Opis:: Preliminary valorisaion of the Major Groudwater Basins, including the assesment of groundwater useful properties, as well as necessity and order of protective measures (Paczyński, 2003) is a research project undertaken by Polish Geological Institute at the request of the Minister of Environment. The PGI performed an assessment of the MGBs taking into account a wide range of aspects and with use of various documentations, results of studies, publications, archival and cartographic data. The two years hydrogeological research was cartographically summarized in the Map of Preliminary Valorisation of the Major Groundwater Basins in 1 : 500,000 scale, which is another step in documenting the Major Groundwater Basins. The valorisation revealed that most of the documented MGBs urgently require establishing protective zones and that there is an pressing necessity of implementing and designating “Strategic Groundwater Basins”.

Opis:: The dynamics of hydrochemical parameters of surface waters from the upper, middle and lower reaches of the river was analyzed. On the basis of the analysis of temporal and spatial monitoring data, a comprehensive assessment of the environmental status of the Inhulets river (Ukraine) waters by hydrochemical indicators was carried out. The study performed a comparative analysis of the river water quality assessment using different methods: an integrated assessment based on the calculation of water pollution indexes, pollution rate. A result of the evaluation of water quality in certain classes: in terms of ammonium ions and BOD5 – III quality class, the water is slightly polluted; phosphate content – V quality class, water is very low in the bottom; according to the content of suspended solids, in phosphates and BOD5 – III class of water quality, water is polluted; by a concentration of chlorides – V class of quality, degree of purity – very dirty; the value of suspended solids and chlorides – III class; in terms of the sulfate content – IV class. In general, the very excessive concentration of substances in the middle course remains stable, the environmental state is poor (quality class IV).

Opornośc i elastycznośc zespołów mikroorganizmów gleb zanieczyszczonych metalami na arsen i zasolenie

Opis:: Mikroorganizmy glebowe pełniące w ekosystemach lądowych kluczowe funkcje dla zachowania stabilności ekosystemu narażone są na ciągłe dostawy zanieczyszczeń spowodowanych wzrastającą antropopresją. Dla oszacowania oporności i elastyczności zespołów mikroorganizmów glebowych badano w laboratoryjnym doświadczeniu wpływ dodatkowych czynników stresogennych tj. arsenu (As) i soli (NaCl) na długotrwale zanieczyszczone metalami gleby leśne oraz gleby czyste. Do tego celu wykonano analizy sprawdzające funkcjonalność zespołu poprzez zbadanie tempa respiracji gleby oraz strukturę zespołu metodą analizy kwasów tłuszczowych (PLFA). Oporność oszacowano dzięki pomiarom wykonanym jeden dzień po zastosowaniu dodatkowych czynników stresogennych, a elastyczność zmierzono po 60 dniach od dodania zanieczyszczeń. Dodatkowe czynniki stresogenne wywołały negatywną reakcję mikroorganizmów obniżając tempo respiracji bazowej. Zależność oporności zespołów mikroorganizmów glebowych z toksycznością gleby stwierdzono tylko w przypadku zabiegu As. Większą elastycznością funkcjonalną zarówno na arsen jak i na sól charakteryzowały się mikroorganizmy z gleb długotrwale narażonych na zanieczyszczenia metalami. Struktura zespołu mikroorganizmów glebowych zmieniła się pod wpływem dodanych czynników stresogennych, jednak odpowiedź dla gleb zanieczyszczonych i czystych była na podobnym poziomie. Mikroorganizmy nie zdołały powrócić do stanu stabilnego po 60 dniach eksperymentu.
Soil microorganisms which act in key role for maintaining terrestrial ecosystems stability but nowadays they are exposed for continuous supply of pollution caused by growing anthropopressure. To evaluate resistance and resilience of soil microbial community effect of additional stress such as arsenic (As) and salt (NaCl) laboratory treatment on long termed metal polluted forest soils and clear soils, was measured. For this purpose soil respiration rate was measured for checking stability of soil microbial function and PLFA analyses were conducted for estimation changes in the soil microbial structure. Resistance was estimated through measurement one day after usage of additional stress factors, resilience has been measured after 60 days after adding contamination. Additional stress factors induced negative reaction of microorganisms by lowering base respiration rate. The dependence of the resistance of soil microorganisms communities and soil toxicity has been observed only in the As treatment. Higher resilience to arsenic and salt pollution has been noticed in microorganisms from soils exposed for long term metal pollution. Structure of group of soil microorganisms has changed under influence of additional contamination, however response for polluted and clear soils has been on equal level. Microorganisms did not manage to recover to stable condition after 60 days of experiment.

