Opis:: The main problem of this article is Benedict XVI resignation from papal office and possible consequences of this issue for Catholic Church as an institution. Article is divided into three parts. The first part reconstructed basic historical facts connected with the resignation of Benedict XVI. On the second part, reconstructed the external interpretation of resignation. The third part described the resignation problem, where interpreter in the context of secularization theory. The article author makes an attempt to find the answer for two questions: (1) how will Benedict XVI’s resignation affect the Church as an institutional model, its tradition and doctrine?; (2) will the abdication of Benedict XVI weaken the papal legitimacy for leadership in the Church?

Opis:: The Holy See, with territorial residence is the Vatican City State, is the only sovereign European entity with diplomatic ties to the Republic of China (ROC), the official name for Taiwan, which presently has fifteen diplomatic allies in total. Holy See - ROC relations were established in 1942. In 1971, when the ROC lost its seat in the UN, the position of the Pontifical representative in Taiwan was downgraded from ambassador to chargé d'affaires, and it has remained so ever after. The Holy See and relations with it are unlike those with other sovereign entities, which are often influenced by geopolitical or commercial considerations. The Apostolic Palace is not interested in receiving foreign aid or signing trade agreements, but in securing religious freedom for the Catholic flock and respecting human rights. This can play in favour of Taiwan when it comes to preserving its formal relations with the Holy See. The People's Republic of China (PRC) demands that the Vatican conforms to the one-China policy by severing its diplomatic ties with Taiwan, as one of the two conditions for normalizing relations with Beijing. The 2018 Provisional Agreement between the Holy See and the People's Republic of China on the Appointment of Bishops marked a turning point in the Sino-Vatican dynamics. Yet, as long as there is no actual religious freedom for the Catholic Church in China, the Holy See remains very reluctant to switch diplomatic allegiance to the PRC. However, the 2018 agreement and the élan of the Papal policy towards China perhaps indicate that, for the Chair of St. Peter, diplomatic relations with Beijing may be 'well worth a mass'.

Sexuality in the teaching of popes after the Second Vatican Council. Marital sex and contraception

Opis:: W niniejszej pracy zostanie przedstawione oficjalne stanowisko Kościoła katolickiego na temat seksualności człowieka. Prezentowane stanowisko będzie reprezentowane przez papieży w II połowie XX wieku, po Soborze watykańskim II. Istotnym kontekstem do jakiego odnosi się Kościół jest ówczesna kultura, specyficzna dla XX wieku, czyli między innymi popkultura, szybki rozwój nauki oraz zjawisko globalizacji. Uwzględniono więc w kolejnych rozdziałach tej pracy część z nich wpływających na zwołanie i decyzje Soboru Watykańskiego II. Stanowią one tło pracy i badanego obszaru posoborowej myśli Kościoła nad seksualnością człowieka. Koncepcja ta według wizji Kościoła katolickiego będzie rozumiana jako osąd i zajmowane stanowisko papieży następująco: Pawła VI, Jana Pawła II oraz Benedykta XVI. Każdy z nich wyróżniał się na kartach historii papiestwa: Paweł VI był obarczany winą za liberalizację w Kościele, niemniej jednak zakończył jedyny sobór w XX wieku, najdłuższy pontyfikat należy do Jana Pawła II, był także pierwszym od 455 lat Ojcem Świętym wybranym spoza Włoch, Benedykt XVI przeszedł do historii przez abdykację i jest nazywany papieżem emerytowanym. Wszyscy trzej przeżyli II wojnę światową, chociaż każdy z innej perspektywy. Uwzględnienie sylwetek i zamieszczenie krótkich biografii, służy zaprezentowani zdarzeń jakie mogły mieć wpływ na późniejsze ich nauki; takie jak czas i miejsce w jakich dorastali czy kariera w strukturach Kościoła katolickiego. Na koniec omówiono to zagadnienie na przykładzie aktów seksualnych i przyjętego stanowiska wobec antyoncepcji.
This paper presents the official position of the Catholic Church on human sexuality. The position presented will be represented by popes in the second half of the 20th century, after the Second Vatican Council. An important context to which the Church refers is the culture of that time, specific to the 20th century, i.e. pop culture, the rapid development of science and the phenomenon of globalization. Therefore, in the following chapters of this work, some of them influencing the convocation and decisions of the Second Vatican Council were included. They form the background of the work and the studied area of the post-Conciliar thought of the Church on human sexuality. According to the vision of the Catholic Church, this concept will be understood as the judgment and position of the popes as follows: Paul VI, John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Each of them stood out on the pages of the papacy's history: Paul VI was blamed for liberalization in the Church, nevertheless he ended the only council in the 20th century, the longest pontificate belongs to John Paul II, he was also the first Holy Father elected from outside Italy in 455 years, Benedict XVI went down in history by abdication and is called a retired pope. All three survived World War II, although each from a different perspective. Taking into account silhouettes and posting short biographies is used to present events that could have influenced their later teachings; such as the time and place where they grew up or a career in the structures of the Catholic Church. Finally, this issue is discussed on the example of sexual acts and the position taken on contraception.

