Opis:
Cieślak (1993) and Kohler and College (1988) considered a predictor being an arithmetic mean of a set of k-latest observations in time series, where k was constant. In this paper a modified predictor is presented and its properties are discussed. For each t-th observation the hypothesis that there is no change in the level of the time series is tested. When the hypothesis isn’t rejected the predictor is an arithmetic mean of a set of t-latest observations otherwise the predictor is equal to the value o f the last observation in the time series. The mean square error is used for assessing the error of prediction.

Opis:
The problems of minimax mutual prediction are considered for binomial and multinomial random variables and for sums of limited random variables with unknown distribution. For the loss function being a linear combination of quadratic losses minimax mutual predictors are determined where the parameters of predictors are obtained by numerical solution of some equations.

Opis:
In this paper a new flow control strategy for connection-oriented communication networks is presented. It utilises methods of control theory, in particular the Smith predictor and dead-beat control, to achieve desirable dynamics of the considered network. In contrast to a number of earlier proposals in which the controller command is interpreted as the rate transmission, in our solution it is interpreted as the quantity of data that the controlled node is expected to send. This allows us to model a single virtual connection with non-persistent data source as a time-delay system in which the delay may temporarily exceed its assumed boundary. Favourable properties of the proposed control strategy are formulated as mathematical theorems and thoroughly discussed.

Opis:
In this paper, we present the Academic Results Datasets Predictor (ARDP), for missing academic results datasets, based on chi-squared expected calculation, positional clustering, progressive approximation of relative residuals, and positional averages of the data in a sampled population. Academic results datasets are data originating from inside academic institutions’ results repositories. It is a technique designed specifically for predicting missing academic results. Since the whole essence of data mining is to elicit useful information and gain knowledge-driven insights into datasets, ARDP positions data explorer at this advantageous perspective. ARDP is committed to solve missing academic results dataset problems more quickly over and above what currently obtains. PARD is computed by leveraging on the averages of neighbouring values. The predictor was implemented using Python, and the results show that it is admissible in a minimum of up to 85 percent accurate predictions of the sampled cases. It has been verified that ARDP shows a tendency toward greater precision in providing the best solution to the problems of predictions of missing academic results datasets in universities.

Opis:
Noise mapping is a well-established practice among the European nations, and it has been follow for almost two decades. Recently, as per guidelines of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), India, noise mapping has been made mandatory in the mining expanses. This study is an effort to map the noise levels in nearby areas of mines in the northern Keonjhar district. The motive of this study is to quantify the existing A-weighted time-average sound level (LAeq, T) in the study area to probe its effects on the human dwellings and noise sensitive areas with the probability of future development of the mines, roads, and industrial and commercial zone. The LAeq, T was measured at 39 identified locations, including industrial, commercial, residential, and sensitive zones, 15 open cast mines, 3 major highways, and 3 haulage roads. With the utilisation of Predictor LimA Software and other GIS tools, the worked out data is mapped and noise contours are developed for the visualisation and identification of the extent and distribution of sound levels across the study area. This investigation discloses that the present noise level at 60% of the locations in silence and residential zone exposed to significantly high noise levels surpasses the prescribed limit of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), India. The observed day and night time LAeq, T level of both zones ranged between 43.2–62.2 dB(A) and 30.5–53.4 dB(A), respectively, whereas, the average Ldn values vary between 32.7 and 51.2 dB(A). The extensive mobility of heavy vehicles adjoining the sensitive areas and a nearby plethora of open cast mines is the leading cause of exceeded noise levels. The study divulges that the delicate establishments like schools and hospitals are susceptible to high noise levels throughout the day and night. A correlation between observed and software predicted values gives R2 of 0.605 for Ld, 0.217 for Ln, and 0.524 for Ldn. Finally, the mitigation measure is proposed and demonstrated using a contour map showing a significant reduction in the noise levels by 0–5.3 dB(A).