Opis:: The discovery of the first antibiotic has become one of the most important medical advances. Since this time, a pe- riod of intensive research into antimicrobial substances has be- gun, which are also used in veterinary medicine and agricultural production. In animal production, antibiotics have therapeutic, as well as prophylactic and metaphylactic applications aimed at preventing bacterial diseases. They were also used as growth stimulants, which positively influenced, among others, for weight gain and more efficient use of feed. This form of antibiotic use in animal production was legally banned in 2006 in all European Union countries. In the cultivation of plants, antibiotics are also used to combat plant pathogens. The use of antibiotic agents has many consequences, both positive and negative. The most impor- tant risk of antibiotics overusing is the spread of antibiotic resist- ant bacteria. Another effect is environmental pollution and the contamination of agricultural products. Due to these factors, the use of antibiotics in agriculture is regulated by appropriate legal regulations.

Opis:: This paper synthetically describes results of research conducted in Gdańsk in 2009–2014. The chemical composition of groundwater varies between aquifers. Intermoraine, Miocene and Oligocene aquifers conduct freshwater with a mineralisation of below 600 mg/dm³. These waters preserve natural chemical composition and are characterized by first- and second-class quality. The groundwater of the Cretaceous formation are low-mineralised and represent mainly the HCO³-Na type and, to a smaller extent, to the HCO³-Ca type. High concentrations of fluoride ion are also a specific feature of these waters, reaching even 2 mg/dm³ in some places. The groundwater composition of the Pleistocene-Holocene aquifer is often altered due to the impact of anthropogenic factors. The performed study has enabled identification of zones of past groundwater pollution. The work was focused on determining the type, extent, concentration and the rate of transport of contaminants. Two zones of polluted water have been identified with different specific substances. Based on the study, activities aimed at reducing the risks and improving an appropriate water management have been undertaken, particularly with regard to the endangered groundwater intakes.

