paper focuses on this problematic situation, using the concept of politicization to portray the situation of the Jews and Muslims in contemporary Poland, and their relations with the Polish state. It presents four instances of politicization of religious minorities (specifically, Muslims and/or Jews). The research is based on public surveys, interviews with members of the Jewish and Muslim communities, legal documents, and NGO reports. According to the hypothesis of the paper, Muslims and Jews are significantly politicized in the Polish public discourse, and both communities play significant roles in shaping the political identity of the Polish polity. Their roles differ in character due to historical factors and the contemporary international context.

Opis:: In this paper, I assume that in modern society under the conditions of democratization at least two fundamental social processes are taking place. Te processes of democratization bring about the civil society empowerment, which result in society becoming increasingly diverse. At the same time, from the point of view of the dominant part of society, the increase of societal diversity causes the loss of indispensable cohesion and communital character of society. Tis results in rising confict between diversity and community, confict that at least over time becomes politicized and need to be solved.In my view, the way to solve this contradiction lies in constructing the nationally heterogeneous civil state and pluralistic society

Tytuł:: Between Europe and the nation : Polish representation in the European Parliament

Opis:: Relations between Poland and the EU has been one of the key issues of political bargaining since 2015, leading to its significant politicization. Views on European integration became crucial between 2015 and 2023, during the rule of the Euro-sceptic Law and Justice Party and its right-wing coalition United Right, marked by multidimensional conflicts with the EU and its institutions, specifically over the rule of law in Poland. However, this Euro-sceptic government was ruling in a country where European integration was consistently highly supported by society. This chapter provides an overview of Polish representation in the European Parliament (EP). It discusses the place and main agenda of the Polish representation from its entry to the EP back in 2004 to 2023 and how its participation in the EP has contributed to (re)shaping the EP’s discourses on European integration. We first present the electoral patterns in the elections between 2004 and 2019 using the idea of the second-ordered elections. Despite the initial lack of interest of the general public, the European elections became an important element of the democratic landscape in Poland. Second, we present how Polish members of the European Parliament (MEPs) fit into European party groups and how they use their ideological orientations, national party interests, and competition in the domestic context to collaborate at the European level. The final part of the chapter reflects on how Polish MEPs have shaped discourses on European integration in the EP.

Tytuł:: We, the receptors : Planning and the politicization of local opposition to fracking in Britain

Opis:: The British government used to herald shale gas as a bridge fuel to a zero-carbon economy, trying (and ultimately, failing) to incorporate this hydrocarbon into a punctuated energy transition that is still under way in the country. On the one hand, planning translated central political decisions into local priorities, but on the other hand, it politicized public opposition to fracking. Although, there have been considerable criticisms of the planning process for fracking in Great Britain, we still lack a grounded understanding of how planning influenced the wider dynamics of public engagement with shale gas development. Drawing on ethnographic and participatory research across three locations in northern England, I explore how the planning process was experienced by the public and how its local participants were impacted by it. The ways in which planning dealt with evidence, public perception and democratic legitimacy suggested that planning was reinforcing the governmental pro-fracking policies while simultaneously undermining its own legitimacy, as questions about validity, impartiality and democracy were being raised. Rather than merely a technocratic arena for adjudicating between private and public interests, planning had a transformative effect on local participants and served as an important moment for mobilizing more politicized forms of public opposition against fracking, which undermined the energy-transition narratives touted by the government. I use anthropological theorizations of ritual to explain the concrete local dynamics that led to this unintended effect. This case study suggests that centrally orchestrated energy transitions may fail when they are enacted through local processes that foster experiences of injustice and lack of local control among the opposing publics.

Tytuł:: The process of creating civil service in Poland in the perspective of the new institutionalism

Opis:: The civil service is an important element of the public administration system and has a major impact on the state's manner of functioning. The civil service in Poland was created with the intention to ensure that the public administration performed its duties in a Professional and impartial manner, unhindered by political interests. The aim of this artide is to analyse the process of creating the civil service in Poland after 1989, and to show how the division between the political and administrative spheres was formed from the beginning of the transformation and under the governments of succeeding political groups, and the extent to which the actual relations between politics and public administration reflect the formal regulations contained in successive civil service acts. The article concentrates in particular on personnel policy with regard to senior civil service positions, because these appointments are connected with assuming control of decision-making processes and human resources policy in administrative offices. Various complementary qualitative and quantitative methods were used in the research. Multi-dimentional analysis of the data leads to the condusion that political parties in Poland strive to limit the autonomy of the government administration and to subordinate it to their interests. The legislation in the area of civil seryice has been largely subjugated to the political interest of the moment, and not to the long-term interest of the state. The use of the neo-institutional perspective allowed to identify the reasons behind the adoption of specific legal measures and to show their actual effects.

Opis:: This article is devoted to the school reform of December 2016. The author discusses its appropriateness, the way it is introduced, and the social climate that accompanies it. This reform re-introduces the state from before 1998, i.e. an 8-year-long primary school and eliminates the junior school. The author raises a question about the justification for the reform, assuming that it does not take into account the results of the study on the effects of the 1999 reform, but may be politically-motivated. Another thesis concerns the repetition of the application errors of the previous reform as well as the formal way of introducing changes into the school system, especially the school network. The author points to a great social resistance against the reform, especially the way it is conducted and predicts that due to the hasty implementation of the reform and application errors, its effects may be half-hearted.