Selection of new students is based on student potential. Research on the potential of the cognitive abilities and records of Islamic school students’ academic achievement in Indonesia are still very rare. This paper presents empirical data about the predictive ability of a test of scholastic ability for the academic achievement of Islamic school students in Indonesia. This research used a quantitative approach with a survey method that used the Ministry of Religious Affair (MORA)’s Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and Students’ scores on 5 subjects in the first semester. The subjects of this study were 9609 Islamic school students selected using a quota sampling technique that represented Islamic schools in Indonesia. The results of this study indicate that all of the SAT subsets, those are verbal, numerical, analytical and spatial, are significant predictors of academic achievement of Islamic school students in Indonesia. The empirical analytical sub-test is the strongest predictor of Islamic school students’ academic scores. While, the analytical sub-test has very significant correlation with the academic score on Islamic Studies subjects. Meanwhile the verbal sub-test has a very strong relationship with academic achievement in Arabic and English subjects, the numerical sub-test very strongly relates to academic achievement in science and mathematics subjects. Among the four SAT subtests, the spatial sub-test had the lowest correlation with all subjects

Opis:
In the paper a highly efficient algorithm for lossless image coding is described. The algorithm is a predictor blending one, a sample estimate is computed as a weighted sum of estimates given by subpredictors, here 27 ones, hence the name Blend-2. Data compaction performance of Blend-27 is compared to that of numerous other lossless image coding algorithms, including the best currently existing ones. The compared methods are "classical" ones, as well as those based on Artificial Neural Networks. Performance of Blend-27 as a near-lossless coder is also evaluated. Its computational complexity is lower than that of majority of its direct competitors. The new algorithm appears to be currently the most efficient technique for lossless coding of natural images.

The paper is oriented to EEG signal analysis, which is focused to quasi-stationarity hypothesis that the statistical properties of the channel signal fluctuate in time. Robust linear predictor is used for short segments of EEG as low-pass filter and the difference between the raw EEG and filter output was subject of statistical testing. Novelty is in the fluctuation measurement which enables to classify the Alzheimer's disease patients against controls.

Opis:
In this paper we address the problem of efficient control of continuous-review perishable inventory systems. In the considered systems the goods at a distribution center used to fulfill unknown, variable demand deteriorate at a constant rate, and are replenished with delay from a remote supply source. We develop a new supply policy which incorporates the Smith predictor for dead-time compensation. A number of properties of the designed policy is formulated, and strictly proved. In particular, we show that the policy guarantees that the assigned storage space at the distribution center is never exceeded which means that the cost of emergency storage is eliminated. Moreover, we show that with appropriately chosen controller parameters all of the demand imposed at the distribution center is realized from the readily available resources, thus ensuring the maximum service level.

Opis:
Objective: Teaching profession is characterised by an above-average rate of psychosomatic and mental health impairment due to work-related stress. The aim of the study was to identify predictors of mental health in female teachers. Material and Methods: A sample of 630 female teachers (average age 47±7 years) participated in a screening diagnostic inventory. Mental health was surveyed with the General Health Questionnaire GHQ-12. The following parameters were measured: specific work conditions (teacher-specific occupational history), scales of the Effort-Reward-Imbalance (ERI) Questionnaire as well as cardiovascular risk factors, physical complaints (BFB) and personal factors such as inability to recover (FABA), sense of coherence (SOC) and health behaviour. Results: First, mentally fit (MH⁺) and mentally impaired teachers (MH⁻) were differentiated based on the GHQ-12 sum score (MH⁺: < 5; MH⁻: ≥ 5); 18% of the teachers showed evidence of mental impairment. There were no differences concerning work-related and cardiovascular risk factors as well as health behaviour between MH⁺ and MH⁻. Binary logistic regressions identified 4 predictors that showed a significant effect on mental health. The effort-reward-ratio proved to be the most relevant predictor, while physical complaints as well as inability to recover and sense of coherence were identified as advanced predictors (explanation of variance: 23%). Conclusion: Contrary to the expectations, classic work-related factors can hardly contribute to the explanation of mental health. Additionally, cardiovascular risk factors and health behaviour have no relevant influence. However, effort-reward-ratio, physical complaints and personal factors are of considerable influence on mental health in teachers. These relevant predictors should become a part of preventive arrangements for the conservation of teachers' health in the future.