Opis:: W niniejszym projekcie badawczym zastosowano technikę monowarstw Langmuira do badania oddziaływania wybranych czynników środowiskowych na fosfolipidy błon bakteryjnych. W badaniach zastosowano kardiolipinę (CL) – dimeryczny fosfolipid specyficzny dla błon bakteryjnych oraz fosfatydyloetanoloaminę (POPE) – główny fosfolipid błon bakteryjnych. Badano wpływ jonów metali ciężkich (Hg2+, Pb2+, Ag+), niskiego (1M HCl) i wysokiego (0,5M NaOH) pH oraz stężenia chlorku sodu na fizykochemiczne właściwości i teksturę monowarstw utworzonych przez CL i POPE na granicy faz woda/powietrze. Okazało się, że ujemnie naładowana głowa polarna kardiolipiny znacznie silniej wiąże jony metali ciężkich niż obojętna głowa polarnej POPE. Struktura monowarstwy kardiolipiny silnie zależy również od siły jonowej roztworu, na którym rozciągnięto monowarstwę. Monowarstwy CL i POPE utworzone na 1M HCl i czystej wodzie różnią się nieznacznie, dużo istotniejszy wpływ na uporządkowanie cząsteczek w warstwie wywiera 0,5M roztwór NaOH. Do wizualizacji tekstur badanych monowarstw zastosowano mikroskopię kąta Brewstera. Technika ta okazała się szczególnie pomocna przy ustalaniu wpływu stężenia NaCl na strukturę monowarstwy kardiolipiny. Przeprowadzone badania dowiodły, że zanieczyszczenie środowiska metalami ciężkimi może mieć negatywny wpływ na funkcjonowanie błon komórkowych bakterii.
Langmuir monolayer technique was applied in this project for the investigation of the influence of selected environmental factors on the phospholipids characteristic for bacterial membranes. Cardiolipin (CL), a dimeric phospholipid typical of bacterial membranes and phosphatydilethanolamine (POPE), the main phospholipid therein were chosen for the research. We investigated the effect of: heavy metals (Hg2+, Pb2+, Ag+), low (1M HCl) and high (0,5M NaOH) pH and the concentration of NaCl on the physicochemical properties and the texture of the monolayers formed by CL and POPE on the air/water interface. It turned out that the negatively charged head-group of cardiolipin binds the heavy metal ions much stronger than the uncharged polar head of POPE. The structure of cardiolipin monolayer depends significantly on the ionic strength of the aqueous subphase, on which the monolayer was spread. The CL and POPE monolayers spread on 1M HCl and pure water behave similarly. On the contrary, the effect of 0,5M NaOH on the molecular packing within the monolayer is much profound. We applied Brewster angle microscopy for the visualization of the texture of the investigated monolayers. This technique turned out to be especially useful in the research of the impact of NaCl concentration on the structure of CL monolayer. Our experiments proved that pollution of the environment with heavy metals can have detrimental effect on the function of bacterial biomembranes.

Opis:: The aim of the article is to analyze the discourse of Pope Francis on the issue of migrations and checking whether it changed after the so‒called ‘migration crisis’ from 2015. The period of time taken into considerations starts from 2014, i.e. one year after Jorge Bergoglio became the Pope, and ends in the current 2018. The analyzed data include annual papal proclamations delivered at ‘International Migrants Day’. Methods applied in the study are content analysis and Berelson’s method.

Opis:: In the twenty-first century in Francis’, Benedict XVI and John Paul II teaching it is obvious that they desire to restore the respect towards the elderly people in family and estimate their role as well as their place in it. Popes want the elderly people to be respected and cared with proper concern. Popes prove that the elderly people are not only the beneficiaries but also the donors in family. Therefore, the elderly people are precious support to the young generations, as they pass the young people wisdom as well as experience of life, the history of the family and the nation, finally, they become the witnesses of faith. According to the aforementioned popes, the respect towards the elderly people, was some kind of determinant of humanism in the past. Undoubtedly, it also should be such now, in order to bear witness the quality of the twenty-first century civilization positively.
W XXI wieku nauczanie papieży Franciszka, Benedykta XVI i Jana Pawła II, ukazując rolę i miejsce osób starszych w rodzinie, przywraca im szacunek. Papieże chcą, by osoby w podeszłym wieku były szanowane i z właściwą uwagą otoczone troską. Papieże udowadniają, że ludzie starsi są nie tylko beneficjentami, lecz także dawcami w rodzinie. Dlatego seniorzy stanowią cenne oparcie dla młodszych pokoleń, ponieważ niosą mądrość i doświadczenie życiowe, historię rodziny i narodu, a także są świadkami wiary. Według wymienionych wyżej papieży, w przeszłości szacunek wobec osób starszych był pewnego rodzaju czynnikiem warunkującym humanizm. Niewątpliwie tak również powinno być i teraz, aby pozytywnie świadczyć o jakości cywilizacji XXI wieku.