Opis:: The paper has analyzed the presence of antibiotics in crude (hospital, medicine production and municipal) waste water, treated waste water, surface water and drinking water across the world. The concentrations of antibiotics in medicine production waste water reached a level of up to 900 µ/dm3; in hospital waste water, up to 124 µ/dm3; and in municipal waste water, up to 64 µ/dm3. Antibiotic concentrations in treated waste water approached 260 ng/dm3. The presence of antibiotics in surface water has also been covered. The most often identified medicines were: Ciprofloxacin, Erythromycin, Norfloxacin, Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim. The maximum antibiotic concentrations in surface water are as high as up to 2 µg/dm3. In the majority of cases, identified antibiotics occurred in concentrations from several to several dozen ng/dm3, and less often in several hundred ng/dm3. The presence of antibiotics in drinking water, similarly as for waste water, was identified worldwide, e.g. in China, USA, Germany, Canada, France. Very high antibiotic concentrations were noted in Guangzhou, China, which reached a level of up to 679.7 ng/dm3 (Ciprofloxacin), but also in the USA (Triclosan) – 734 ng/dm3). In the majority of instances, antibiotics are present in water in much lower concentrations. The consequence of environmental contamination with antibiotics is the drug resistance of many bacterial strains with the resultant deaths of 25 000 people in the European Union and 700 000 people across the globe. The other effects of the presence of antibiotics in the natural environment are not fully understood yet. For example, carcinogenic, teratogenic or mutagenic effects are attributed to these contaminants.
W pracy przeanalizowano obecność antybiotyków w ściekach surowych (szpitalnych, z produkcji leków, komunalnych), oczyszczonych, wodach powierzchniowych i wodzie pitnej na świecie. Stężenia antybiotyków analizowane w ściekach z produkcji leków dochodziły do 900 µ/dm3, w ściekach szpitalnych do 124 µ/dm3 i komunalnych do 64 µ/dm3. Stężenia antybiotyków w ściekach oczyszczonych dochodziły do 260 ng/dm3. Przedstawiono również obecność antybiotyków w wodach powierzchniowych. Najczęściej identyfikowanymi lekami były: ciprofloxacin, erytromycyna, norfloxacin, sulfamethoxazole i trimethoprim. Maksymalne stężenia antybiotyków w wodach powierzchniowych dochodzą nawet do 2 µg/dm3. W większości przypadkach identyfikowane antybiotyki występowały w ilości od kilku do kilkudziesięciu ng/dm3, rzadziej w ilości kilkuset ng/dm3. Obecność antybiotyków w wodzie pitnej jest identyfikowana, podobnie jak w przypadku ścieków na całym świecie np. w Chinach, USA, Niemczech, Kanadzie, Francji. Odnotowano bardzo wysokie stężenia antybiotyków Chinach w Guangzhou dochodzące do 679,7 ng/dm3 (ciprofloxacin ), ale również w USA (triclosan – 734 ng/dm3). W większości przypadków antybiotyki w wodach są w znacznie niższych stężeniach. Konsekwencją zanieczyszczenia środowiska antybiotykami jest lekooporność wielu szczepów bakterii i w konsekwencji coroczna śmierć 25 000 osób w Unii Europejskiej i około 700000 na całej kuli ziemskiej. Nie do końca poznane są inne skutki obecności antybiotyków w środowisku. Przypisuje się temu zanieczyszczeniu właściwości rakotwórcze, teratogenne lub mutagenne.

Opis:: Celem badań było określenie wpływu zanieczyszczenia elementów roboczych głębosza na wybrane parametry eksploatacyjne agregatu. The aim of tests was to determine the impact of the pollution of working elements of the chisel on selected operating parameters of the unit. The scope of tests encompassed the measurement of selected parameters of the unit with three variants of pollution of working elements of the chisel with plastic ropes. A significant increase of the force of working resistance of the tool and consumption of fuel by the tractor proportionally to the quantity of pollution of working elements of the chisel was identified.

Opis:: W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań wpływu zanieczyszczenia gruntu olejem napędowym na zmiany wartości głównego parametru charakteryzującego wytrzymałość na ścinanie gruntu sypkiego - efektywnego kąta tarcia wewnętrznego (psi'), a w efekcie nośności gruntu stanowiącego podłoże budowlane. Badaniom poddano piaski średnie pochodzące z występujących na obszarze Krakowa czwartorzędowych osadów rzecznych tarasu wysokiego. Na podstawie zebranych wyników wyprowadzono zależność funkcyjną między efektywnym kątem tarcia wewnętrznego, a zawartością oleju napędowego w gruntach piaszczystych oraz przedstawiono zmiany oporu podłoża piaszczystego pod fundamentem bezpośrednim w wyniku zanieczyszczenia olejem napędowym.
The paper presents the results of research made on the influence of diesel-oil soil contamination on one of the main soil shear resistance parameters - an effective angle of internal friction (psi') - and, as a result, on subsoil bearing capacity. Laboratory studies have been performed on the fluvial sand samples, drawn from the quaternary sediments of higher terrace of Wisła valley in the Kraków area. The data that have been gathered allowed to derive a linear dependence of the effective angle of friction on the oil contamination content in medium sands. The results of calculations of the subsoil resistance caused by the oil contamination have been presented.
